  • Really helpful! But the horse I work with lifts his feet up for a few seconds before throwing it about and running around, even if he's tied up- I try really hard to keep hold his hoof but he's really strong and I can never hold on to it for long. Any tips?

  • Thanks!! I am just learning and this helped me allot

  • Dont forget people never grab, squeeze, yank or pull on the back of a horses leg where his tendons and ligiments are positioned directly behind the cannon bone. These structures can easily be damaged causing months of layups.

You can also teach a horse to lift his leg by squeezing on their chestnuts or by scratching on the front of their cannon bone with your fingertips. If you use a simple voice command each time, the horse will learn to lift each leg with that command and a slight touch.

  • hey i got a horse that hates her back feet picked up got and tricks nothings wrong with them she dos want to do it?????

  • message me if you still have the problem

  • I have the same problem. My mare hates her back hooves being picked up. And she'll fight ya for them too. I hate fighting her to pick them out. I usually get hurt

  • Wow thanks this is really helpful!
