  • Ooh look Lord Bertrum is the very man who plays Emma's father in the Kate Beckinsale?Mark Strong version of Emma...

Bernard Hepton, who was also in a BBC series called 'Secret Army' (Allo Allo was based on it and turned into a comedy series) And also in a fantastic series called 'Colditz' too... What a fabulous actor he is.... :0)x

  • This 1983 VERSION OF Fanny is the closest to the book. She is constantly reminded of her lesser status in the mansion- treated like a handmaid- so she turns out to be a little bit daft as some people have commented. But she is the best version because she emerges as the most ethical of all cousins and acquaintances. She sticks to her guns and finally wins over her Uncle and her Cousin Edward.

  • This Fanny is very silly in this version, indeed. And Frances O´connor, although she did a very good job, her Fanny is way too much modern. Personally, I think the best Fanny is Billie Piper in the last version.

  • Fanny is so silly in this version. An extreme of herself of 1999. So far I haven't seen her character faithfully played anywhere.

  • i think so too!

the book describes her as very shy and incommunicative, while in that version she seems to be ..kinda "loud" and a bit too determined. but still at least that version sticks to the book.

in the 1999 version shes too confident of herself. she seems to be a modern woman of the 21st century rather than jane austen's fanny. worth watching tho.

finally, the 2007-version: here she rly seemed shy but way too happy and too positive.

(my fav version of these 3 tho)

  • This Fanny seems daft, to be honest.

  • So true... daft and awkward...

  • @orliczek4 I agree. All the adaptations seem to fall short of finding a happy medium in portraying her as an honestly humble but downtrodden personage. '99 MP, she feels her abuse keenly and rails at her oppressors; this one she comes off sort of pathetic and silly without the more explanatory narrative Austen provides in the novel.

  • I much prefer this version though it's older than the 1999 one. At least this one is faithful to the original text and characters.

  • Thank you soooo much :)

  • i just wisht he clip was more clear but thanks for posting!
