  • is that a small peacock bass??

  • @ruckaisawesome

I was thinking it was a perch, but it could be.

  • if u payed attention u stepped on the snake

  • i love my watersnake :D 3 anda half foot female northern :D willow will not eat mice , wish i could get her some frog in with the fish so i can rest assured shes eating a proper diet

  • Finally! Someone else besides me who 1) knows that wild water snakes are not always nasty. and 2) they will eat right out of your hands moments after capture. I've done it myself! If the snake had been captured WHILE feeding, it surely would have spit the fish out in fright. They also like to regurgitate their stomach contents and poop on you :) I own many water snakes and garter snakes. Garter snakes will also eat out of your hands after being picked up, especially if you offer an amphibian!

  • Thank you for confirming my claims. I can understand people being hesitate to believe B.S, but I didn't think this concept was going to be that difficult of a sell. I love watersnakes, they are by far my favorite snake species. And you are correct, if I had captured that snake while it was eating it would have spit that fish right out. But if you catch them, gentle like, and offer them food, nearly every one I've tried it on, will accept dead fish right from your hand. Which is darn cool!

  • @jupy921 finally i can find a herper that lives in maine like myself

  • @aSnakeLovinBabe is there a way to stop garter snakes from spraying their musk, i want to capture one and feed it mice but they smell sooo bad when they spray

  • @deathfrets no there is no way to stop a snake from musking you. If you really want a friendly garter snake, go buy a captive bred one. They are commonly available in the hobby and are much less inclined to musk you. Most of them will not eat mice right out of the wild, their natural diet includes worms, fish, tadpoles and frogs.

  • Interesting video. I rescued one of these snakes from our pool skimmer at the end of this last summer.

Very small one, probably not 8" in length, I'd never seen one before and actually thought it was a moccasin, they've got stocky bodies as well.

Last time I saw it, it was heading out under the fence for the woods.

  • People often mistake these for water moccasins, and they do live in the same areas and look a bit alike. It would benefit the watersnake to look like a moccasin, and critters would tend to avoid that. I give you kudos for saving the little guy, too many people think the only good snake is a dead snake, and that is just sad.

  • all i see is a guy that found a already eating water snake and grabbed him and the fish and called it hand feeding. if you recorded the capture and the snake voluntarily taking the fish from you than i'd believe it but until than i don't.

  • I can assure you, this snake was captured swimming, and was not feeding. I have done this many time with WaterSnakes, and have viewed other videos of other people doing the same thing. These snakes are quite bold when it comes to feeding. But I do understand your hesitation in believing this. I give you my word that is what happened. I gain nothing by being untruthful here.

  • i see what your saying but i'd like to see a video of the capture and him voluntarily taking the fish. next time you make a video like this please get the whole thing on camera. i'd like to see that.

  • I will do exactly that; but I live in Maine and the watersnakes will not be active again until mid June or July. But stay tuned and I'll an unedited example; cause it is pretty darn cool

  • alright. i'll sub and keep me updated.

  • Thanks :)

  • When you say "hand feeding a wild water snake a dead fish", do you really mean "assisting a wild water snake to eat a fish it's caught already"? Just kidding. But it would've been nice to have seen a little earlier into this spectacle where you enticed the snake out with the dead fish! Not sure how you could do that you see! ;-) Nice film anyway!

  • I didn't entice the little fellow; I captured her, and then held her down against her will and upon dangling the fish in front of her, she forgot about being held captive and ate it. Watersnakes are the only snakes I know of, that you can do this with. Thanks for the comment.

  • No I caught it, and then carried it up over the dam, and then fed it a fish we have caught earlier. Next year I will do this again. The snake in this video did not catch this fish, it was caught on a pole, the snake was captured just moments before being fed this fish. But hey I can see why people might suspect the snake was found already eating, but that is not the case here. I promise. :)

  • Cool snake..

  • thanks

  • Wow... beautiful colouration this water snake has! Thx for the upload!

  • Yes they are really striking. One of my favorite snakes.
