  • I'm working close to the house and making $3,500.00 a week (84hrs.) welding 16" 120 wall p5+ 5/32root, p5(red)3/16 hotpass with couple fillers all down hill then 5/32 low-high(7018) the rest with a three bead cap. Getting bout 3 a day with brother in-law! That's burning some rods!

  • @nlevier if your only making 3 16" welds a day and on anything but tie-ins you need to give it up! And if your on tie ins then your tie in man needs fired! 16" ain't shit!

  • Are you uphanding that or downhanding it?? I'm guessing 6010 downhand the whole way ?

  • Do some 48" chrome steam steam pipe.Nebraska City Ne. Tig Root & hotpass, stick out .Heavy f-----g wall.Hated every minute of that job.Pipe preheated and summertime in Ne.

  • Several years ago before the crisis i use to earn around 3400.00 per 84hr on Turnarounds ... miss those days 40hrs SUCKS

  • Offshore welders earn $2,775.00 per 84 hr. work week. If you would like to go to work offshore, then please send to me your email address.

  • @moseseseseses LMMFAO I make that in a 70 hour week as a helper. You need to try harder to spam union pipeliners.

  • Whats the Wall Thickness? I do X-RAY...Looks like a long shot time on that one, unless im able to do an internal shot.

    Kooney X-RAY...We look for problems

  • yeah you got 17" of i.p.d. on the top..

  • 3/16 shoot!!!!!!! use some 5mm pipeliner rods!!!!!!!!!! what!! you get losts of pinholes.....bing! bing! bing!

  • do what? omg, u must be union, LOL

  • No we not Union, but we are all held to the same high quality and same "procedures" on welding.

And to add a little stress to it all, if you get 3 repairs on that job site you're out of the money till you roll on anther. Oh, most gas companies if not all keep track of your everything you do, attendance, sick time, repairs, compliance to safety, it goes on.......

  • that looks like it took 2 days to finish, well the root pass, then another 2 days for the hot pass..

  • No bead is a 5/32 6010++ and or 1/8 6010++ you get approx 6" of travel depending on fit, after that its 3/16 all the way out. Code is 9 pass min.

It takes on 0.988 wall 6 to 7.5 hours. myself and welding partner knocked one out in 4.5 Hours

  • Where did you come up with 6" of travel figure? What code quotes the minimum number of passes? Where did you make the 42" joint in 4.5 hours? Do you really believe your work is held to the same standard as that of a Union job site? Who do you think writes the code? What size coupon did you test on? SMAW uphill?

  • If done properly it would take 16 man hours to complete one joint. So two men could complete one weld joint (without special fit up) welding from tack to cap. Using the uphill process (in plant). If you used the downhill (cross country) process, you could complete the same joint, to X ray quality in about two hours.

  • i was working in florida we did a 30 inch 500 wall and it was like an hour for each with a bead hot pass two fillers and a double cap..

  • how many did yall burn. on that hotpass.????
