  • Now you can start crushing melons with an impact weapon. Nice.

  • Excellent tip! Thanks for sharing.

  • You notice the moment that he gets ahold of the bat, he then turns the bat for a sideways swing. This is probably the worst thing he can do at this point. In the moment when he acquires the bat, he's at the low level of swing for the standard sledgehammer use case, with the left hand at the butt of the bat and the right hand about the middle of the bat. The opponent is in a perfect "decapitate me" position, so why not use the opportunity to cream him with the most powerful blow possible?

  • Gotta love all the couchpatatos in below comments saying this never happens, or it doesn't work. It does work and does happen, the only problem with this is you cant learn fighting from a video.it only comes on a mat or on the pavement, preferably in that order...

  • I am wondering if that leverage is true.... because he's holding the opposite tips of the bat that will give he much leverage actually. Just thinking about it, I am not sure.

  • @kzterminator - Actually it works almost like magic. Try this out with someone, even if they're not a training partner. Ask them to hold on to the bat as tight as possible and you'll see that it takes no effort at all to leverage it out of their hands. Keep your arm close to your body for better positioning.

Also, as discussed elsewhere for this video, timing is key as the bat will be headed toward you. Step back at the same time to go with their forward momentum.

  • crushing melons wow that sounds horrible

  • who attacks with a bat like that? Once again another unrealistic self defense technique

  • @legendwaitforitdiary - Really? You've never seen anyone attack with a bat like this? Sure looked "realistic" when I watched a group of 18th Streeters keep back hold back a few homies while their buddy got a stompin. Guess our "realities" are a few blocks away from one another, eh?

  • @cqctraining i think he meant it in a way as in this is helpful only in that situation if ur in a fight and the other person has the bat there gonna swing not push

  • @legendwaitforitdiary Dude you have absolutly no idea what you're talking about. I've personally seen this done before.

  • good method but you will break a rib garenteed :/

  • Very smooth technique but note the weapons force is now pushing into your ribs unless you stand at a safe angle . Strength does come in with the leverage, and stronger chance that may not work out so nicely. If you have your arm like that in-between the weapon, all hell could break loose over what the attacker can do at this point.

  • i just enrolled in MMA i know im gonna get my ass kicked but i dont think thell beat me with bats just incase tho tks 4 the vid^^

  • Sweet effective disarm very smooth. It helps also if you glow with his forward momentum a bit, kinda like you do in tai chi when someone pushes you. You dissipate some of the energy of this stirke by going with it and you can still employ this excellent disarm here. GOOD stuff.

  • @TheSubwaysurfer - You're absolutely right SWS. I could have demonstrated that better in this self defense video.

If anyone is reading these comments, SubwaySurfer's point is spot on. With this self defense weapon disarm technique, the attacker's forward momentum will be very strong because he's trying to push hard. Use that to your advantage and step back and to the side to help with the disarm and keep the attacker off balance.

Thanks for the great addition SWS!

  • Nice, after work today I'm going to work on this technique. I'll post after our workout today how it worked for us.

  • @red1072 - yes...definitely report back on your results with this self defense technique! Would love to hear how it worked for you!

  • Very nice technique. Naturally this should be practiced in a stressful environment to become accustom to the fight-flight response

  • @KirkhamsEbooks - absolutely agree. This is actually one of the easier self defense techniques to use in adrenal stress training because it's a power move by an attacker so it comes in a bit slower than say a punch. The impact weapon is usually "cocked" to provide forward thrust and greatly telegraphs the strike.

  • "Crushin' melons?" I think you went a little too far there.
