I haven't seen this sinse I was a kid and it was just so magical to me. I envied those kids so much! I think a few of tried to, "fly" by ourselves and got a little bunged up. Thanks for putting th is up. :) Songs
Thanks for including that scene of Mary Martin flying by herself, and having so much fun. Everyone should do that once in a safe environment. Much better than that stupid bungee jump.
My grandparents have this on video, and it was almost a tradition for me, that at least once when I'd visit I'd watch this. Now I have a daughter and she and my husband are going to get to see it when we visit later this year.
i love Mary martin and every thing but i think that this scene and ive gotta crow were more fun to watch the Cathy Rigby version (probably because of the whole being and Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics) because she would be walking on her hands doing cartwheels and when she is flying be doing flips and things like that
Everytime I see this I'm a little kid again, free of all responsibilities and cares. I don't see any wires or special effects, it still looks like flying to me ^_^
@snarl012 Legend has it that Mary occasionally would fly into the walls at Stage Right and Left, and after a while, one of the stagehands put up a sign on one of the walls that read "Mary Martin Slapt Here" :)
my grandma has this performance on vhs and i used to watch it all the time as a kid and still do occasionally (i'm 20 now). finally watched it for the first time live last night at the local professional theater. was so cool to see, though its hard for me to see anyone play the part of peter besides miss mary martin.
@broadwaygal2008 You should check out Cathy Rigby! She is a great Peter and really brought the 'little boy' side to the part. I grew up with Mary Martin but recently watched the Rigby version and was blown away!
@melmelmelmelmel12695 She originated the musical role. This was her "comeback" performance, because people wanted to see her play this again. Still counts amongst many as the best performance out there.
What memories. I grew up watching this since I was a baby. Back then I always believed that they truly were flying and that this scene was the most beautiful part of the whole play. I sang along with Mary Martin every time and ran around the room pretending I was flying with her as Peter Pan.
Mary Martin (RIP) was my second favorite Peter Pan after the Disney version. She made me believe that folks really could fly if we believed in it.

I love how the maid is just all 'WHERE ARE YOU GOING?' with literally zero alarm, or no comment at the fact the kids just FLEW out the window.

Thank you to the person who put this up.
Once a year we would have "Peter Pan" night. Dinners, homework and baths were worked around this night.
Everyone would gather around the television to watch Mary Martin playing Peter Pan. Wonderful family times.
Later in the year we would do the same work around another show, The Wizard of
Oz.
Great memories.

Amazing show! I have been in two productions of this musical, once in 2000 and the other one was a few weeks ago (the last weekend of July).
