I saw him in concert here in Ohio about twenty years ago. Amazing talent!

  • this gharana owns yaman hands down...

  • @popncool learn to spell

  • @popncool you should message me. You are obviously ready for the shift

  • What is cooler than a bass sitar? They should so invent a bass zitar. That would be awesome!

  • Surbahar FTW :))

  • Great music as always by Ustad. But title says Yaman Kalyan - Devotional evening raga ! Duh !

  • @sitariya It IS Yaman Kalyan !!!!!!

  • @sujitjp

I know it is yaman kalyan. My comment was about second part. Devotional Evening raga. It is not. It has become fashion specially in the west to call every raga some devotional or spiritual even if you play some romantic raga.

  • @sitariya

What is romantic for one can be interpreted as devotional for another. (Shringar leela). So instead of criticizing the "west" please cultivate an open mind. It is indeed admirable of the west to appreciate and learn a foreign culture.

  • @sitariya very wrong.many of the dhrupad compositions in fact most that i heard are in praise of narayana, shiva and topic is definitely devotional.even romantic songs like aeri ali pia bina are ras lila .

  • Beautuful playing.

  • wah...this is so sweet and soothing...sorry for my ignorance but this question is based on comparing a surbahar to a sitar but the chikari (i think thats how you spell it) doesnt really sound like one on the sitar...is there a reason for that (ie. video quality, how the instrument is supposed to sound, etc)?

  • What an incredible sound. Imrat Khan's meend gives me goosebumps.

  • brilliant, i am currently learning yaman, and it's nice to hear some of the melody's i know played on the subahar as opposed to the sitar, such a deep tone. Once I get better at sitar, I would like to buy one.

  • @Shrutiglawn I feel the same

  • Thanks to cenkjeekhan and youtube that we can see the great mastros right in front of us. Leaving India now, but surely India can be accessed allover the word by youtube, thanks!

  • A raag of the ghandharvas & a rendition by one himself!

  • kya baat hai. no comment can ever do this music, the surbahar, or Ustadji any justice. Thank you for keeping such music alive

  • Mystic !

  • wah!!!ustad!!wah!!

  • brilliant sound... wish i could play any music as well as this.
