  • My girlfriend's love of dogs plus the fact that she's as squeamish as squeamish can get makes this in her mind the worst thing to come out in movie form...

Doesn't stop it from being one of my top 10 movies of all time.

  • Can anyone locate an MP3 the klaxon siren that is going off in the background?

  • im sad cuz of that poor doggy :/

  • MISHKA, NOOO!!!

  • pyro approves this movie

  • if my hell spawned cat was in that pen, that alien would have its ass handed to him

  • this is really disgusting, and it works perfectly. this is why I love non-cgi gore fx's.

  • lol mega bizarre and the old version its much better than the new...

  • haha at the end "you just got f**ed in the a**

  • nice to see captain anderson from mass effect can effectively torch alien scum!

  • 0:45

Close the goddamn door! Im changing here! D:<

  • I bought the four pack of John carpenters Just for the thing.

    Anyone else do this?

  • OMG Quicqly press B to cancel the evolution

  • scooby doo!!! what the fuck happened to you?!!!!!!!!!

  • See kids? That`s what you get if you dont vaccinate your pets!

  • 1:36 What the fuck!?

  • Poor doggies!

  • I hope that was not a real wolf he shot.....no respect any living thing

  • @KenjitheSwift15 If it was they probably would've been sued like hell. Besides the idea of an actor using a real gun on film sounds like the worst idea a film maker could have lol.

  • The noise it makes when it pulls up into the ceiling - sick. It adds something to this crazy scene. Love this film...

  • There is something about the CGI in the new one that just doesn't have the creepiness of the puppets and stop motion in this.

  • @Joshwoocool Because the dog would be assimilated alive by the Thing

  • @boriska808 I am Sarry to inform you one of my freinds posted that comment,I just removed it,and I changed my password and yelled at my freinds :P

  • @Joshwoocool Because like boriska says, they were being assimilated. He did it to end their pain and suffering. This scene angers me because of the fucking Thing attacking the dogs and how helpless they are.

  • they shoulve than something that at the remake.

  • This is real filmmaking.. Today film makers just use cgi cuz they are lazy

  • @thebayareapimp It's real movie making, but so is CGI, try to draw an original, awesome, really cool alien/monster/creature, the CGI movie directors have their prop/CGI people do this, there's no REAL difference.

  • John Carpenter had 2 great movies, Halloween and The Thing both my #1 favorite horror movies of all time! He sure knows how to direct movies.

  • @TheDailyCraft287 ..you forgot the prince of darkness 1987.

  • @DragonlordXV OH Yea! =]

  • Now thats Gore

  • kills humans:

kills dog: :fu: the director needs to die now!!!

  • @namanamastei Sad but true, you can kill half of the people in the world in a movie or a game(Call of duty, for example), but if a dog, cat or a child die in a horror movie-game, everybody wants to stone the creators.

  • if this could be done in 1982 then they could do this in our time and not use CGI like the 2011 version wich made it nowhere near as good

  • @x2boys it was still terrific though, but not as nostalgic.

  • Stan Winston at his best.

  • John Carpenter would've used CGI had the technology been readily available in 1982 no question about it. In fact ALL the top directors would have used it.Ghostbusters, ET,the Indiana Jones movies, The Empire Strikes Back & The Return Of the Jedi, even period dramas like The Untouchables would have benefitted.

  • Why is Justin Bieber in this movie?

  • @TheMartijn45 so he could be killed off.

  • " among the most elaborate, nauseating, and horrifying sights yet achieved by Hollywood’s new generation of visual magicians "

    - Film critic Roger Ebert -

  • Dayum nature. You scary.

  • 2:07 Crew member's head behind The Thing.

  • @ultran33b look at 2:09 the kennel is empty.

  • @StreakyTheFurry It was a cut, retard.

  • This scared the hell out of me when i was younger. But damn was it a good movie.I would watch it again if i could find it

  • I remember watching this as a little kid, Scariest film i had ever seen!

  • Where do the hands come from ??

  • All I can say is that putting this in HD only made it's awesomeness go x 1000.

and Rob Bottin (who also did The Howling) is a bloody GENIUS!

If this movie came out today, it would be the #1 movie in the World probably

and none of us would sleep for the next month. BRILLIANT Carpenter film.

    Well done. = ]

  • @British0Pixie Sott i STILL get creeped out and nightmares about it! It may not be the movie but it the thought of the creature killing and taking over in such a horrid manner. I mean Think about YOUR STILL ALIVE when its eating you...

  • @British0Pixie Yes, they need to go back to the right way of film making and do away with all this cgi bullcrap

  • The thing dont care about the Humane Society.

  • @mOsherfr3ak99 (lol) Sweet. = ]

  • @British0Pixie Totally!

  • @mOsherfr3ak99

Okay, that was rather cute. I do so fancy

Finding Nemo, so 10 Kool Points for you. = ]

    Cheers!

  • @British0Pixie haha thank u very much :)

  • He's a large black man named Childs..

  • now Imma gonna have to watch harry potter & shit so I can sleep again

  • This reminds of Alien

  • @yahoo9317 Because it is Alien DUH!

  • Looks like Lil Wayne.

  • This scene would be on every time i'd walk into my living room while by Dad was watching the movie when I was 9 or 10 years old...freaked me the hell out!

  • this is the reason why i´m afraid of huskey dogs

  • i have always wondered why in the antarctic would they need shotguns?

  • @gotbannedbefore Cold war.

  • @KillerWhales1951 yeah thats what i originally thought but then why would american scientists fight against the russian scientists? but that does make sense, much better than killer penguins or finding "the thing from another world" in the arse end of the planet :P

  • @gotbannedbefore

Well, given the thought that the cold war was more of a tension war, and the Cuban missile crisis, the scientists were outfitted just in case of Russian mobilization in the antarctic to construct possible '' hidden '' bases. Also, a raid could have take place of the base for possible intelligence? The concept is a big one, isn't it?

  • @KillerWhales1951 yeah it is quite for a film about an alien life form killing a bunch of antarctic researchers, it's funny how the mundane points of a film or book or play can lead to a broader back story that is sometimes overlooked. lol

  • @gotbannedbefore Well said.

  • Its funny how I really don't care about the people in this movie, but the dog scene makes me so goddamn sad.

    THOSE POOR DOGGIES

  • They should have had that shot of the flower thing a bit longer, it doesn't really give you a lot of time to notice the details of it being a circle of dog tongues each with a row of teeth.

  • yeahhhhh : filmed in NEW DYNAMATION !!!!!

bohhhhh : i sooo fukken love this incredible effectzs !!!!!!

    i must go woolworth :

maybee i can buy another one ..... ggggggg

  • I said it when I first saw this film and I will say it again: Those poor damn dogs!

  • the wonders of stop motion animatronics. for me, cgi would just ruin the movie.

  • 0:04 - Epic Meal Time...

  • I prefer this to CGI anyday

  • Poor dogs being locked up in there with it

  • Once in a while I wonder "What are scientists in Antarctica doing with so many military grade weapons at their disposal?" Then I remember, "Because John Freaking Carpenter gave them to him that's why."

  • @revolutionarybum0711 Shotguns and flamethrowers are now military grade?

I dunno, them being an outpost in the middle of the Antarctic, flamethrowers and explosives made perfect sense to me. In the novella it was a blowtorch and a weird electrical contraption they jury-rigged, but that's less visually impressive.

  • I'm absolutely sure they based dead space of off this movie(in terms of the alien) CAUSE THERE IS SOME NASTY SHIT ON HERE.

  • i actually think this movie wouldn't be as good with cgi!

  • The Thing is an amalgamation of everything we've feared in the dark, i wonder how the recent prequel was. It can't top the old school effects that were actually their rather than being filled in by cgi

  • It's cool. I didn't need the sleep anyways.

  • @Kalmfox172 I was about to say the same ; Wanted to go to sleep, now these images will remain in my head awhile

  • @hype22m It's funny because I slept like a drugged log that night. X-D

  • i cryed when i saw the dogs TT_TT

  • poor dogs :(

  • dat eye 1:59

  • lol poor THING.

  • lool.... never mind the soothing music at the end, but the previews of the other The Thing clips set to the music :D

  • th scene from 1:35 to 1:45, it clearly shows a dog imitation escaping through the ceiling. And yet i haven't found this to be taken into account into any analisis's i've seen of this movie. The dog thing escapes the kenel and it must have had a role to play in the events that folowed(maybe it infected Blair in the shed?)..(.it might have had something to do with Fuchs death?).I would like to see a detailed analisis of how the escaped dog thing influenced the events.

  • @NlmDth I don't think it escaped through the ceiling, it just grew arms and clung to the ceiling. both Mac and the guy with the flamer were clearly looking up, too.

  • @NlmDth It tried to escape through the ceiling but Childs torched it. This might have something to do with one of the ideas for the assimilation of Bennings. In a scene that was never shot, the dog escapes (probably through the ceiling) and while chasing it, the thing attacks Bennings.

  • @NlmDth It doesnt escape, it is simply climbing onto the ceiling. However, I can understand your confusion, because it does look like its escaping.

  • Watcher The Thing Prequel (2011) - Not even comparable to this masterpiece! Its awsome how todays CGI cant beat 30 years of pure professionalism. Amazing.

  • Scooby Dooby Doo, what the FUCK happened to you?

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up for the black guy who DOESNT die!

  • damn thats some creepy shit

  • bad dog!

  • well my mom made lasagna! gotta go!

  • Comment removed

  • These were the movies that actually were scary, like now all scary movies are either dull with a stupid plot or its just a guy getting tortured for 2 hours.....

  • why do i always watch these kind of things just before i want to go to sleep :/

  • 1:00 DAMN THATS ALOT OF PUSS

  • press 5 to kill the thing

  • 1 for fap

  • I felt bad for the dogs :(

  • @4AJWP Good, then John Carpenter succeeded yet again.

  • @ultran33b that's right man

  • Imagine yourself going to sleep, youve had a shower and you step in front of your bed and move the sheet and YYEEEARRRGHHH at 0:47 BAM IN YOUR FACE!

  • hell, this is even worse than zombies

  • THIS IS SCARY... NO AMOUNT OF CGI CAN BEAT THIS!!!

  • @pornpiroonw actually , it can , if its done well

  • The new one is missing all the disgusting slime that this one has.

  • @mickit15 umm my family saw the new one...and it didnt dissapoint

  • @seanman70 Ok? Has nothing to do with what I said, but whatever.

  • Actually I Confess it scared the shit out of me, and I cant forget the scream and howl of the creature in the kennel!!!

  • I must confess i found this a little scary and tense when i saw this, mostly because it was a dog and not a human! So bloody real to some degree and very effective with the colouring and the shadowy effect. Carpenter said he wanted something that looked as though it was alive and not just a guy in a suite. Well this was it!

  • Greatest horror movie monster since Alien.

  • Muy buena pelicula y un exelente tema

  • The dog-thing looks more real than any other of the things in this film...more organic than the rest of them.(eg the Noris-Thing)!

  • @MyLongestJourney

Actually, I thought the Norris thing looked the most realistic when the camera pans upward toward the ceiling, revealing the whole thing. I mean the way it moved.

Here though, I would agree, the movement and texture is the most organic.

  • a very good intro, it was merciless it was there it didnt care it got data from organic material to reproduce and survive. John was very clever to have come up with this kind of idea and it was developed into ways making it incredibly monstrous, very good at what he did.

  • This movie was the subject of my nightmares for years as a child

  • I was never mad at Mac shooting those dogs. I would NEVER want to be assimilated alive by that thing! Nope! It can eat me in my sleep or kill me first then eat me! But alive and fully conscious?!

    No no no!

  • It's green and pissed.

  • i saw this movie when i was 10 year old in 1989, an i saw this movie again at my 32 years and i feel little scary i fell a pain in my stomach, remembering when i was under the pillows scared to shit... my dad was watching it with all the volumen.... i dont sleep for three days...!!

  • beautifull, the best horror movie ever

  • 1:40 - Live long and prosper.

  • a movie that was ahead of its time...

  • @davycrocketful Definatley

  • oh damn, why did he shoot the husky :'(

  • @JonnycageRulz It was a rubber doll that needed to be killed.

  • I find it funny how some people hate the fact that the Husky is shot in the chest.

BUT THE HUSKY IS BEING TAKEN APART BY THE THING! You can see its got tendrils poking in and around it.

Mac actually did it a favour. If I was being assimilated by the Thing like that, i`d want someone to pop me off as fast as possible!

But it`s a credit to the film makers that they made the doghandler also act emotionally by trying to stop mac shooting even though the Beast from hell was doing worse to the dogs!

  • "It`s weird and pissed off, whatever it is!"

One of the best lines ever! Still waiting for my chance to say it one day.

What makes this work as a horror fim is including the poor dogs being attacked by this monster. The sounds it makes as well are pretty awful, like something out of hell.

  • I am ten and I wasn't scared everyone you are babies!

  • @loveflippy1 That's because you can't get all the paranoïa atmosphere etc... I'd like to explain myself but I don't speak english very well x)

  • @loveflippy1

YOU'RE TOO YOUNG TO BE ON THE INTERNET, BUCKO!

  • Fantastic scene and fantastic movie! Just my opinion.

  • VIEWER NUMBER 47000!!!!!

  • FOR CHRISTS SAKE!! I told you to transition them onto the new kibble slowly Clark!!

  • It's OK, I didn't plan on sleeping tonight anyway.

  • I wonder almost every alien film so why did they have to made a creepy , disgusting things like this ?? why an modern alien, and their modern spaceship won't come like a human being??

  • Comment removed

  • I fucking hate dogs!

  • i like to scream and make weird noises an' shit and it saddens me that, no matter what i do, i will never be as badass and metal as this dogmonster. hell, nothing on EARTH is as badass as the dog monster.

  • i love how no one notices palmer quite femine walk at 0:08

  • OMG POOR HUSKY SHOT IN THE CHEST

  • 2:13 I lol'd how it was showing the most epic scene and all of the sudden peaceful elevator music started playing lol

  • 2:06 you can see the effects crewperson's head behind the thing. :)

  • at first i thought "oh those poor huskies!" but then i remembered it was just a movie.

  • 0:46 it wasn't a Dog it was the thing it tried to suck and turn into a dog but it was disturbed and started attacking people JUST WATCH THE MOVIE PEOPLE IT HAS PLOT! 5/5

  • The Makeup and live set animatronic effects in this movie are some of the most incredible ever produced. This film still scares the crap out of me....

  • I won't be worried about the thieves anymore if I have that dog.

  • Big Bubba.........1:54

Scared the shit outta me at 16...nightmares.

  • No dogs were harmed in the making of this movie. They were all Things in disguise

  • probobly the best non-CG effects ever personally i think this looks better then most CG

  • @DerpRolled I agree, especially the shit in the recent prequel. THAT was embarrassing

  • @DerpRolled I couldnt agree more no CGI could make effect as realistic as these are. Except lord of the rings that was best CGI i ever saw.

  • When i first saw this scene.I shat 18 castles and couldnt look at huskys.

  • @ridely700 BUT HUSKYS ARE BEAUTIFUL! There my favorite breed other than shar-peis. *watches video*...oh...o_O

  • I think I justed puked up in my mouth multiple times again and again!!!

  • 'BURN IT'

  • WHEN WILL THEY FUCKING LEARN, FIRE ISNT GONNA KILL THIS THING.

  • @10DegreesBelow Actually fire is the only thing that can kill it

  • @10DegreesBelow Maybe not but would you rather bake it a cup-cake as a peace offering? I'd choose napalm.

  • *Looks at title* gee, YA THINK?!?!?
