You know, I agree with what you said about it being important not to have shallow friends. I had a friend who really thought I was crazy for getting with my current boyfriend purely based on his looks. She didn't take into consideration that I had strong feelings for this person. 2 and a half years later, I'm still with my boyfriend and very happy. She is completely out of my life. She was one of those people who only want to drag you down. So I dumped her. Good riddance. :P

Her friends should more concerned about how happy the new girlfriend makes her and less on her physical appearance. Looks fade when character stays, just sayin. Address it head on, set a precedent now as to what you will except and/or tolerate from your friends. This being her first girlfriend maybe their way of letting her know they aren't as ok with her being gay as they thought. They won't be the first group that reacts this way when you start dating, it makes it a little to real for some.
