I was ~10 years old when this game came out in 1987. Always bugged that wasn't able to finish. At two quarters a game it was expensive! This song has been stuck in my head for years. Finally went and found the game and beat it! What great synergy. Am curious what other music Zuntata and composer Hisayoshi Ogura did. Learned Zuntata composed for a new Darius arcade game. Search for "z-field zuntata" and there's samples on the bands home page (translate it). Pls ping me if you know other sources.
This sounds a lot like the Mega CD version, i still have my old Tectoy MD+MCD and a copy of this game, i believe it was released only in Japan and Brasil.
Oh bullshit. No they don't. Granted, they were the earliest ones in the game and contributed a huge amount but to say they make better games is bullshit. Oh and I hate japs too because they killed my great grandfather. I never met him or knew him but one day i'll get my revenge for my grandpa whom I did know... it fuels my rage against them. The current generation of japs must pay... oh they must pay...
The JAPANESE MAKE BETTER stuff than us you American Loving motherfucker. Games that are made by NON-ASIAN game developers are BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT!!! I don't give rat's ASS if your great grandpa got killed by the Japanese. America DESERVES it for trying to BEAT the JAPANESE AT EVERYTHING. AMERICA Cannot and WILL NOT BEAT JAPAN when it comes to technology. NOT NOW, NOT EVER. Get that through your FUCKING THICK HEAD!
You're japanese aren't you... Figures... You think you're so superior, always willing to die for the emperor like a sheep. Keep dreaming boy. The rising sun has set. Banzai!!!! The current best games are made in europe and america. Ever heard of rockstar games? Hmm? Name me one good current game that's not made for children from a jap company. BTW metal gear 4 sucked.
Just leave me alone. I heard enough. I just want to try to get along with people here on YouTube, but people like you always want to start a fight with me, well I will not allow it.
@ContraCommando No no, I wasn't talking about you. Usually, those kinds of fanboys think those series only matter and all other video games suck. Sorry if you were offended.
I wasn't trying... I was just pointing out how European and American games are superior to Jap games. Maybe 20 years ago they made cool stuff. But those days are over. Stop living in the past. How old is this video anyway? I don't even know what Daddy Mulk is.. what a stupid name for a song.
Lmao, do you even have any idea how few of the Japanese games are known, exported or translated over to the west? Probably about 5%, if not less. And those that make it through are severely remade, usually for the worse.
Japanese games kick ass, while american-made are so bend on commercialism and cenzorship that it's pathetic. Totally empty and boring games rule the western market...
What are you doing here anyway if you're so much against old games? The game and the song for it kick ass.
Fine then name a few... The only decent games I can think of are RE5 and Demon's Souls. Don't bother mentioning some obscure fanboy DS game because I don't care!
Well, it is true on some points. Non Asian developers are good at a certain genre, such as FPS's, and driving games. Hell, even I like a few games made by Non-Asian companies. I was just mostly focusing on the licensed games based off of our franchises such as cartoons, movies, toy, and comic book franchises. All I am saying is that if we learn from the Japanese with the games they created, Non Asian developers can make great games, and they do, its just they have a while to catch up to them.
I think the japanese do have some distinct "flavors" that are very unique and appealing. Their creativity is boundless and their influence is obviously apparent in popular culture. Currently though, I think japan has alot to catch up with in terms of technical capabilities because from my perspective they're falling behind.
@bigsmatchy At least this criticism of yours is much better than just running around going "jap games sux lololol" without any initial reasoning. Also, if RE5 and Demons Souls are your only examples, you're too new-school to know anything about Japanese games.
agreed. I want to someday make video games, and as a Canadian they'd obviously be Western games, but they certainly will not be Western style games. They will be very Japanese flavoured, y'know? Because those are the only games I like, for the the most part. ;D I'm glad to find somebody who agrees exactly, it is very refreshing.
Thank you. I am glad you agree. I am exactly the same way. I love Japanese made games more than games made by Non-Asian game developers but there are some games made by Non-Asian developers that I like. Grand Theft Auto, GUN, and Manhunt are just 3 examples.
Maybe I'd like GUN, since I love Cowboys, but I didn't like the other two much... It doesn't bother me though, really. I still like Half-Life and stuff.
@pauladenisefatagnus And it's a damn shame I never got to experience Ninja Warriors in my childhood. First I thought it was just the SNES, but it turns out that the series(?) spans a LOT of stuff. All I can say is that this music, even if it's not in the SNES version, it classy and fitting.
@dave55811 Yes, this zuntata soundtrack was first in the taito's single / triple screen coin-op version and a bit later on also on amiga (maybe not ingame, not sure, but at least for the game loading intro). I guess the 520 st version had it as well but not sure too. Rocking cyborg-ninjas robots... :) This soundtrack is definitely part of the game. Without it, I would have feel playing half of it.
That's why coin-op systems where ahead sometime. Running with original samples, the game was more what we wanted. The amiga music version was not bad too, Check out SST as well, after burner, outrun...

I would listen to John Williams without Star Wars but not Star Wars without John Williams. The movie would not have been nearly as successful without him (and the sound fx crew ) and nor would this game without Hisayoshi Ogura and Zuntata.
@speakandhum Really sorry my answer appeared that way to you. I was initially answering someone giving all the tribute to Zuntata for Daddy Mulk, apparently not knowing about Ninja Warriors, the primary reason for me to end up in this page. It was an awesome co-operation between both talented teams : Zuntata + Taito. All these teams deserve to be famous even without those cool co-operations, no doubts at all. Be sure I am very concerned about soundfx, specially computer aided and game oriented.
@speakandhum Sometimes people remove their comment or supress their account and your answer remain alone without sense. I therefore removed mine right away ;oD and in any case you did well to react because I could have find a more elegant / subtil answer for him.

WOW, this song was always my favorite game music theme and to see it performed live, I can't stop smiling! I remember playing alot the game in a local game club on a huge extra wide screen and sometimes just to listen to the music! :D Great stuff!
Best video game song ever to feature a shamisen solo.
(also, props to the 1990 live version actually having a dude play the shamisen, this part was done on keyboard for Zuntata Live 1998. Actually, KEYTAR, which actually gains it some points, but I digress)
