I think it's fucked up that the moral of this story is that this beautiful (even bald) young child needs a 3500 dollar wig to feel she can be worthy of being accepted by a cruel world that places so much emphasis on outward beauty. It's sad that she can't be accepted until she gets a wig. What if her entire face was burned off? What then? Should they have completely written her off? I'm glad for her wig but I'm disgusted with society.
she's a beautiful girl and I think it's a good thing she was only 2.5 months old when she was burned. at least she doesnt remember the horrific pain. Unfortunately, it also means she's had to struggle with this almost her entire life.
Brittany's smile is just as beautiful without the wig!!! I hope she enjoys the new look anyhow. We all should have the chance to experiment with different looks.
Britney, I understand you want to feel good about yourself and that's great - nothing wrong with that. But someday you may want to ask yourself what kind of people would want to be your friends only because you have a head of hair. Just remember - you're beautiful as is!
@norwegcat Well said! I think it's sad that this beautiful child will now happily become friends with the same creeps who laughed at her when she had no hair. A true friend will love her for herself, despite any deformity. This is a feel good story with little substance. It's great she got her wig and doesn't have to feel so self conscious but it proves something very disgusting about society, that we need to be beautiful to be accepted by the "normal" people.
@lamagrank Wigs are REALLY expensive-like thousands of dollars expensive. They had to pay for all those medical bills as well as well as her not having a father. To that day they still couldn't afford it-it was done free of charge.
Unfortunately, society creates a situation where she has to feel ugly. Otherwise, what kind of consumers would we be if we were actually satisfied with ourselves?
@xxxriotxxx EXACTLY! Society is waaay too focused on surgery (not that it shouldn't be done where possible) for burn victims: it's made to be the only option. What about people who can't have anything done to help their burns? Do they just have to live "ugly"? Why can't someone launch a beauty/fashion magazine using victims with scars of this sort? Why is society so obsessed with perfection?
With tufts of hair on the back and right side of her scalp, why doesn't she just go to "Bosley Medical Center?"
"Bosley Medical Center" helps people who want their hair back by using "graft transplants"- the patient's own hair is taken from the scalp and reimplanted into the bald part(s) of the head, which keeps growing back!
Most of the technology, which evolved in our world, is not being used in a smart way!
@anatheistmyself because that skin on her head isn't made to grow hair, it's grafted from another part of body that wasn't effected or a donor. it's just there so that she doesn't have to walk around with ugly burns on her scalp.
you don't need it sweetheart you come to learn that people can be shallow and the only ones worth knowing are the ones that like you no matter how you look. if it makes you feel better, thats all good. but i hope you find true friends in your life.
It sort of seems mocking to play that "i feel pretty" its really....condescending? I can't think of the word I need here..but it feels weird to play that
Though I am truly glad that this girl can have the possibility of being happy again. what about the other burn victims......? fuck this society for placing so got damn importance on the flesh. we all look the same underneath be it ugly or pretty.....
@Bralidiroe Exactly! The answer shouldn't be a wig or cosmetic reconstruction (I'm not saying not to have those at all) it should be a change in the way people view beauty. What's the point in being blessed with life over death when you are thrust into a world that think's you are second class because you are burned? Could society put this girl on the cover of a magazine without her wig? It should, and the day it does we'll know we've changed for the better.
brainzrgood4u SHUT THE MOTHER FUCK UP YOU STUPID MONTHER FUCKER SHE IS LIKE A NORMAL GIRL YOU ARE A STUPID PIG GET THE FUCK OUT DONT COME HERE A AGAIN
Oh, stop your whining. There was nothing wrong with her to begin with. It's the people who looked down on her who should be punished. God let that happen to her for a reason. Now she'll never know what that reason was. So don't look down on me, you self righteous bitch.
you fucking bitch god didnt do that she it just happend to her dont be going oh she aint gonna learn anything but now she looks normal we should burn you on a stick
It may have touched your heart, but I'll always be the one touching your pee pee. By the way, that is the most ugly mother fucking girl I've ever seebn. Get that bitch a wig!
It is kind of ironic, however, that when she returned back to her friends and classmates, that they treat her normal only after she looks like everyone else with her hair.
So all the peddlers, homeless people, retail scammers, east coast assholes and guidos got to her, eh? I'm glad she can remain so positive among such adversity!
wow - that's really great - i feel so happy for her now... if i was one of her classmates, I would be one of her friends weather she had hair or not...the beauty of a person comes from the inside, not from the outside...(well, maybe a little. But that's not all the beauty in a person...)
In school I was a kid who never belonged to a specific clique because I had more than one "label" (I was a shy-artistic-jockette). So looking back, knowing what I was like at this girl's age, I would've been her friend hair or no hair. I wasn't about to let anyone tell me who my friends could be. And if they tried, they got told off big time!
I was confident and had a good reputation (still am & still do, can you say the same about yourself?)...two things that perhaps you know very little about? :o)
I agree. But in all fairness to them, sometimes they react to something like this out of shock and fear.
Inclusion is a good idea, but I think that before a student with burn scars (or any other type of disfigurement) is thrown head first into school system, the other students need to know a little about whats going on. This way, they're more likely to be kind, not cruel.

Public schools are negligent, cause they never get fired for bad work. And particular schools usually only care about the money.
