  • GODDAMMIT google why'd u have to buy bumptop?! GOOGLE SUCKS.

  • i like the way he laughs...:D khe khe khe khe khe....

  • Google bought them. I bet googles gonna make a tv or tablet built with bumptop

  • @Legokink1 yea, well theyre holding back cause i could be using it now, and if i could write a program like it i would. i think the personalbrain interface is cool too. i have no idea what moron would have used such a creative technology to make such a lame interface, oh yea the cia would. lol.

  • Anand Agarawala: Let me move a file

Audience: HA HA HA HA HA!!!

  • Thumbs up for Andy Warhol

  • Hi! Future here, no this was/still is crap

  • Was the audience instructed to laugh like lunatics throughout the demo?! I'm totally baffled by that. It seems totally incongruent with what's being demonstrated.

  • Never shared,,, until BMW wants to advertise to you.

  • Dude, that would piss me offf!

  • seems kind of a crappy interface to me

  • I LOL'D When he was throwing the big file at the little ones! :D

  • really amazing....................

  • The bumptop project is stopped and discontinued.

  • Well. It looks really AWESOME........ BUT how does it handle in the daily life? I have to tidy up my flat, now I have to do that on my pc as well? Does it really reduce the work, the user has to do or does it make work.

I'm the opinion, this tool makes work, instead of saving my time.

  • that is so cool

  • I love using Bumptop. I don't use folders on my desktop anymore because I love piles so much.

  • you can't make shells anymore

  • Interesting how the audience laughs throughout the demonstration. Do they think it's a joke?

  • @AustralianBushman i think they're laughing cuz it's cute.

  • As an average pc-user who feels the same way as the speaker when looking at a one-dimensional desktop, I really enjoyed BumpTop. I don't have a lot of softwares and programs as my line of work doesn't demand those, so it really doesn't slow my pc down. I have it for a year or so now and I just love my desk(top)!

  • i have it, its actually pretty fun

  • hi

how did you get this bump-top thing.

    thanks

  • NO.

    Just take the blue pill..

And you wake up having the perfectly fine desktop you have now..

    You want toys?

Get them. Forget this. This is a baaaad toy.

  • i totally agree.. :D

  • fuckin lol take the blue pill

  • Great idea for a master's thesis but inventing $1 million dollars to the technology is a big waste. Bumptop tech just adds a little fun to your computer daily uses. Other than that, what can I get? Will the computer work faster with a heavy graphic demanding application? Will my computer power consumption go down? Will it make CAD programs like Catia and Solidworks work more efficient? Is Bumptop a standalone OS or a plug-in to the conventional OS's like Mac and Windows?

  • It's not for business/heavy user and hardcore gamers. Use common sense

  • It's not good for ANY use :D

  • @tenuke Google thinks different

  • Looks neat but it's not an improvement.

  • boooooooring

  • i have the finished version, but in what he shows you can do mutch more

  • what is the link between a desktop and a BMW?

  • ......or you could just have a desk with a bunch of shit on it.

  • he's cute...

  • So why is this not absolutely useless? How will it help me write essays and make websites faster?

  • Its not made for suckasses like you. So dont use it stupid moron. You go ahead and learn ur essays.

  • That dude has a weird laugh...

  • i already got it.

  • thats great!

maybe a bigger rectangular desk may help :)

  • this is really awesome...

I hope even more better can be produced by Anand AG.

  • Terrible. Just, terrible. I can't even really call this a neat gimmick. It's basically a 2D desktop but messier, uglier, harder to use, with less functionality and requiring more resources to run.

    I'll keep my low-tech 2D desktop, thanks.

  • this actually is pretty cool if you're stressed at work, it gives it a more fun use, and you can still make it neat, or 2d in a way, by arranging them in order..its great.

  • where do u download it

  • it's great i'm using it

  • where do you download it?

  • they sent me an invite and gave me the download link. and some code thinghy

  • oh, so it must be the beta then.

I put my email down on their website so, I suppose they should be sending me something shortly

  • ya, i have beta 17 but the one they show in the video is cooler

  • ive also got the beta 17 and youre right, you can do alot more in the version that hes showing

  • It's a great concept but it has a bit of a learning curve higher than the average user. The trick is to have a new improved yet still Easy to use interface.

  • btw Im a huge *nix os fan, but I JUST WANT TO HAVE NORMAL DESKTOP COMPUTER. ofcourse let it be shell in there, mac for me is preatty ok because of shell because of utils I like from unix.. but I sick of 2d desktops =/ I can do a 3x faster my actions with keyboard, unstead of clicking, I think it would be really 10x faster JUST to SPEAK

  • I personally like it. why? because I really sick of 2d, sick of beryl and vista 3d effects, with JUST turning desktop, I want real 3d navigation, there was some projects before beryl, it was kind of interesting, but not really comfortable, and it needed tons of ram for it...

  • anyway I a little bit sick of mouse to, because you know it just X and Y.. where Z??? why it can;t be somekind of device which can really do 3d stuff... when does 3d era will come?? when computers will LISTEN to our voice, and whole OS could be handble just by VOICE.

  • utterly pointless

  • Let us all return to the ultimate interface, command line.

  • Yer, thats fine for those of us that can use the command line, how about your average home pc user that need a gui

  • I think we're gonna see alot of physics usage in computers in the future. I mean this desktop is a small step in physics usage in computers, IMO. But its still goood. Physics usage has been getting popular now, you can see them in alot of FPS PC video games.

  • This proves physics are funny

  • I can tell you with 99% certainty that this guy is a mac user...

  • the file management looked like a toy. really you can do all that by making a folder without sacrificing CPU usage. for someone who actually enjoys playing with their desktop this would be neat, but otherwise it would hinder work.

  • ah..no thanks

  • I have no purpose for it whatsoever and it would become really frustrating, BUT I WANT IT ON UBUNTU!!!

  • dude, that's awesome

  • I sort of don't like it. No real purpose.

  • awsome work maan.... keep it up...

  • This is seriously awesome!

  • This combined with the multi-touch interface is probably the future. Well it should be at the least. This is so much more intuitive and corresponds with the way our brain works.

  • When did he give this presentation? Because I have seen at least half of these features demo'ed for Mac OSX Leopard on Apple's website..

Maybe he works for them now?

  • BumpTop has no real innovations in it. It seems like it was designed to be 3D just for the sake of a 3D desktop. It's great if you want to have fun with your desktop, but for me computers are all about work and efficiency. That's why abstract desktops work a lot better.

  • xD awesome just hope ill never get angry when using it coz itll be a mess all over lol unless you can save organized... situations. Dont really see any similarity between secondlife and this though... other then the pie menu lol sl dun even have decent physics. Anyhow, 3d enviorment desktops do exist but are atm quiete the resource hogs. never the less, i seriously love all the new approaches in data management that are being developed now

  • His design reminded me of second life. In the future I don't think we will store information and access it like we do now, with a desktop per ce being the default home location. Imagine storing information in your home in a 3d virtual environment. Then you won't need just a desktop. ;)

  • OK, it looks nice, but would you REALLY use it? given enough files this interface will slow you down by a factor of 10...

the photo example looks neat, but its impractical in real world - if you put lots of photographs (for example 200 shoots from a recent trip) in that cube one can spend 90% of the time fighting with the interface to get one you really want. A simple folder tree + grid display is way faster.

  • Really, by the time this interface gets implemented on a 'global' scale, computers will be at least ten times more powerful than they are today.

This is an interface that is in development. It's area is small because they are developing different ways of interaction, not ways of making it practical.

Things like Microsoft's Surface will come before this. So, really this is the next, next generation of user interface (at least, it seems to be a logical extension of such a touch interface).

  • i would never use, but then i am old school java....

  • That's awesome; that dude's got something that a lot of people will pay for right there.

  • OMG that is sweet!
