@OJJVZ Also don't get a board with too long wheelbase. I got a 30" wheelbase and that seems to work, the Gravity Burning Spear with 25,25" wheelbase for instance should work pretty well.
Also don't get a too flexy (nor to stiff I think) board and some grippy wheels, but not too big! Because that makes it harder to steer. (70mm should be fine)
So I finally learned to pump on my apex 34... got crazy speed... and bam out of nowhere WHEELBITE!!!! i shouldnt have gotten 70mm wheels lol.... now im icing my hand
@Blahandmee I recently started pumping and now I've found the trick is once you get over the hump of trying to figure out the most efficient pumping technique, it gets much much easier. Also, my stamina is better after a few days a practice.
@essenceofcool I actually learnt to pump the other week. I'd only been longboarding for less than a week. I stumbled on how to do it by accident. I just tried something and it worked. This vid is pretty close to how I look when pumping. It is tiring, but it can be done. I have a very cheap board too, so with a good board, reboundy trucks, and on a smooth surface it'll be a lot easier.
Shame that 5minutes later I took a big hill and fractured my wrist due to speed wobbles. Doh!
@s0cks1985 you don't really need to swing your back arm that much...once you figure out how to really use your hips instead of your legs it is a lot more efficient and you can go much faster.
@liudawg888 Hey man, thanks. I'm better at it now, but I got a new board thats got big wide trucks. Kinda sucks for pumping, buts such a lovely cruiser and carver. Thinking of putting together a separate pumping board.
PLEASE HELP ME i recently got the loaded dervish but i have one problem i cant figure out how to pump i have been trying for 3 MONTHS ALREADY and still cant figure out how to pump please some one give me some tips or somethin
I just started learning too and I found it's definitely all in the hips. I started twisting my body hard to the left when I was turning left, and the momentum drove me forward, then when I turned it back right and twisted my body to the right, it moved me even faster.
do you listen to music when you ride? I'm no expert but it helps me out when i'm pumping. Helps me keep the rhythm in my pumps and maintain the momentum I guess..
Is that newport peninsula? looks like the bike path they have there

I can't seem to turn sharply enough on my long board to pump, can anyone help?
MoManMike 8 months ago
@MoManMike I'm just starting to learn it myself, so if you ppl don't agree feel free to correct me :P
What seems to help for me is putting some risers under the trucks, and some wedges (7-14 degrees wedged in front and 7 degrees de-wedged in the rear)
Also preferbly put some Vectors or Indies or something like that under your deck, Randalls and other RKP trucks arn't too great. (Possible tho)
Now your deck is really high up the wheels you can put some nice and squishy soft bushings in there.

Where I live this is a popular setup.
- Bennett Vektor in front with 14 deg wedge
- Tracker RTS in the rear with 7 deg dewedge
- Abec 11 zigzags

does pumping make you go faster?
mrkellymathstudent 1 year ago
@mrkellymathstudent Yeah, the action of pumping uses the friction of you shifting your weight to propel the board forward.

That seems like a great place to ride. But if you get into the sand.... lol gameover for your bearings xD

How loose do the trucks have to be to pump?
And I have a 42" mini carve from gravity boards, is it too long to pump with?
Any other tips are appreciated :)
