@christthi like I said the comparison was to having gnarly fucking weather and dark folklore stories. The québécois language is extremely different than french from France. Most of the expressions French people make fun of us for using are from the colonial days because the language has evolved, especially in Paris. Québéc's people came there 400 years ago man. If you ever went you would see how the vast majority of names are french. They did spread a lot and obviously in montreal there are
@philtyphil so many different cultures. But most québécois like Gauthier, Bouchard, etc are of straight French descent in the end and that was from la Nouvelle France.
@christthi i'm from gatineau, quebec dumb shit, you clearly know absolutely nothing about it. Québec's culture is not as old as Norway's obviously, but Samuel de Champlain arrived in 1608. the ancestry is obviously more homogeneous than elsewhere in the continent, seeing how language limits them to that particular region. the comparison with Norway was having folklore stories, many coming from French and changing over generations, often with the natives, as well as the dark, brutal cold weather.
I think black metal suits Québec because of the folk connotations it has. The québécois culture is very old with a lot of folklore stories, kind of like Norway. The separatist aspect also adds to the ambience.
@mezmero69 The roots of the black metal are from scandinavia but a lot of its branches come from other places. Music was never about where it's from. BM has grown, the difference between most scandinavian black metal and the one from other countries is that there was more melody added to it and more talent. Music that is able to do more than sounding filthy and grim/racist. That is able to express deeper things. France and Quebec has a solid black metal scene, u should be more proud of France
Huh. Not bad.

Always plaisant to hear new stuff, but Black metal still belongs to scandinavia ;)
mezmero69 1 year ago
which is why nothing truly innovative or interesting within the genre has come from there in the last decade ?

@blackmetalblunt Agreed! to hell with all this elitist thought that disregards anything that isn't from Scandinavia, the music speaks for itself.
