The 116th Panzer was far from being elite. The 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th were all much better and considered elite due to their combat records. The 116th was nothing special.
@117Jorn That Tiger was probably broken-down. Tigers had 26,000 different parts. it was poorly designed and poorly-built. They often broke down. Also, they were so heavy (56 tons) that they tore up the lousy secondary roads in the battle area, and were too heavy to cross most of the bridges. Once American tankers had a few weeks experience against the Germans, they learned to use the Sherman's greater speed to out-flank the Germans and hit them in the side and rear.
@rdx506 Heh tell that to the Sherman tanker's who died so another Sherman could get behind the Tiger. Remember the saying that a Tiger could take 4 Sherman's on at once but there was always a 5th.
@fockwolf189 i thought about that too. the shell that came in wasnt from the tiger or one of the panthers but from any other tank or gun. i think they really slept and woke up when the sherman fired at them so they coudnt do anything.
@fockwolf189 lolol.. its either they were asleep or too busy laughing at the sherman shooting at their tank.. or maybe the gunner himself was rolling on the turret floor laughing away..
It could've possible be so that they thought it was a captured Sherman. The germans did capture a lot of equipment and if it was one single sherman completely alone that might've been the reason that they didn't fire.
Both had their advantages. The tiger was unmatched at range. It's 88mm gun could peirce the armor even of the allied heavy tanks with impunity. However, it was slow, the heavily armored turret meant that it was only really good at the ranged duel. The panther had speed, and maneuverability. It outclassed any allied tank in every catagory and was an excellent ranged weapon as well as close quarters because it had an automated turret (in the later versions).
not at all. The Panther was Better, Faster, Lighter, had a Better all round Main Gun, and was Feared more then the tiger since it outnumbers the Tiger 6/1. The Panther is also the Best Tank of the Second world war, and even well into the early 1960'ies.
@ThePanzerWarMachine Well the Tiger was far more better equiped, better armed, and its Turret was far more powerful. And for the research I have done, and for what the Military Channel has said, the TIger Tank was much more feared. Also, the T-34 is supposed to be the best tank of WWII, because of its sloped armored which its the first of its kind, and its huge number, easily outnumbering the German Panzers, made it much better than any American, or German.
@oortiz915 As you said, The tiger was the Most feared tank ever. (still is). But the Panther's Stats are Equal, and the Panther out classed the Tiger on allmost levels?. The T-34 is an Excellant vehicle. Yet it doesn't have a good gun, the tank is seriously basic and is a thread to it's own crew. The Panther made an 16/1 Kill to death Ratio against the T-34 on the Eastern Front. And that counts!
@ThePanzerWarMachine I think we can agree that the Germany built the most powerful tanks, but their small numbers were no match against the Americans, and Soviet Union.
Well I guess you have noticed for how much I have defended the Tiger, but the Tiger Tank is my favorite tank of WWII (which is the only think I like about their Facist regime), then the T-34.
@ThePanzerWarMachine What the he you taking. This is calling M1 Patton better than M1 Abrams. Tiger were built very few cause of there complex design. Panzers were there man Tank cause they were easy to built.
@MrRajan11222533 what panzers - you dolt! Panzer I Panzer II Panzer III Panzer IV Panzer V - be more specific. Anyway the mark 4s (yes write this down) were the man (sic) tank because they had more mobility and there were more to start with. Also the cost was a hell of a lot cheaper.
the panther was far superior to the tiger. The high velocity gun on the panther actually had better than the 88mm gun on the tiger which was mainly just a converted flak gun. The tigers size and armor made it great for defensive war against the hoards of russian and american tanks. But anytime you attempted to use the tigers in an offensive attack they broke down every few hours, they were not very fast, they could not handle rough terrain. The panther was a true versatile tank.
