  • I admire this guy, but freedom of speech does not preclude violating a contract, regardless of how much money the other side is making. He has every right to display the sign, but Shell also has the right to end the contract.

  • That station is near monterey california

  • The true American spirit of our forefathers lives in this man. If there were more Americans like him, we wouldn't be staring down the barrel of $3.27 a gallon of gas right now.

  • All Gas Station owners price gouge on the food they sell, so him fighting gas prices is small potatoes comparied to the $3.00's for only a half gallon of milk, or the .49 cent package of Soup Mix costing $2.00, and the .60 cent box of Mac & Cheese that costs $2.89 more than make up for it. All gas station owners price gouge on all their convinience foods up to 4x to 5x what it's actually worth. So I'm sure this gas station owner isn't hurting much with his $5.98 for a $2.30 box of ice cream.

  • Yes, but people HAVE to buy gas to get to where they are going especially in a place like California. You don't have to buy candy or food at the gas station, you are paying for the convenience, you should go to the proper grocery store which are actually able to stock on truckloads of individual items to give you your discounts. It's not about the owner hurting, it's about all of us hurting.

  • @DarthCrimsonDeath You slightly missed my point, though I see your arguement it really didn't pertain to what I was talking about.

  • This guy is an idiot and obviously was going to fail from stupidity. Why would you go into business and put yourself in a position where your main revenue was going to be the sales of gasoline and then tell the supplier of said gasoline that they are criminals. Oil and Gas companies are not at falt for the flutuation of gas, it's hedge fund managers, and nationalized oil companies from other nations that do all of the price manipulation.

  • @wfran15 oil and gas companies are no saints either however. they are in fact profiting from high energy prices more so than when prices are low, so clearly some gouging is taking place. this guy seems like a good guy who really values his freedoms, especially after coming from a country with none.

  • @wfran15 Because he has a backbone to stand up for what is right unlike the majority of spineless pussy American's who continue to get fucked by government and corporations. Money is nothing. Pride and dignity is everything.

  • I respect and honor him!

  • This man is right, they are stealing our money, and gas gouging. Screw the goverment, someone all of americans need to stand up and do something. Why won't anyone stand up the the goverment, and do something about this. Everything has gone up so high, you can't even aford to buy food at the store now, so less than gas. This just really sucks. DArn goverment. They need to stop doing this. And why can't you have freedom of speach, I thought america was the land of free. Bull crap not even with cps

  • After a hunger strike Mr. Shahbazi died.

    The Associated Press

Article Launched: 11/17/2007 01:50:20 PM PST

PALO ALTO, Calif. Mehdi Shahbazi, a gasoline station operator who waged a hunger strike and public-relations battle against Shell Oil Co., died this week at Stanford University Hospital of liver failure. He was 65.

  • Fuck the shell company they know their in on it too! That guy did the right thing with gasoline costing almost $5.00 a gallon now.

  • The governement makes over 3 times what the oil companies make on gas, so who is price gouging? Oil companies make, on average, 4% on the sale of gasoline. World demand and restrictions on drilling are the two biggest factors in high prices today. It is fortunate for the media that many know so little about economics.

  • @oilhammer04 they make money on the tariffs intended to protect american energy companies. you could argue that tariffs of any sort are price gouging, but i think that american companies who would otherwise go under would disagree.

  • Does the tariff get passed on to the consumer? I heard a while back that oil from over seas (not sure about all of it) was $10 more per barrel than domestic oil.

  • yes with oil the tariff does get passed onto the consumer because our demand is inelastic (we will buy regardless of the price). i think that statistic would be about europe, and i am not sure if its because of heavy tariffs, inefficient shipping, or something else but yeah it is much more expensive over there

  • thias man i love him !! he is awesome..but i have a question for the goverment..why dont us banned opec,,,!!! dang,,,we still have oil here,,if we dont,,then we r the retards for not havn it...i dont give a crap about what anyone thinks about me,but i know if us will banned opec,,then and only then things will change....

  • @anothersportsfan because our economy is completely dependent on oil, so much so that we may as well be drinking it. if we banned opec we would go into a recession that makes the great depression look like a joke. we dont have oil here really relative to the world, not enough to sustain our usage, not even for a year.

  • Awesome *****

  • Got to respect this man. He's one of the few that will stand up to these giants. I'd do as much shopping in his little store as I could if I were near it. That's sad man.

  • Sad but true. He is a brave man.
