I quite like this sport, I just don't get why they call it football when you barely kick (punt) at all. I'm aussie btw so please enlighten me.

Also it seems to me that if there with no padding the tackles would be a lot softer due to there being higher chance of injury i.e the player will not try to tackle as hard.

I asume that if you played 'football' without pads the tackle would be softer.

Coming from an aussie rules background where there is no padding, it looks strange to use it.
