greatness son. this game meant a lot to me. was so good. defeat goldman to get good money. if life was just that simple. id f some gold man's world up lol :)
OMG I've been playing the tune from 0:56 - 1:40 over and over on my piano and couldn't figure out where I got it from I knew it was from a game I had a feeling it was this one but couldn't remember the name FINALLY figured it out yay!!!!!!
I first got this game when I was 11 years old, back in Christmas of 2005.
That year, I got a Nintendo DS with Animal Crossing: Wild World and Sonic Rush; the N64 games Rampage 2 and Banjo-Tooie; the GameCube games Super Smash Bros. Melee, Zelda: The Wind Waker, Spongebob: Lights Camera Pants!, and Shadow the Hedgehog; and an NES with the Mario trilogy, Zelda, Kid Icarus, the NES Sports series, Excitebike, and this.
I got all those games, and what did I play that whole week?
As a child I spent an entire summer and part of the fall beating dragon warrior 1.. This was the first game I ever beat on nes. My friends thought I was completely lame...consequently they are now hooked on Halo. As it turns out, I must of been doing something right.
this was one of the funnest, most challenging games I used to play on the NES. Never could get very far in it without dying. I finally played it again on a NES simulator 15 years later and finally finished it.
@xboofoox Thanks. I actually did end up using this as my ring tone. i downloaded it with Real Player, converted it to MP3, and trimmed it to the appropriate lengths.
The cartridge art for this game captivated me as a child. I was too young to really understand how to play, but I spent hours killing slimes and occasionally attempting to venture across a bridge or two.
Last year I picked it up for the first time as an adult, and played all the way through it. Games have come a long way in my lifetime, but this game has a lot to offer which modern games do not. I don't know that I've ever had more fun than I did making maps of the dungeons. Play this game.
Oh god, the nostalgia...I remember getting this game for subscribing to Nintendo Power magazine. My mother could never understand how I spend hours on this game...but I beat it...and felt so proud. This music really brings me back. Thanks, garudoh!
enix inspired square to make final fantasy with dragon warrior. now look at square, it's bought out enix and added it to the end of it's name. the apprentice became the master. they're last chance was also they're rise to power. atleast they still respect the name of they're old master. now i must find out if square-enix would like to buy namco tales studio ltd. from namco bandai and pit lloyd against sephiroth in the brand new game, tales of kingdom hearts. jk jk, but that would be funny. lol.
Awesome. I was one of those folks who got this game with some Nintendo Power deal. Sign up for the magazine for a year and get the game free (or something like that). Such a great deal. I loved this game!
My favorite video game and system ever!!! I love old fashioned video games like this, especially the music! The nintendo wii has lousy music compared to this.
this is probably some of the best work done by any game around this era. i cannot think of any music that is better than this game. with of course the exception of the mario bros. games
the game was made way back in 1989 and the theme is medieval, its like an orchestra to a rock band. The music is so great they dont need percussions and noisy stuff. PURE MUSIC. its one of the best in NES music. there are tons of worse ones...
Has anyone here played the NES game Startropics? The way the layout is on this game makes me think of it. But I don't know if Square made Startropics or if someone else did.

I picked this up a year before Final Fantasy came out, and have to say up to that point it was the most amazing game I had ever played. I remember sitting in Summer school and drawing a nice blown up copy of Erdrick from the box cover. This game was only the first to consume me, but paved the road. Dragon Warrior is a gateway game... >.>
That's a cool story! I would have liked to have seen that blown of drawing of Erdrick. Dragon Warrior was my first console rpg and I love it to this day still.
I remember begging my mom to get me this game. There was a coupon in Nintendo Power for like $15 for it when I was in the 3rd grade. 1st RPG I ever played, I was like what's this?? But it was so different and amazing, thank God for this game, and these memories. I still remember sitting in my bean bag while my brother watched me defeat Gold Men and Wyverns! Such an awesome game...which I could bring back those days.
Man, so many people call the Legendary warrior "Edrick". I'm like nooooooooo fools. It's Erdrick, not Edrick. This guy tried to argue with me because I had the name Erdrick and he had Edrick in World of Warcraft. He kept saying that my name was wrong and that it is Edrick. I told him to go play the game and see. He was like yeah I have. So I finally showed him a scan of the little game guide that comes with the game. And he never spoke to me again.
Showed his dumb ass...My email even has Erdrick in it...if you're gonna name something after something else, make sure you spell it right...otherwise you just look like an asshole...
Yeah for some reason I always thought it was Edrick too, I dunno why. It wasn't till like twelve years ago I realized it was Erdrick. I guess Edrick just sounded more natural.
My NES collection seemed so obscure sometimes when I hear what everyone else played, but seeing this brought back a ton of memories. Slaughtering slimes and what not was always fun times when I was a kid.

Try playing these tracks doubled, with the second track just slightly delayed. It gives the music a beautiful echoing sound. ^_^
