My last beautiful dog came from a shelter where he had been abandoned by his owners. He was 2.5 years old and had some "issues," but after proper training became my best friend and the love of my life. He travelled through Canada and the US with me, during a move to another province and was welcome everywhere. He passed away from old age at 17 (old for a big dog!) but he was greatly loved and adored and made my life all the better for him being in it. Shelter dogs rock!

They were recently in Whitby, Ontario at are New Durham Region Humane Society visiting some of the animals waiting for their new Forever Home and also checking out the new shelter, which was not finished when they were here last year. Uhh, actually a lot of animals eat their own droppings. 8I It's because they're recycling the nutrients. A lot of dogs do it as well as rabbits, rats, gorillas, cattle and other animals do it.

That's only true in some cases. 'Recycling' IS a -symptom- of nutrition deficiency but it isn't always linked to it.

For some dogs it's just habit. And for a lot of other animals, it's just for nutrients they 'missed', and are catching up on but not particularly lacking.

Of course you should take your dog [and especially cats] to the vet it they start doing it out of nowhere but often enough it's just something natural that they do. :3
