28B has a regular bow, not the wide bow of the 38B. The 28B, made from 1949 - 1954, predates the 38B and is finished in mostly brass with nickle trim (whereas the 38B is mostly nickle with brass trim). You really have to be a MAN to play that 38B. It is the heaviest ax I've ever played and it produced the bigest, broadest, ballsiest tone I've ever gotten.
@SRV1 One thing players agree on mostly, is that it doesn't play like a small bore horn. Plays very openly. Anyway, I was refering to the weight of the horn held in the hands. I'm not sure if bore size determines weight of the horn. Anyway, I'm a weakling compared to the days I gigged and screamed nightly. So just about any horn gets heavy to me after awhile. And since I've lost chops and endurance, I no longer try horns. Also, I never believed in shelling out thousands for a new modern horn.
Where do I buy a bronze this material? Here in Brazil there is the trumpet, I played yesterday with a brother from my church, he had a igualsinho this. Pretty much the timbre of the trumpet Conn 38B
With many thanks for answer! I continue the experiments. The Instrument to me much likes. I basically play the jazz music and happy such discovery of the balance.
@bondbox1 Congrats! Make sure its valves are in good alignment to get the most out of its sound. Mine sucked when I first took it out of its case after 25 years. After a precision valve alignment (PVA) at Bob Reeves (see his website), my 38B *sings* again. I've bought some newer horns in the past 2 years, but nothing sounds or feels as good as my 38B. They don't make 'em like they used to! Have fun with your 38B!
@1964Connstellation oh my a 200.00 felt and cork job! emmmm emmm thats about all you can do short of new valve guides and they are cheap too . Reeves kristttt.
Search CONN LOYALIST. Their website has an incredible amount of information on all Conn brass instruments. For now, the 36B has a 4-5/8" bell whereas the 38B has a 5-1/8" bell. Based on popularity alone, the 38B appears to be the preferred model.
@jerec576 That website does contains a lot of info on all Conns, incl. the Connstellations. But, you can go to a website lipshurt dot com to find some info on the diffs vs. the 38B and 36B (youtube won't let me post actual link, sorry).
hdizzyg, the beginning of this video names a bunch of jazz greats who played/play this horn. Depending on your mouthpiece, it can play with a nice, rich, dark tone great for some jazz settings, but you can also open up the upper register and it's a great lead trumpet. Pre-1970s are considered the best; the older the better is usually the common belief. But, I hear that Blue Mitchell is playing a Martin Committee on this recording = another great jazz trumpet.

Hi and nice video!
I've never tried a Connstellation, if anyone can give me some impressions about it.
I'm a big fan of Chet Baker and I know he played it in the 80's... but I love Clifford Brown too (and he played a Conn too I think).
And who is the player on the soundtrack? Nice tone!
bye

The song is called "I'll Close My Eyes." This recording, I believe, is from Blue Mitchell's album "Blue's Moods" according to another trumpet player.

I guess you really LOVE the Connstellation? :-) I have a 38B and, yes, it is something very special.
