@pg1024 I believe what you mean by jumper is silver carp. They are one of three types of asian carp which are bigheads, silvers, and grass carp. The silvers are the ones famous for jumping out of the water and injuring boaters. The bigheads are the real monsters, which can grow to up to 80lbs. Silvers usually grow to about 30lbs.

They are from China, and here in Canada they are only stocked as triploids (extra set of chromosomes, Sterile fish). they are mainly used for private ponds, and canals and algae-blooming public ponds. Removal of vegetation is what they are designed to do, and they do their job well. Simple as that.

Being that there are not many natural predators of these breeds, an astounding number of those eggs produce a fish that makes it to adulthood. On top of that, the bighead and silver (jumper) are filter feeders, so along with the the grass carp, they are eliminating LOADS of food source for native breeds.
