  • The Hibbing high school made a performance that sounded exactly like the recording. Beleive it, more than this one did.

  • @DavidLeeLewisM yeah we did

  • press 8 ALL TIME and look at the guy with the drums :D

  • lol sorry but 2:03 sounded awful but overall pretty good.

  • Pretty good. Needs better blend - couldn't hear some parts. Some nasal sound.

  • 58 people are deaf

  • Nice job, tenors. Very good for high school.

  • I still Love this version. But Only 1 swaying ! (stop hating me :P ) Looks like the cast of the office singing it.

  • drums dont count :)

  • I wish the video was in better quality because they really did it well:-)

  • to go along with this...my guess people think a capella is without a piano..."Recently in 2011 , it was rearranged by Tin for an eight-part a capella choir with percussion accompaniment."

  • That was surprisingly good

  • good

  • I wish my high school's choir was a quarter this good. Great job guys!

  • im thumbing down because i didn't a translation for this in my program

    jk, it was good

  • @Runna716 ghana

  • ahahahaahahaaha lmao love the obvious accents in the singing. Not bad around the middle but the rest needs some serious work..

  • I was banned wasnt i?

  • 1. Too Slow

    2. Its not a capella.

    3. Learn music

  • @civmaster50 lol, agreed :P

  • @civmaster50 i will step in and defend them...you try and sing this song and remember all the pitches and the words, and if it's slow it is just a tad bit slow, and an a capella version of this song is impossible because it really need drums behind it

  • guys... it's the lords prayer in swahili ( cant spell sry)

  • what is that language ?

  • @fanLOSTforEVER swahili

  • Great job

    Tenor solo !!

  • how did i get here

  • Well Done

  • good facial expression, breath support, and tone quality.

need improvements on dynamics, phrasing and rhythmic accuracy.

  • Props to the girl singing tenor.

  • I have to ask the producers of these songs in america - why dont you let people sway enjoy the music? standing still as most of your colleges do is almost like a slap in the face to the original. Is it cos your parents want this middle class thing ? if so theyre destroying songs as they go. I keep coming back to this song on utube cos i like it and I like the girl who sways.

  • @Kaldhore i agree, and i live in america! to sing a song like Baba Yetu, you must let it flow through you, moving you.

  • @McCRAAAZY Thank you I was getting paranoid I was the only one

  • The Bellarmine Prep Vocal Ensemble Version sounds way better.

  • The singers are shouting way too much, also, not well blended. The tone tends to become sharp and flat throughout the song, not to mention, immature.

  • @SuperbMusic08 You gotta hand it to them, they took on this song, and I think they did a pretty darn good job. I'll admit there are some pitchy parts, but no ones perfect.

  • the wierd drums ruin it imho..better with a keyboard....

  • @StarSwede the song MUST have drums. It's meant to be tribal and to symbolize uniting humanity with even the simplest methods of communication: the drum.

  • Look at the killer 'stache on that guy in the yellow. that thing is majestic.

  • @Letsalldiscover Why he could secretly be a gentleman

  • Very nice. One of my fav songs ever, and you puled it off really well.

  • Again as I review the song after my last comment, probably a year or two after my origninal comment. I see One girl swaying almost sinfully as the rest dont. Nice audio rendition. But basically a almost like trying to a place in an american chart. Its not got the feel of the song as intented when originally sang. Crucify me for those comments if u will but its truth and I still applaud the girl girl who swayed.

  • @Kaldhore how can you say it is no longer song worthy, i believe that by other places in the world being able to sing these songs which may perhaps come from the heart of africa is beautiful. its just another way to show that we are all one in this world. and plus, african music has such a unique sound which i believe should be known around the world.

  • @TysmanV I can See what you are saying and yes in America there is a market for that. Replication of wordly stuff. But maintaining the originality of the the songs is what i think is precious. All we see on u-tube is replications of americanised college student versions - its like xfactor, to be honest. And then people get upset when I tell the truth. Its not original, its not close to the original and 70% of the people in vid cant be bothered - to the other 30% I applaud 10,000%.

  • well done

  • this song is rushed in so many versions, good to see a group that just takes its time, always sounds better.

  • The more and more this song is americanised the less and less it comes from the heart of africa. Im afraid that this song - glorius in its infirmaty is no longer a song worthy.

  • @Kaldhore Don't you think it's inspiring that it made it that far? Perhaps we'll see people in Japan and Russia singing it next. :)

  • i love this song but for some reason i was given the shivers...

  • @tishihara1994 Baba Yetu gives me shivers whenever it reaches a "peak" moment.

  • Great job. Don't care if you didn't get all things right. Swahili must be difficult.

  • I am a high school choral director. A song can be considered "a cappella" as long as there is no PITCHED accompaniment. Percussion doesn't count (unless it is a xylophone or other pitched instrument).

  • @cyndikab actually, you have to tune a drum. that makes it a pitched instrument. drums come in high and low ranges. i do agree with you to an extent that this is a cappella, because there is really nothing to tune to. it's just that drums are actually pitched instruments.

  • Description fail. NOT a capella if there's an accompaniment.

  • /me claps!

  • nice try, tunahitaji not tunahitachi xD otherwise good try!

  • So cool you guys :) I like this alot.

  • Civilization is heaps better at this lol vikings

  • off key a little but spot on..on the Swahili pronunciation.

  • Congratulations was very good.

  • love the song. ive listened to it many times, including my school's chorus. this doesnt sound very good. not enough people

  • Awsome. I wish i could sing.

  • this is the greatest song version of the prayer. Baba yetu means Our Father. the prayer from the bible.

  • o/' Tou-do-dou ;P

  • very poor

  • American accent is a bit marked up but everything else sounds really good :D

  • very very good :D

  • шикарно 5+

  • Ótimo!!!! Bem que aqui no Brazil ,poderiam ter corais assim!!!

    Extraordinário!!!!!

  • My Choir Teacher said this song is to hard! But, we dont think so! I am trying to convinve my teacher to let us sing this song. but, you guys are GREAT!

  • r u in middle school?

  • one of those dudes has a beard so i honestly dont think so

  • if its a capella why is the choir being accompanied on the drums?

  • A Capella technically means no instruments as in the singers do the melody and all music, though outside of catholic churches and in 'tribal' styles like this song, there often can be drum accompaniments and still have it considered a capella... why? im not sure... but good point

anyway, wonderful job singing the piece choir

  • so they have something to sing to, otherwise they'd be off beat

  • well most singers can keep to a beat without accompaniment

  • @Rweeblington drums are considered part of the choirs "body", thus removing them would be removing the structure of the music, and choir. The drums are needed for the song, as they were one of the first ways of communicating, even before spoken word or song. Drums are the structure.

  • @Rweeblington

its still a capella with the drums because drums are considered a non pitch instrument. if it had anything with a pitch were you could play like a scale on it its not a capella

  • @Rweeblington

its still a capella with the drums because drums are considered a non pitch instrument. if it had anything with a pitch were you could play like a scale on it its not a capella

  • @Rweeblington We're making an exception. We can call it "a capella with drums". Or "d capella", if it makes you feel any better.

Also, I like the amount of emphasis they put on the words at 0:56. But it bugs me that they flat out mispronounce the word at 1:09 and again at 3:28. And sometimes they sound like they don't know what the lyrics are in some spots. Aside from that, I thought it was very nice.

  • @Rweeblington drums and percussion are often used in a capella. This just adds some dramatic background to the voices :-) I think it sounds great and can still be called a capella.

  • @Rweeblington This song isn't a capella -.-

  • @emirhasa In the description is says "A Capella Arrangement"

  • @Rweeblington It's writen in the music.

  • @Rweeblington a capella can be accompanies by drums because it doesn't help with pitch

  • @leahremembered That has nothing to do with it. Drums are instruments, and drum sounds, although not drum sounds found in the original Baba yetu, can be made by the mouth like a beat boxer makes. This is not a capella if it has drums in it. A Capella is strictly voices. It's an awesome song, and they did an awesome job, BUT, it's not A Capella.

  • @Rweeblington i do not know. most African a capella pieces have a drum accompaniment. its just the way most African pieces are done, drums are probably for rhythm.

  • @Rweeblington Its that the drums are accompanied by a chorus.

  • A little off key but you all did something most people wouldnt attempt, good job :)

  • I think the lack of studio recording maybe influenced that a bit.

  • Niiiiiice!! I'm trying to get our choir teacher to let us sing this at our next concert. GREAT SONG

  • Nice. I'm impressed you guys took on something in a choir that most wouldn't even regard.

  • wonderfull!

  • beaitifull

    i must cry :'(

  • to whoever said what language this is in... it is actually the Catholic Lord's Prayer sung in Swahili.

  • Bass nice !

  • I got marked down for commenting on this but tbh i like it- my comments hold strong but i like it

  • the second group (the larger one) is a little off-key

  • Allow me to comment on the notion that this is not a cappella. Technically, the term a cappella is applied to vocal music without instrumental accompaniment (including percussion), as in the Church style. However, more modernly, a cappella has been accepted as a term defining vocal music without the accompaniment of pitch sounding instrumentation (not including percussion). So, go with whatever definition pleases you, but don't use this space to complain about it.

  • not in right key and isnt acappela

  • best one

  • This isn't a capella.

  • Baw.

  • Nice one. Good song. Some people mustn't understand that it must be hard to sing in a different lanugage. This song is also irregularly flat.

  • Many faces, many voices, many different sounds, different words, but all my world. thank you.

  • Where is the Power?

  • lol

  • You must not know that it is very hard to sing in a different language, also this language is most likely tribal so making it even harder to sing. But either way beautiful song.

  • Comment removed

  • It's awesome, but it's a bit off key at some point.

  • @supergreatsuper Bah, they're high schoolers. Still impressive to me!

  • @supergreatsuper they're a small group, so ya, it's not prefect, but it's BEAUTIFUL!

  • @supergreatsuper it is bound to go off key at some points...it's so hard even for the greatest of singers to stay on key all the time

  • still at the end of the day - no swaying = bad result. Its been sung like an american gathering would, no swaying no enjoyment tbh, thats what they teachin america,

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • The formal wear killed it for me.

They were too stiff and didn't get into the song; not enough emotion.

  • It's good if you don't watch the video, but listen to the music.

  • gj its really great can listen to your version over and over!

  • who the fuck cares.Go sing and don't post this bullshit.Prove it instead yapping about it.

  • where are the notes for this??

  • they are flat the whole time.

  • In saying that ..... this is a very good version.

  • THE MADS ARE WONDERFUL! especially this year of madrigal choir. that was a golden year for greeley.

    =)

  • As i said earlier and i stand by it - they is no swaying apart from that one woman. So many american videos like this that ruin the song.

  • YAY MADRIGALS :)

  • i think they shouldve made sections for sopranos and altos and tenors/bass cause it looks really confusing heree

you see random people singing certain parts and sometimes crossing over to other parts

  • Or it's just a normal mix in a small a cappella group that is commonly done to improve overall blend and sound.

  • go greeley madrigals

  • i'm sooooooorry but this is not that great.

  • lol, everyone who is telling the truth about this performance get's a thumbs down. they suck (no offense) they are terribly out of tune and balance. after reading hthis, look at my thumbs up/down (it'l be down)

  • you got 1 thumb up from me :P

  • Teehee. The girl bopping around on the top riser...if you're going to move, make sure it's synchronized with the rest of the group and you're not the only one. You are an ensemble, after all...

  • the song is from a video game right? once againe behold the positive aspects of kids sitting on there butts

  • horrible

  • wats the lady mean theres no translation in the program? all ya had to put was the lords prayer

  • I think i'm blacking out.. This is amazing! How the hell did you succed to sing it so good and with all the different aspects?! It's amazing!! I'm in a choir too, and the only thing i want to do now is to analyse and sing this song.. I've played civilisation 4 so it's really a big thing for me. GO GÖTEBORG!!

  • do you think any of these people in the choir play civilisation 4??

  • haha go greeley mads! and this song which we are re-doing now!!!! <3<3!!!

  • thats nice

  • the guy in the yellow shirt was good

  • God, no he wasn't. Why the hell does everybody think he was good?

  • Christ chill out, its just my opinion

  • that part where the women come in at amina after 1:35 gives me the shivers

  • That was great. I love that the girl in the middle is trying not to dance but she can't help but move a little. Awesome job!

  • Ditto :D

  • awsome

  • too slow ;) still good

  • This comment is so bad... funny how so much of the world's top dance genres originate in the states. You can't label the entire country by a few bad performances.

  • WELL, most of the world's top dance genres came from the African Americans: Hip-Hop, Jazz, Swing, albeit in America. (Ballet and Contemporary from Europe) But, that still doesn't excuse this choir from butchering the spirit of the song and let me tell you, they completely did. The vocals don't matter as much as the spirit for these kinds of songs.

  • It's a bunch of white kids singing...what do ya want? They were good enough to be invited to the Disney Honors festival.

The song itself was composed by an Asian for a video game.

How are they lacking in spirit? The lighting's horrible; you can barely see their faces.

  • Despite the lighting, I can see their faces clearly. And, music like this is meant to be danced to, because cultures in Africa don't separate music and dance; it's one thing to them. That one girl in the middle was the only one who attempted to live out the spirit, and to that I congratulate her.

  • Are you suggesting that they should dance on that stage? he3x :3 ~

  • Bahh...

A bit of lively clapping and foot stomping from all of the would have helped the video.

  • The song is originally a christian song, just translated when you think about it.

  • It's still a Christian song, even when translated.

  • yea that' what I meant in short XD

  • Agreed totally

  • You seem very ignorant, I'm sorry the videos of this song from americans do not have people moving but i dont see any videos from the uk on youtube. If i saw a video from the uk, what if i said "All of these brits have bad teeth, something those brits dont understand is to brush their teeth". Just say "this choir doesnt sway" dont make a generalization to all americans because even my school choir dances and sways, and guess what, im american. Stop saying stereotypes, they are very offensive.

  • ok ive listen to a fe on the net and this seems to be a good one, the girl in the centre btw is nice :P

  • of course it is not in englsih! its in swahilie. i've been to africa before, and its a great language.

but this group makes it seem not so good.

naaahht a good performance my these people.. not at all. this is meant for a full chorus.. not 8 amature singers. and one girl is way too loud.

  • all i could translate was 'give us today our daily food' or 'bread'

here i can assume that this is just a reendition of the prayer

  • THIS IS NOT ON ENGLISH!!!!!

  • i know its not

    its swehili (sp?)

but now i kept translating with my south african friend who knows a little bit of it, he says he understands "oh God, who is in heaven," and "give us today our daily bread (or food) and forgive us..."

  • yes it is!!!!

  • oh please be quite

    THIS IS JUST SO PERFECT

  • With all my honor, this video and the song is very nice but who records this? Sound quality is so poor.

  • it's amazing...
