The reason I bought a 335. What a sad loss to the music industry and to all that loved him. Without doubt one of the very best vocalist that have ever been
Seen your Dad couple times in the early seventies Sundown Edmonton and the rainbow they were magic memories will always look up to Steve and admire his raw energy and undoubted talent so sad that I missed seeing him more but was too busy bringing up the kids then it too late wish all his family well ! Just hope there is many tributes forever
I've been listening to Steve Marriott for many years and every time I hear his voice the hairs on the back of my neck stand up without fail, his voice is that good! He is the best in my opinion and that was no mean feat what with the likes of Robert Plant and Paul Rogers out there doing their thing. Steve Marriott deserves more credit and recognition for his acheivements and his great talent! R.I.P.
Hallelujah! I spent a few minutes reading these comments and listening to the vid, and I looked up the RRHOF info about this years nominees. There he was, Finally going into the house that he helped to build...albeit, in a group category as the Small Faces/Faces, but he will get the treatment as a great musical pioneer. It is my wish as well as yours, that he will be eventually recognized as the kind of performer that scared the hell out of the Brit movement's early pioneers for his showmanship.
Mollie, your father was a natural! A singular voice, and amazing guitar style. I so wish I'd had the privilege to see him perform. He was a force of nature on the stage. His music has stood the test of time and I will continue to listen to him always. Be proud of him, don't let anyone put him down. We all have our demons, we win some battles and lose others. I'm so glad to see at this point in his life he was still the amazing performer we knew and loved.
Steve Marriott is one of the all time greats. And on top form here too. What a swagger and a style. Beautiful guitar playing, so much soul, and that voice! Just amazing.
What a bundle of talent this man was! I've loved his voice for years, but just his guitar tone here would be treasured by many dedicated guitarists. I wish the Small Faces had got the worldwide recognition they deserved - it just shows that its not just down to talent. :(
Wow he was really good guitar player! I saw him in one of Humble Pies last concert in Houston Texas. 1975 or something like that, I went to the concert mainly to see a new band on the seen Robin Trower (Bridge of sighs) tour. I didn't know any of Humble Pies songs (I was only 14) but I never forget seeing him, he was like the wildest thing on stage I had ever seen! After that gig I think I bought the Smokin album on 8 track tape! Then the Filmore live album which is the best live EVER!!
@mamothcar1 definitly the Fillmore Live album is the best Live Rock Album ever !!!!! what ' s still amazing 40 years later is the age of the gang at this concert : Jerry was just 18 ......the other three in their early 20 's !!!!! they just rocked like experienced performers !!!! wwowooowwwww as you wrote the very very very best all-time Rock Album .............. :-)
I saw him so many times ....Back then I selected my vacation (flying from Froggy land :-) according to the Pie touring dates .... No kidding Dude !!!!! The concert of my life : Humble Pie in the Park ( 3rd july 1971 for ......my 19th birthday :-) I'm 60 rite now ....... my ears are still bleeding .....Great Memories (I realize everyday how I was lucky !!!)
I was a huge fan of your father Mollie - he was such a natural and probably one of the most talented I've ever seen in a live show. I was lucky enough to meet him after a show and he gave me one of his harmonicas, which I still have to this day. So very sorry for your loss - he is greatly missed!
I am 38, so I didn't grow up with the Pie, but I was blown away after I bought the Fillmore album about 2 years ago. Your dad's talent as a singer and a guitarist was and is truly amazing. He inspires me every time I listen to him. I listen to a lot of heavy classic and modern rock, but what's so incredible about his music is how it stands alone and how raw and real it is. I wish I would have been around back in 71 to see them at the Fillmore. Thank God for Steve Marriott.
...if James Brown was the hardest working man in the music business, Steve Marriot was a solid second. Saw Steve many times and never saw him falter or put on a half ass effort just to make a paycheck, he always worked and played his ass off regradless if the venue had a hundred or was SRO...Godspeed brother I always think of you whenever I drive past the old Coliseum.
@ Mollie: I saw the Pie in '75 and they blew the roof off the joint (Louisville, KY). To this day, I owe them a huge debt for the massive inspiration they provided me with--and I'll take that to the stage in Clearwater Beach, FL tonight.
@molliemarriott Hi. Nice you are here. Your father gave body, soul, intensitivity and good songs to British music. He blew me from All and Nothing and for several years Tinsoldier was my favorite and still got several singles. I still get a littl;e mad thinking about the bastards that "stole" his money and in a way his future together with King Alcohol. Bless his soul. Hope you "kids" get by. Wish you a nice and giving 2012. Warm regards from Jan. Odense. Denmark
@molliemarriott Saw your dad in '84-'85 in tulsa ok. of all places! He rocked the f'n house!! One of the best shows i've EVER seen!!! LOL!! He even steals an Otis Rush lick in this one! Amazing!!
@molliemarriott I only got to see your father once in early '87 at a bar outside Tampa, Fl. It was the last night they were featuring rock bands. They were going to change to a country western format the next night or something. Man, they were SO good. Your dad had so much energy. Could have put any band half their age to shame. Wish he was still around. Still have all that great music though.
@molliemarriott Mollie I was 19 in early 81. Went to see HP in Sacramento, CA. I'd just bought the On To Victory and vaguely knew of the SF. I was feeling good and spent the night trying to figure out if that little guy was THAT good or if it was me feeling THAT good. As the night wore on I knew for sure that it was Steve Marriott that was just kicking some ASS! For thirty years every great show I saw, I compared it to that night in Sacramento. Your dad was special!
@molliemarriott I never discovered Steve until two days ago, I had heard the name but I wasn't born until 1968 so most of Steve's work was before my time, my new bass player put me onto him, musical genius, up there with Joe Cocker and Paul Rodgers vocally and he definitely had his chops together on the guitar, and wow what a song collection. What a loss, but thanks for the inspiration. Party on.
@molliemarriott Steve is a hero and a musical inspiration to me as a long time professional musician. His passion, talent, energy and commitment to his craft is astounding. You have to be so proud of him and all he accomplished as an artist. I saw your pics at the Classic Rock awards and I thought it was really great that they honored him. Thank you Molly and for keeping your dad's legacy alive. I know I am!
@molliemarriott I met Steve at the St George Robey in Finsbury, at a gig in Chelmsford and backstage at the Marquee in 86 and he was very clear headed, friendly and healthy then. I bought a Les Paul Custom off his harmonica player. I'd also seen him twice in Glasgow around 73/74 with HP - the Eat It gig recording- he spoke to us (kids then) as he was getting in a limo with the Blackberries. He was and still is a major influence on me, the best ever in his field and he only got better with age.
@molliemarriott Your fathers music meant a lot me, Nobody has ever gotten close. He belongs in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame without a doubt. God what a voice.
@molliemarriott Steve was so under rated as a musician, song writer and a guitar player.
The people who know music, know his value to the music world. Not some manager
who just rip off people with talent ..Thank you Steve for all the years of hard work to give us this and so many more songs that will live for ever.....Dave
ich bin mit ihm groß geworden und hatte ihn als starschnitt an der wand,,,als ich meinen ersten richtigen blues hatte traf ich ihn in ffm. und er schickte sogar seine musikerkolelgen raus,,,trank mit mit mir alles was er hatte. und sagte am schluß zu mir " sit this fucking women in her fucking women chair and go your way"!!!!das war 1987!!!
Phenomenal talent...all that came after him were merely copy cats in my Humble opinion. Saw Humble Pie three glorious times and it was truly a privilege to be in the presence of such REAL talent. PERFECTION.

I disagree with 1968tg - he might be a tiny bit fuller round the chops but there is nothing to suggest Steve wasn't firing on all cylinders and capable of presenting a great evening's entertainment. There ain't many who could do that lead/rhtyhm thing on a slow swaggery number like this quite like Stevie. Listening to this casually you'd swear it was two guitarists!
Thanks for this video, Steve Marriott is my idol and inspiration to play my guitar, he had a perfect rock-blues style and a great voice in every project he had and his solo career, God bless you Steve!
@1968tjg I think you will find he just has some temporary issues with his mouth / teeth here, nothing more than doing the gig in a bit of pain, for whatever reason. Looks fine otherwise. I saw him live a number of times in this period and he never looked in bad shape.
My favourite musician and vocalist... miss him !!!
