can u help me? since my stroke i cannot put weight on left arm. pls can u tell me how to get out of my kayak using one arm? now using pole i get pole btwn my legs, sit sideways use pole to pull myself out with good arm/hand. but i trying to learn how to get out without pole and no one holding my boat. weak left arm fr the stroke is my prob. ideas please? thanks karen.
can i just add take some sustenance even if its just a chocolate bar....when im on the water i lose track of time and some times i go a bit dizzy if i have forgotten to eat. great vids by the way...keep them coming.
I enjoy watching information from far off places. Here a whistle or sounding device is the law.
These cute air horns don't work this time of year, its to cold. When you use then they give a dispairing wheeze and fall to silence. They are likely great there.
Spray skirts are required almost everywhere here.
I went for a paddle Saturday but the bay that was calm and ice free last week had frozen over with a 3 or 4 inch skim of salt water ice.
In any expedition, be it sea or land - I ALWAYS take a means of lighting a fire, and I keep in on my person. It doesn't matter how long you plan on being gone, you need to be prepared for the UNPLANNED.
I learned this a few years back while mountain biking. It was supposed to be a short ride, and I got lost. I only had a sweatshirt and shorts on - it got down to 34 degrees F that night and I had mild hypothermia. I got lucky.

Here you have to carry a sounding device ( a whistle ) I normally take a spare paddle as well.
I carry a serious ditch kit but most have no need for the stuff I carry. I rarely do but when I do need it I need it badly and right now.
I would add a whistle and spare paddle to the list; I have snapped off three paddles.
