Prost didn't care about one specific race, as he said here. He calculated each race, and allowed people to pass him in order to avoid risking his points. Senna wanted to win each and every race no matter what, risking a bit more than anyone. Prost had a calculator on his hands. Senna had his heart on his hands. Jesus bless you!

I was not a Senna fan, but after watching the documentary made recently of him, it's clear that this guy was a real hero of the tracks, he had to fight against stupid Ballestre besides the wars he fought in the tracks, clearly this race (as the '89 championship, finally I understood that Suzuka move) was for him, but no, pussy Prost had all the support of the FIA

Im always trying to imagine what would have happened if Bellof and later on Senna wouldnt have died.The both started their careers at the same time both were young and imagine what could have happened if they had been driving in winner cars against each other? This would have been the biggest battle of all time. The two most talented drivers of all time!!!

Interesting to note is that if the race hadn't been stopped and allowed to go the full distance or whatever was needed to give full points to the drivers, then Senna would have won and Prost ended up in 2nd place bagging 6 points instead of the 4,5 he got for the win in the stopped race. Whether or not Bellof would have overtaken Prost for 2nd place didn't matter since Tyrrell lost all their points and classifications for the entire 1984 season. Prost would have won the 1984 title by a single p.

it's not difficult to say Senna was the best. in normal conditions the Toleman Hart was very inferior to McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus, Renault and Williams. Only in this conditions he had a chance. Bellof on the other side drove a good race, but he was running an illegal car and was fairly squalified. Senna also set the fastest lap with a damaged suspension.

Esa carrera era suya y hasta el propio Prost dice en la entrevista final que le hubiera dejado pasar ya que era mucho mas rapido que el debido a sus problemas de frenos y su preocupacion por el campeonato. Cut the crap. Prost was one of the best of all time too. 4 championships and 51 wins. In fact you should be grateful Senna was measured against him in the same car. Schumacher never had a Prost like team mate, just a number of handpicked number 2's like Verstappen, Herbert, Irvine and Barrichello.

Great mean are judged by other great men and Senna had Prost as team mate.

If you look only the speed of the cars you can see Beloff and Senna where the quickest. Beloff had no Turbo. He had problem on straight road to passing the other cars and he was also to much time behind cars. But the advantage of having no turbo was no turbolag at the end of the curves. You can see the action before tunnel. So its hard to say. Mansell and De Angelis also not bad. And Prost and Lauda? They had break problems? Ok! The other drivers had no chance.

I agree, in this conditions overall its an advantage to not have a turbocharged engine because of the turbolag and the resulting miserable drivability of these engines

Turbos had trouble matching the pace of the normally aspirated cars in Monaco out of all places. For instance in 1983 when Piquet had far more horsepower in his Brabham-BMW than Rosberg had in his Williams-Ford. Piquet said the turbolag meant he simply rolled through many corners and floored it on the straight. Rosberg won the 1983 Monaco GP against all the turbo opposition.

In the rain turbocars were very difficult to control, and particularly in Monaco. Bellof had an advantage

Also you should know at the end of the 1984 season it was revealed Tyrrell had been cheating all year and had underweight cars. They just filled their tanks with lead bearings to make the minimum weight when controlled. So Bellof's car may have been some 100kilos lighter than the rest too, which coped with a normally aspirated engine was a huge advantage in a rain soaked Monaco.

As punishment Tyrrell lost all their points and rankings in the 1984 season.

In rain, having a non-turbo engine is a huge advantage. Rosberg won in Monaco in 1983 driving a Williams-Cosworth V8, against the opposition who virtually all had way more powerful turbo-engines.

In Monaco out of all circuits outright power means the least, and in rain a smooth non-turbo engine is ideal

Bellof's Tyrrell was also underweight, since it was revealed that Tyrrell had used lots of lead bearings as ballast to pass the weight inspections.They were stripped of all points

what I see here is Prost being really fast: a gap of 2.6sec to 2nd Mansell and 6.8sec to 3d Arnoux, in just 2 laps! Mansell only catched Prost and overtook him when both McLaren started to have braking problems (wrong compound: brakes didn't warm properly). By some stage of the race, Prost was leading by 30 sec...... Senna was fantastic that day, but given circumstances, everyone seemed to forget the excellent race Prost performed as well.....
