Sometimes it seems that Tuck is a little stiff when he first gets going but whithin a moment or two he locks up and reminds you how humbling his playing really is.
ay caramba.. this is cool.. I like the original Europa by Carlos and can play it well on my guitar but now I'm gonna have to "try" this technique by Tuck.. cool stuff
Im so glad i had the privilege of seeing tuck and patti live!!!! he did some solo arrangements they were so moving! this has to be my favorite rendition of europa other than the original.
this is perhaps the greatest guitar-playing performance of all time .. I love Isaac Newton I love Carl Gauss I love Charles Darwin ... here's the KEY .. when Hendrix is at his best he is as good or NEARLY AS GOOD as this ... BUT Hendrix is playing his OWN compositions ... I love Tuck .. BUT .. he is no Hendrix ... live a happy life all !
You don't have to talk when you make your guitar communicate like that. You are a gift from God. Thank you for not keeping it to yourself!! Janell in Joplin
Tuck I have seen you play since 1983 and I am always amazed at your gift. Your'e love of the guitar combined with your wonderful kindness is inspiring. This video is awesome, the only thing better is watching you and Patti live.
Goddaaaaaaammn!!!! After 6 six years playing the guitar I can't even do a fuckin percent of what he does!!! It's all about talent and feeling here, the way he masters the tempo is insane...
@BeauJames59 Well I believe that when you have the ability of adapting such a masterpiece that Europa is and make it another masterpiece, like Jeff Buckley did with Hallelujah, well yeah you can talk about pure talent!
This guy went from just playing to strumming to a crazy tempo when he started beating the s#!t out of guitar. And the funny part is that he finished it off with a soothing massage. That was undeniably hot.
@JGPorcello como tan imbecil, si fue carlos quien creo esta bella obra, no comparto tu estupido comentario tratando de esa manera a unos de los mejores guitarristas de todos los tiempos como es santana. el tipo este es bueno, pero eso no te da derecho.
holy fucking shit dude! this shit is rocking my fucking mind!!! Im traveling... to fucking africa. visiting black people. no way. im killing black people. fuck man. im a white guy. holy shit! theres a lot of dead black people. dude. this is the best song fucking ever!!!!!!!!!
I started playing guitar when I was in my teens, miostly rock and blues. Now I'm in my mid 50's this is the kind of wonderful music I'd love to be able to play. My boss thinks I'm mad cos he still plays all the cliche'd rock stuff I rejected years ago.
tommy emmanuel (very entertaining and unreal), martin taylor (very technical and pure jazz), stephen bennett (more similar to Tommy Emmanuel), Chet Atkins is one of the pioneers you should check him out too, if you lik Tuck then also more jazzy guys like joe pass, lenny breau etc......that should keep ye busy!
If there is a better guitarist out there than Tuck, I haven't heard of them. From his voicings to his incredible right hand technique and yet so damn musical. This is art of the highest order. No comparisons are necessary.
All technical abilities aside i hope the mainstream music that is out there on top 40 touches people the way this masterpiece of music does to me. If Jimi, Andy, Petrucci, Vai, Atkins, or (insert player here) takes you away and speaks to you like this song does to me we all win. But as everyone knows you cant look at a painting and say "that one has better paint" or "that artist drew better lines" this is an art form and cant be called scientifically better. (except in opinion)
I heard Tuck & Patti live in Frankfurt Germany a decade ago and he's definitely in my top ten. Along with Mark Knopfler, Joe Pass (who I heard live in Carnegie Hall with Ella Fitzgerald), Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton and others. And of the newer generation, check out Rob Moose.

@gking407 Tuck Andress is the paradoxical reason why the universe exists, because if he we're to travel through time an have a guitar battle with himself he'd win. I doubt if he even needs to travel through time for that now.
I'm sorry, but Jimi is slightly overrated. Tuck could play circles around him. His legend has eclipsed his actual playing ability. Yes, he revolutionized what could be done with electronics, he inspired millions, and he was a great Black crossover artist, but his technical ability and musicianship leave much to be desired.
i totally agree with you that Jimi has become overrated. i think he was an amazing songwriter and yeah, he was good at guitar (emotionally, if not technically), but i still hate it when people rave about him, and the only songs of his that they're heard are the mainstream rock songs, like purple haze or foxy lady.

Amazing. This dude has such a versatile way of playing chords and melodies at the same time. So much concept and chemistry with the instrument. One of my favorites definitively.
Tuck has got to be one of the most talented jazz guitarists of his generation of players - and certainly one who should be MUCH better known and appreciated for his incredible mastery, impeccable taste and beautifully melodic phrasing. I don't know if it's pure marketing and recording contracts or what , but guitarists like Pat Metheny are just so much better known - at least in America. Too bad, Tuck is one of the greats!
Yes, thanks, I've seen Bireli on video. As a guitar player myself, I am always amazed at the skills of some archtop players. They all owe so much to Django and Charlie Christian. There probably hasn't been a more musical player with simply an astonishing feel for those "sweet spots" and dazzling runs than Django. My other all time favorite is Wes "The Man" Montgomery. And just like Django, Wes was such an intuitive player!
Well Pat Metheny deserves his fame. Tuck deserve that kind of recognition as well of course, I'm just saying a better comparison might be made for...uh...Yngwie.
probably the first seminegative comment here, at first I thought he was incredible and he is, but as it progressed it got very cluttered, even missing a few notes and timing got off, sometimes less is more, kinda like el farol by Santana. Not saying this guy couldn't play anything, but Santana knows when not to play which is just as important.
not bein argumentative or whatever but i dunno would he really be goin out of time. guys like tuck just dont make those kind of mistakes. i think hes probably just fuckin around the with the placement of the pulse, which sounds strange in to a set of ears that grew up in the 20th century. that said they're are both great versions, this and the original
I don't think he 'missed' those notes, he was probably just messing around with the feel of the music that he was playing. Plus, this is his interpretation of the song so we can't immediately he missed notes and went off timing on accident.
The notes that you're calling "missed notes" are actually ghost notes. I'm a bass player and a guitarist. Tuck is using the ghost notes to create more rhythm, which alot of bass players do. And for Tuck to play Bass passages as well guitar soloing and playing chord melodies, well....that just says everything. PEACE BRO
People are always talkng about the year of this and the technique of that, but TA is simply amazing and Santana, beautiful quotes tooooooo.............................mv

probably the first seminegative comment here, at first I thought he was incredible and he is, but as it progressed it got very cluttered, even missing a few notes and timing got off, sometimes less is more, kinda like el farol by Santana.

Plus, this is his interpretation of the song so we can't immediately he missed notes and went off timing on accident.

oh just shut up.
criticising is easy. playing is hard.

PEACE BRO
