For those who are worried about hellfire, doesn't God's all perfect love cast out all fear? Does God actually mean what He says? Keep your own intimacy with the Lord in check and you will not have to worry or fall away. As for Todd's "devilish" laugh... see Luke 6:23. Be a people of GREAT JOY!!! Do not be too quick to judge ANYONE, whether you believe him to be your brother or not. Re-new your minds, as Jesus said, by stepping into the mysteries of God. Don't mock what you have yet to see. LOVE!
Acts 13:52 if people say that holy laughter does not exist, what does being filled with joy look like to you? The Bible does not describe what it should look like. However, I doubt very much if this is the Holy Spirit here touching mr Bentley as it sounds fake and all I see in these meetings is like one great deception and copying of the real thing to lead people away from God. A lot of questionable and unbiblical things are happening. Signs and wonders are great but only if they're from God.
So, you're saying that Paul and Barnabas, after having the gospel rejected by those in the area and having to shake the dust off their feet against these people were LAUGHING? Not a convincing argument.
I don't see your problem. I have experienced it myself that in diffcult times with people attacking me I was filled with joy. It is not human and it is not normal human behavior. But little is to be figured out by human reasoning for us. God is higher than our thoughts. Through our relationship with Him we can be very happy when other people around donot see one reason for us to be happy. The Bible is full of stories of people being happy in the middle of bad circumstance. Fruit of the Spirit.
Apparently you don't see the problem because you don't study the scriptures. Joy in the face of adverse circumstances is to be expected when our focus is on Christ and His grace/love for us. Happiness is based on our circumstances - Joy is much deeper. Happiness is an emotion, Joy is a spiritual state of being and a fruit of the spirit, transcending our circumstances. Hapiness is NOT a fruit of the Spirit. Either is laughter. There's no Biblical basis for "holy laughter." None.
Now this is interesting as I always learnt that it is the other way around and that happiness is deeper than joy. Well whatever, if you donot believe that being full of the joy of the Lord can make you laugh, so be it. I do and I do not see any scripture telling me it can't. And if you choose to judge me again that I don't study the scriptures, well, go ahead. God bless.
I had a good Bible teacher that said "happiness depends on happenings, joy depends on Jesus." His point is that you can have joy through difficult circumstances, as you see throughout scripture. Happiness is fleeting, depending on what happens to us.
It's not so much about WHAT happens to us, as it is how we react to what happens. ANYONE can be happy if they're perfectly healthy, wealthy, and life is "perfect" - Jesus helps us to overcome.
If he would go read his bible instead of talking to "angels" so much, he would be able to rightly discern rather they are holy or demonic... obviously from his teachings, he doesn't read his bible at all. Healings isn't what brings a revival, but its the preaching of the gospel that has the power to transform lives. There is no gospel being taught by this man, infact his teaching is more on fire, angels & healings. People are seeking after signs and wonders, and not for the righteousness of God.
I havent seen the word holy laughter, or slain in the spirit, or drunk in the spirit or actualy the word rapture or trinity. So I guess None of it is can happen since its not mentioned. Look, my point is I wont say it can happen or cant simply because we dont see it there. I AM though open to it, IF and only IF it is truly from God. Lets not judge so quickly. People will use ways to prove the trinity and I agree with it, but they can also with the holy laughter. So any thoughts?
While the word Trinity doesn't appear in the Bible, the concept is clearly taught. "Holy laughter" is neither referenced nor taught anywhere in the scripture. The Word talks about worship being done decently and in order. Also, we're told in the Word that God his given us a spirt of love, discipline, and a sound mind. Does this sound like Bentley?
I agree with you and the trinity, that the concept is clearly thought. Agree also that God gave us a spirit of love, dicipline and sound mind. But still plenty of Christians are in the PROCESS to loving more, being more discipline and learning to have and act as the spirit does with a sound mind. God gave us The spirit that has those qualities, it doesnt mean that when we get it, magicaly we are that in an instant. Its a PROCESS. Im sure you as well as I have fallen short on these, in our walk.
This post makes almost no sense at all. We are in a process of growing as we mature as Christians, but losing control in fits of supposed "holy laughter" or being "drunk in the spirit" doesn't fit with being of sound mind and disciplined.
Lissen again, I dont find scripture to support "holy laughter" and I find it contratry to scripture to be "drunk in the spirit" BUT Plenty of people in the bible were looked at as nuts, or as IF they were drunk when they were worshiping God. So they must have been doind SOMETHING ODD, For them to accuse them of that. AGAIN, I DONT support this guy, Im just saying that I have him in prayer, and I am open to WHATEVER the spirit has for me even if it seems nuts to others.I DO rather stick to scrip.
The reason the Pharisees accused Jesus of being drunk wasn't because he was stumbling around ACTING as if He were drunk - it was because He didn't completely abstain, they were threatened by His authority, and they wanted to throw whatever they could at Him to detract from His message.
It's good to keep an open mind - just make sure that whatever they teach is backed up by scripture - the final authority.
I was not talking about Jesus, but the other apostles. You are 100% correct that it must be backed up by scripture. This is what raises my eye brow at not only him but these movements of laughter, drunk, and slain. Cant find STRONG CLEAR evidence in scripture. So although I am open, I ask The Holy Spirit to guide me into the truth and it need to be HIM that knocks me out, makes me laugh, or have me go "in the peace of the Lord". God Bless.
Todd Bentley is experiencing holy laughter. This is not a unique phenomenon in the Body of Christ. In fact, it was given to the Church in Lakeland, FL, in 1993. Since then, it has been quite common!
For someone claiming that you study the scriptures better than I do without you knowing me, I think you overlooked one that says in Matt. 5:22 "whoever calls his brother a fool shall be in danger of hellfire" You better be very sure that Todd Bentley is not your brother being deceived but working knowingly and willingly for the devil or else you should not say something like this.
I don't know what post you're referring to, ostark, so it's difficult to respond.
I've not said anyone is a fool, though I'm not worried about being in danger of hellfire, since I'm redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
As I've said many times, I don't know if Bentley is a deceiver or if he's deceived. Either way, he should be stopped from fooling people. I do what little I can do on youtube to tell the truth, so he won't suck others in.
