Jeffrey Daniels from Shalamar taught him along with stree kids, it was called the backslide and Michael adapted it. Chaplin used to perform in variety acts in England and he would get ideas from everyone. MJ's Smooth Criminal is based on girl hunt a sequence in a Fred Astaire film called Band Wagon.

Jeffrey Daniels from Shalamar taught him along with stree kids, it was called the backslide and Michael adapted it. Chaplin used to perform in variety acts in England and he would get ideas from everyone. MJ's Smooth Criminal is based on girl hunt a sequence in a Fred Astaire film called Band Wagon.

In one of his interviews, Michael said the Moonwalk was a common step in the black community, including children who always did this step, what he did was to learn and improve the pace as well as many other dance moves he made it clear who was paying attention in order to learn. Michael was fabulous and humble. She never failed to admit that many steps he just improved. As a dancer I always wanted to perfect perfect feet! Merit total for Michael!

MJ got it from dancers who were being featured in the show "Soul Train" at the time. they Showed it to him, but at the time whey were gliding around in a circle . MJ made it his by making it better and tweaking it,
