Now I KNOW you did not just insult GTA4! The story mode is just that: STORY. They never said there was going to be online co-op, they said there would be online MULTIPLAYER. The story was amazing, you're just not into story from what I can see. ODST...meh, worth it I guess, but it bored the hell out of me really fast.
