indeed, both are fantastic films. the 'masters of russian animation' and 'yuri norshtein - filmworks' are both recommended dvds. as is the excellent 'magia russica' documentary.
Yuri Norstein's first animated film, made in 1968. Norstein is undoubtedly one of the most talented animators ever. His 1979's "Skazka Skazok" (i.e. Tale of Tales) is widely considered to be the best animated film ever produced. Watch it on YouTube! (English subtitles are provided.) You may first want to take a look at his 1975's absolutely gorgeous "Hedgehog in the Fog."

Thank you for posting this video! I think that somebody must upload a better version of "Tale of Tale's"--unfortunately it's of such poor quality...
