  • it's such a fun groove to play! I'm a little like you, I find it easier to do the alternating bass instead of the whatever u call it monotone bass thump just on the E....great job though, love this tune!

have you figured out evil blues? that's another super fun one to play and sing, cheers :)

  • Lovely, gusty playing. I love Mance Lipscomb and haven't heard anyone play him so well in a looong while. :)

  • un régal!

aussi bien pour les yeux que pour les oreilles

    bravo

  • King Biscuit Time Show. Helena Arkansas. Come any time. Your Soul is from here in the Delta, beautiful.

  • I like this one best

  • I really enjoy the syncopated guitar picking that you've worked to achieve. Combine that with your voice, which hearkens back to the early 20th Century female blues singers, and you can really do these songs justice. If you ever record a CD, and you should, just have the photo taken from the homey backgrounds you have on your videos. Nicely done! Congratulations, and keep on playing and singing! You're a joy to listen to.

  • Good job, really good!

  • IPBN,

You are doin' Mance some serious justice...I just started working on "Sugar Babe" offa "Songster"..Wish me luck and much manual dexterity!

  • I just notice your little finger stuck on the guitar board, not a good thing to do despite the fact that it's seems useless. I also do the same mistake and can't fix it anymore ! (sorry 4 my poor frenchy english)

  • @boudjeghloullou play it your way, let her play it her way : ) always remember: there. are.no . rules.

  • i love this sooo much

  • take me to the crossroads

  • You have to search a long time for some one who plays and sing like you .

And you will notice, you will not find anyone.

    Graet. Thank you very much.

  • brilliant pal!well done!

  • Vraiment bien ! Ca fait plaisir de vous entendre ! vous avez du talent ! I also watched your rendition of "Crow Jane" ! Really good ! Do you write your own songs ?

  • i like the crappy sound. haggard. raw.

  • how come you dont talk to nobody you gotta be usin somebody elses voice sounds like somethin somebody i used to know used to man ytou get paid to haunt people dont you

  • Really great stuff.

I could never get the bass line going when doing fingerstyle playing. Would like to go back to it.

  • "John,

very poignant. Who is she? Her deep love of the genre is very apparent. Wonder how she would have sounded like with a good mike and proper mixing? Guitar way too dominant but her intensity and groove come through. Interesting to watch her "in prayer" surrounded by mess and clutter, oblivious to all but her devotion to the blues.

    C'mon.

    Vint"

  • Great stuff! Listening to you is a little like being in church. This will make a little more sense when you read the note I sent to a good friend who introduced me to you.

The most obvious thing about your rendition is that you do it because you have to.

The note to my good buddy John follows in the next comment.

  • I think I'm in love with this lady. She has a great voice, she can certainly play, and Mance Lipscomb would have been so proud of her. You know how hard it is to find a female who can appreciate music like this? She also damn beautiful.

  • @Wildmanfan You're not the only one to be in love with her ! ;-)) I'd love to be her man just to listen to her all day long !!!

  • I really like what ya do. I'm a 30 year vet on the guitar, mostly electric, having Hendrix and Jimmy Page pretty much at my fingertips. Just ordered a Robert Johnson Gibson L-1, and will be devoting myself to learning all 29 Johnson songs.

This little lady is smokin'. There's a billion guitarists out there, but few truly great voices. She's got it going on. As to the naysayers, screw you. Unless you post a video reply, you're a waste commenting on anyone negatively. Keep going, Banjo.

  • Smooth!

  • Nice thumb workout, did you figure this out or did you have tabs?

  • You got it girl. Very nice. I'm playing Jelly Roll Morton and Vess Ossman on four-string banjo these days, but you're inspiring me to go back to guitar, too. Peace.

  • Very nice, little lady. I too play the banjo now.

  • I should warn you two other ppl's i subscribed to have gone on the Ellen show, james dupre and mina tank, will some other fans of IPLAY help me get the word out?

  • This from a man that lives 18miles from mances home in navasota tx and saw him live a few times in the early 60's

  • iplay you are a talented young lady, you have the mance finger picking down.

  • I don't know but I'm proud of you for this rendition of a great blues...

    blues 4 ever

  • you are awsome

  • I could listen too you for hours!

  • The United States must be full of beautiful and very talented women if you don't get noticed. Forget the woman bit, it can be an advantage but also insulting to consider as a factor; it's just very listenable; was playing chess and had some music on in the background, your stuff included and it compares well. I do think you could work on the vocals a bit; but that's maybe ignorant opinion.

  • oh by the way,i think its really hilarious that u have hung your knickers on the bedpost for this video!

  • superb! keep that fretboard drippin with soul. i also play the blues banjogirl,in fact i have the blues. thats why i play em. jus doin rock with passion at moment tho.black cat bone southport. keep flyin the blues flag.

  • So delicious song and melody , beautiful girl.

I also use my little finger to level my hand when I play but after a few hours it hurts really bad.

  • Such a joy to watch and listen to, keep it up........wonderful !!

  • I would love to hear you cook up a Townes Van Zandt style version of Dead Flowers. Thanks for sharing your music its appreciated and enjoyed!!

  • I've seen a few of your clips. You're great!!!! YOU CAN PLAY the guitar!!! And the blues!! Very good!! But I don't understand all these guys who need to write groce comments about what/how you play... I think they can's stand a young woman playin' the blues... Rap is easier...

  • I love it !Thanks for sharing your stuff its really good!!

  • Very well done Christine.

    Greetings from Peter in Sweden

  • You're wonderful, and a good guitarist and singer too! lol.

    Keep it up

    hoopiejohn

  • YouTube's comment section is all messed up. You can't tell who responded to who. It's a mess.

  • so true :-/

  • Excellent! Both the vocal and the guitar part sound great, and this is very true to the spirit of the Lipscomb version without being a slavish copy.

  • yeah, je t'aime aussi, mais je suis des Etats Unis. Thanks for the brilliance.

  • sorry,i meant right hand.not left-an error

  • I said Chevrolet in the end. I normally don't reply to comments whether they be positive or negative because I try not to sway people's opinions of the music or the musician in any fashion. However, I've seen the other nasty things you've left on others' pages, and I've decided this: You're one of those blues snobs, aren't ya? You want it to sound just like the single recording you have by one guy, and miss the deeper concept entirely. You're probably a little crazy, too.

  • LOL Good for you!!

  • @IplayBanjoNow

Wow! very effective communication. You should be in politics. You already are aware, but many people have no life outside these u tubes and blogs, sad, but true.

  • I clearly hear "Chevrolet." However, thats irrelevant. I think this is how folk music works (blues is folk music): Some one plays a song. Someone else hears it, likes it and then plays it in accordance to their style or ability. If you listen to the different versions of the same song that different "blues legends" have recorded, you will find that they are all very different, lyrics, notes, and all. I think you must be confusing this with classical music. Oh, and be nice. You'll feel better.

  • Wonderfull as allways :) I just wish I could see those beautifull eyes of yours more often in the video but then I might forget the music ;) Many thanks, hugs from Sweden..

  • je t'aime, j'aime ton blues !! si tu viens en France, préviens moi !!

  • Magnifico ,fantastic I sub !

  • This and Your version of Crow

    Jane is fantastico magnifico.

    Thanks for sharing

  • this goes to my favourites, i knew lipscomb 35 years ago, here in germany - i think - not nany people know him, i always liked his picking style 5 *******

  • great playing.

    good groove.

  • Really nice job. I would love to try and learn this. Do you know where I could find any teaching references for it? Thanks

  • Great job! Love this old Mance Lipscomb boogie oogie!

  • Can you please, please, help me out with the lyrics in the 3rd verse and in the last one? What is he saying there?

I'm learning all of this stuff now. You've inspired me big time.

  • I thought it was "I'll buy you a triple lane," as in the style of bracelet, but someone told me it's "strip of land."

  • Thank you for that. I've since heard that it was "triple lane" too, but I think I hear him saying "strip of land," as you said. The other one I couldn't hear was "sedan Ford" which I got from someone last week. Thanks again for the inspiration. A year or so ago, I tried to get exposed to more of these kinds of players with not much success. Up until now, I've been really into Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy but through you, I'm getting exposed to all kinds of cool players.

  • There are a bunch of nice live recordings of Lipscomb at the Wolfgang's Vault website; you can stream them for free or download them for a price. At least one of them, from December 1964, includes this song, though it's misidentified as "Chevrolet," and on that version you can hear the "strip of land" line pretty clearly.

  • good pickin' girl!!

  • You are so good ! You got the pickin' down! Good video on here of Mance and Lightnin' Hopkins. Johnny Clyde Copeland is another good Texas bluesman.

  • are those vinyl records in the background? I have a bunch that I'm trying to unload.

  • who ever you cuddle with at night is the luckiest person i've known to exist...

  • Sooo Talented,

    love this.

  • Beautiful, I'm looking forward to more songs of these blues singers. I really like the way you perform them.

  • How swift thy fingers, my dear...

    Verrrrrrry good! :-)

  • What year is that Martin? It sounds really good. I've been shopping around for a new/old guitar myself. I'd like to get an L-4 or an L-5 gibson pre World War II, but they cost an arm and a leg.

    P.S

We need some more songs!! You're the best folk singer on youtube by far.

  • Great singing and playing!

My favorite video of yours, so far.

  • Comment removed

  • FANTASTIC!

  • Wow! I'm very impressed. I'll be sure to check out some of your other videos. You sing and play the guitar beautifully. Thumbs up!

  • is the original mance or memphis minnie?

  • Another cracker.

  • yes.

  • I love the sound of Mance Lipscomb.

    Good Job!

  • I am becoming a true fan! I love listening to these old songs. GREAT JOB.!

  • Great performance as always - you're keeping these real blues songs alive. 5 stars plus again.

  • This is the way blues should sound !!

Well done ; U can add me to your fan club.

Do u write your own songs??

  • Lovely tone from your Martin, Banjo.

Great playing as always, thanks for posting.

By the way, are those medium guage strings you're using?

Keep up the good work, your playing is great!

  • You are amazing! Thanks for sharing.

  • Very nice playing I've got a long way to go lol. Nice tone on the guitar too. Mance is one of my favorite bluesmen.

  • great playing as usual

    5*

  • GREAT!!!

  • I'm still in love...

  • You never disappoint! Thanks for sharing!! This vid and audio are MUCH clearer than the others - can I ask what you switched to...? Really nice job - keep 'em coming...

  • Thanks for the new song! Nice hair change :D

  • Over again, fantastic

  • Sweet! Another tune I've been workin' on!! Jus' a lil' here an' there... Started rewritin' the vocals an' then gave up... Great tune. An excellent performance (as always). Singing and playing equally impressive.

New guitar? Martin OO? OOO? I ain't too knowledgeable 'bout them things, but it sure does sound (an' look) purty...

  • Thanks! It is! It belongs to "fallfrukt." It's a 000-16. He did recently give me a D18, which I love.

  • Thank you for new song! I feel blues soul.

  • You never cease to amaze! I have a hard time deciding if I liek your guitar picking or your voice better. Both are amazing!

  • Great guitar work. However, in Mance's version, he offers to buy her a "strip of land", not a "trampoline" (?) as it sounds like you are singing. Also, she finally accepts his offer of a "sedan Ford".

  • Thanks! But it wasn't trampoline. I thought it was triple lane, which is a style of bracelet. I gotta go back and listen now. Also, she accepts the sedan ford in this video. Now you have me wishing it was trampoline.

  • This is amazing. The guitar playing is hypnotic, and your voice is top-notch, as always.

  • Sounds nice. Punchy guitar rag.

  • Nicely done! Cool, casual and understated like the original.

    (cool guitar too)

  • Thank you, baby!!
