  • Try playing these tracks doubled, with the second track just slightly delayed. It gives the music a beautiful echoing sound. ^_^

  • Anyone remember how awesome it was when you finally made it to the town to buy those fricking keys?

  • Thou has done well in defeating the Wyvern... ahh the memories.

  • YES... 2:20... OMG

  • Thank you so Much From bleeps to beeps is awesome. Thank you.

  • This game has such memorable music. Very hypnotic feel.

  • I played Dragon Warrior: Monster Master. This isn't the same, is it? It had the same music, though.

  • @Erdrickgr I give you a thumbs up too ;) Appropriate?

  • 100% Free Video games - 100% Legal thru steam - Points2game D O T Com

  • WHY DIDNT YOU USE THE DRAGON WARRIOR 3 MUSIC??????

  • 1:41 sounds like Debussy a little

    watch?v=zjtY8QEIkLQ

  • I love this game..

  • T.T I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!

  • My first video game was dragon warrior. It's so good it even rivals it's newer sequels. And it defiantly will never get old. NEVER

  • I was only a baby, born in 1989. And I got this game from my uncle back when I was excited on NES.

  • @elebits4545 did he suck you off?

  • @zonkedhombre I hope you feel empowered, troll. You obviously needed a way to make yourself feel superior. Back to your bridge now.

  • @screamingmeanie u mad

  • I first got this game when I was 11 years old, back in Christmas of 2005.

That year, I got a Nintendo DS with Animal Crossing: Wild World and Sonic Rush; the N64 games Rampage 2 and Banjo-Tooie; the GameCube games Super Smash Bros. Melee, Zelda: The Wind Waker, Spongebob: Lights Camera Pants!, and Shadow the Hedgehog; and an NES with the Mario trilogy, Zelda, Kid Icarus, the NES Sports series, Excitebike, and this.

I got all those games, and what did I play that whole week?

    Dragon Warrior.

  • As a child I spent an entire summer and part of the fall beating dragon warrior 1.. This was the first game I ever beat on nes. My friends thought I was completely lame...consequently they are now hooked on Halo. As it turns out, I must of been doing something right.

  • i don't remember the music @ 3:10. was that really in there?

  • @BenBen153 Was the music when you fought the DragonKing. (The Final Boss)

  • @luvmenow33 i don't think i ever fought the dragon king... that's probably why i never heard the music!

  • this was one of the funnest, most challenging games I used to play on the NES. Never could get very far in it without dying. I finally played it again on a NES simulator 15 years later and finally finished it.

  • I so want the opening theme to be my ring tone. I also want the fight music to be my message tone.

  • @arachknight1979 thats an amazing idea for message tone...right now mine the codec from metal gear lol

  • @xboofoox Thanks. I actually did end up using this as my ring tone. i downloaded it with Real Player, converted it to MP3, and trimmed it to the appropriate lengths.

  • The cartridge art for this game captivated me as a child. I was too young to really understand how to play, but I spent hours killing slimes and occasionally attempting to venture across a bridge or two.

Last year I picked it up for the first time as an adult, and played all the way through it. Games have come a long way in my lifetime, but this game has a lot to offer which modern games do not. I don't know that I've ever had more fun than I did making maps of the dungeons. Play this game.

  • Oh god, the nostalgia...I remember getting this game for subscribing to Nintendo Power magazine. My mother could never understand how I spend hours on this game...but I beat it...and felt so proud. This music really brings me back. Thanks, garudoh!

  • enix inspired square to make final fantasy with dragon warrior. now look at square, it's bought out enix and added it to the end of it's name. the apprentice became the master. they're last chance was also they're rise to power. atleast they still respect the name of they're old master. now i must find out if square-enix would like to buy namco tales studio ltd. from namco bandai and pit lloyd against sephiroth in the brand new game, tales of kingdom hearts. jk jk, but that would be funny. lol.

  • Awesome. I was one of those folks who got this game with some Nintendo Power deal. Sign up for the magazine for a year and get the game free (or something like that). Such a great deal. I loved this game!

  • cool...great!!! awesome!!!!! thank you!!!!!

  • My favorite video game and system ever!!! I love old fashioned video games like this, especially the music! The nintendo wii has lousy music compared to this.

  • 0:57 exactly what is the name of that tune. It's a classical piece, but I can't remember what it's called or who composed it.

  • @fatalrob0t It's called "Castle Theme", not sure about the classical piece part, but here's an absolutely brilliant symphonic rendition of it:

    .

    watch?v=am1nHQif7Qw

  • @Adeon55 thanks!

  • @fatalrob0t np ;D

  • "Thou art dead."

    Grrrrr.

"Death should not have taken thee." Why don't you go try fighting shadow knights and red dragons, KING!

  • My favorite game. The last boss was so hard to get to, damn labyrinth !

  • Im playing this right now and damn this music is annoying lol

  • my god. this is when games were good. music n all

  • I don't think I'll ever forget that opening fanfare. Great moment in gaming!

  • wow para mi uno de los mejores rpg gracias enix

  • You comedian! :P

  • this is probably some of the best work done by any game around this era. i cannot think of any music that is better than this game. with of course the exception of the mario bros. games

  • the game was made way back in 1989 and the theme is medieval, its like an orchestra to a rock band. The music is so great they dont need percussions and noisy stuff. PURE MUSIC. its one of the best in NES music. there are tons of worse ones...

  • This game was originally released in Japan in 1986.

  • so nostalgic....i played this alot when i was a kid. :D

    same for Chrystalis.

  • So nostalgic. 10/5

  • 1:40

  • Yeah, I know...that sequence will stay in my mind forever!

  • @mikesmithsupersaiyan

that is the best part of the video lol. i seriously was looking up that specific song. anyone know where i could download it from???

  • the music that starts at 0:55 will always be in my memory.

this was one of the first games i played.

  • I want to play this game, I never got to!

Has anyone here played the NES game Startropics? The way the layout is on this game makes me think of it. But I don't know if Square made Startropics or if someone else did.

  • 'Dost thou wish to buy more?'

.....ahhh old English...so confusion for a 7 year old. fun times fun times:)

  • I always LOVED the theme from the beginning 0:06 - 0:56 <3 was my first game so it is indeed epic lol

  • castle theme sounds like the title of Fat Princess (PS3)

  • how does that have anything to do with this.

  • grow the fuck up

  • Whatever. He criticized me because I said something other than, "I luv this game teh music is so amazingly awesome!" My response was in a facetious manner so he'd be able to better realize his folly. Get over it.

  • No I criticized you because you come here, on a legendary games page and mention some faggy ass new age PS3 game that little girls play. Dragon Warrior was a saga for true men. Lethal Knights roaming the world killing everything evil in sight and trying to save the weak. Take your shitty new age girly bullshit elsewhere. That's all.

  • Crappy. this game is still fucken amazing. And way better than most rpgs out today. Fuck u

  • just saying. whatever "AMAZING" role playing game you love.. is probably worse than this game.

  • I love dragon Quest/Warrior. I remember when it came out in the USA. It's a great game series.

  • I love this game. The version from Dragon Warrior III is cool too. Anyone know where can I get the version played by an orchestra?

  • 1:40 to 2:22

  • The music sounds depressing...

    My dad loves this game.

  • Man, I wish MY dad played video games.

    I haven't played Dragon Quest/Warrior. I prefer Final Fantasy.

  • Funny, I prefer Dragon Quest over Final Fantasy.

  • pretty much the same same thing just more searching envolved

  • Actually, this music is very happy sounding. Especially, when you here it orchestrated.

  • castle theme ( 0:56 - 141 ) is amazing... ah, how I miss it.

  • 0:56 - 1:41 classic tune ^^; 2:23 - 2:50 scaaaaary!

  • wth when i was little the monster looked sooo BIIG damn now they are little and dont frighten me :(

  • Ha, I'm actually playing through this game right now. Currently level 13 and saving up for that damn Magic Armor. Great music, btw.

  • lol.. now think of playing without being able to save it.. thats how it was for us.. we couldnt save our game and take it out of the system or else it would erase the data... yet i still managed to buy that accursed armor lol a billion gold golems (or gold man?... i forgot) later i finally bought it and i wasnt able to be touched by monsters lol... either way i eventually beat the game without being able to save it or anything:D on the good ole nes

  • Sheesh, you must've had that console running for a LONG time.

  • 3 or so full days o.o lol

  • A LION DRAWS NEAR! COMMAND?

    >Fight >Magic

    >JESUS CHRIST >Get in car

  • 1:40 to 2:22

  • my favorite game man unfortunatley i broke the game. I couldn't figure out how to get acrosse the dam bridge make a rainbow bridge oh well great game

  • Man, the memories. I remember fighting gold golems forever to afford that damn broad sword :)

  • i only just got this a few weeks ago.

i have to say its addictive.

  • I love this series. Better than FF as of late.

  • Man, I used to play this game every time I'd go visit my grandparents. I loved this game.

  • I picked this up a year before Final Fantasy came out, and have to say up to that point it was the most amazing game I had ever played. I remember sitting in Summer school and drawing a nice blown up copy of Erdrick from the box cover. This game was only the first to consume me, but paved the road. Dragon Warrior is a gateway game... >.>

  • That's a cool story! I would have liked to have seen that blown of drawing of Erdrick. Dragon Warrior was my first console rpg and I love it to this day still.

  • I remember begging my mom to get me this game. There was a coupon in Nintendo Power for like $15 for it when I was in the 3rd grade. 1st RPG I ever played, I was like what's this?? But it was so different and amazing, thank God for this game, and these memories. I still remember sitting in my bean bag while my brother watched me defeat Gold Men and Wyverns! Such an awesome game...which I could bring back those days.

  • Dude, me too! Not in summer school though.... I still have it, and turned it in for a grade.

  • @Raligard me too lol this game was one of my favorite childhood memories...lol

  • @Raligard Remember they had a grave for Erdrick in Final Fantasy in that town right after you first get your ship?

  • @botchalism I do remember that now that you mention it! *heh* So many games make cross references these days, but back then it was uncommon.

  • I loved this game. Never completed it until last year :)

  • Ill never forget completing the game and finally arrive at the dragon lord and choosing to join him haha.

  • LOL and the game ends there too! No going back (unless to a past saved game).

  • it's worth it :P

  • Yep. Gotta love those old rpgs.

  • Man, so many people call the Legendary warrior "Edrick". I'm like nooooooooo fools. It's Erdrick, not Edrick. This guy tried to argue with me because I had the name Erdrick and he had Edrick in World of Warcraft. He kept saying that my name was wrong and that it is Edrick. I told him to go play the game and see. He was like yeah I have. So I finally showed him a scan of the little game guide that comes with the game. And he never spoke to me again.

  • Showed his dumb ass...My email even has Erdrick in it...if you're gonna name something after something else, make sure you spell it right...otherwise you just look like an asshole...

  • Yeah for some reason I always thought it was Edrick too, I dunno why. It wasn't till like twelve years ago I realized it was Erdrick. I guess Edrick just sounded more natural.

  • Which dragon warrior for the NES is the best? ntx :)

  • Dragon Warrior IV probably though Dragon Warrrior III is incredible too it just takes longer to get going.

I adore the first Dragon Warrior though because it was my first RPG ever. Even today I know I could still play it, even if only for the music.

  • i remember turning the game on just to take a nap to the bloody background music >->

i was such a twisted little bastard.

  • Oh and "Thou art dead"

  • My NES collection seemed so obscure sometimes when I hear what everyone else played, but seeing this brought back a ton of memories. Slaughtering slimes and what not was always fun times when I was a kid.

  • Command?

  • A slime draws near!

  • I ended up missing out on this series entirely.... was too young at the time.

  • remember you could get this game free if you subscribed to nintendo power

  • Loved the Dragon Warrior series! Epic

  • Breat game from my childhood. One of the first games that got me into RPG's

  • this game and shadowgate were rpg heaven!

  • This was the 1st RPG I ever played, and I still replay this game on my PSP.

  • This was my first D&D-type rpg, if you don't count simon's quest and legend of zelda, which were more "action rpg's" like secret of mana and chrono trigger.

  • zelda isn' really an rpg. its more of an action adventure game

  • 1:41 to 2:22

  • The Dragon Quest opening theme always gives me goose bumps...

  • i just love the second song, i just love this game. amazing video, its giving me so many memories :S..... thanks

  • This game is amazing...i miss it

  • ok fuckin sweet, I just recorded this into a mp3 track.Cant wait to see how it sounds when I pound my subs in my ride.People will probobly think iam on crack but I dont care, this game rocks and the music too :)

  • I know you posted this comment 4 months ago, but it's still the best thing I've ever heard.

  • @fuentez77 Hell yeah, man! I have no qualms about rocking out to video game music. I recommend Mega Man 2, 3, 6, and 9 as well.

  • @fuentez77 LOL! I love it! That's a good idea man. Blastin some 80's video game music! Good shit

  • @fuentez77 thats awesome...i always bump powerglove in my ride...lol

  • Too bad I didn't understand English when I first played this game. I wish I did. I might feel even stronger nostalgia about playing RPGs when I was like 6. Still, I beat it in the end, classic game.

  • Ooh! I remember this game. I think I had it when I was...uh...10.

  • WOW. I played this game when I was 3 or 4, and didn't know that until just now. I remembered the third song that plays REALLY well, strange for having no clue that I ever heard it. I've never experienced stronger nostalgia than this.

  • Super classic. Great music.

I'm playing DQIV DS right now, amazing!

  • One of my favorites!

  • Bought this game when I was in 3rd grade, didn't what it was. 29 now, and still playing the remakes of all the old titles. Now that I think about it, I don't know how I passed these games when I was in grade school lol.

  • I Love The Song To when You Fight The DragonLord That song is the best The Symphonic Version is relly Good

  • All I rememeber from this game is fighting those slimes, I didn't play it much, though that goes for the first couple of Final Fantasies. I never could get into it enough to play through them.

  • cabronsote

  • Thou hast done well in accquiring thy music.

    Thy experince rises by 12

    Thy gold rises by 132

  • Me and my dad logged a lot of hours on this one.

  • Me, my dad, and mom did, lol

  • Is this supposed to be different from Dragon Quest because they have the same music? Well some of them.

  • Same game, just had a different title for the NA release.

  • Thanks for all of these videogame music videos. Dragon Warrior is an incredible game with incredible music.

  • Yeah, same for me. I got the game for free with a subscription to Nintendo Power. My life hasn't been the same since.

  • like mybunny said, this was the game the got my into rpgs. in my mind it was the first rpg that got everything right. i loved it.

  • fucking awesome the game that got me into rpg's

  • nice ending to the video with the death music on. That was sweet

  • Yeah sort of fitting.
