@melonka100 harpsichord, i think. the near- extinct predecessor of the piano that plucks strings instead of hitting parts. still has keys though. renissance type of beautiful instrument

If you like this music, it's no problem. Still, I hope everyone realizes that it's nothing romantic or beautiful about suicide. It's destroying families every day. But if you like the music, enjoy it but be safe

@anehem Emilie isn't trying to make suicide romantic or beautiful at all. I think what she's really trying to do is explain just why people commit suicide but keep a slightly witty and sarcastic tone that she has. Even in her book [which sits beside me now, 225 pages in and begging to be finished] she talks about why people kill themselves, but makes it perfectly clear that she doesn't try to glorify it. We know suicide is 'wrong' but we still speak of it like it is, not what we're told it is.

@SophisticatedDamage I watched an interview she did and she talked about this song. From what she said, it was sarcastic mockery of when people in the Victorian Age would make themselves up fancy before committing suicide. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I just remember what she said.

@anehem I've always thought of this song as telling people off for seeing suicide and romantic/beautiful. I'm not the best at interpreting lyrics, but I thought the beginning was her telling the story so many suicidal people think, that it's neat and pretty and dramatic, and then the end saying "You have to wake up, you aren't living in this story world, and there are too many people deluding themselves that suicide is romantic for you to do it too."

@BashaPetania totally agree with you there. I think she is challenging our own perceptions of how we see suicide...that it is something romantic and pretty and kind of forces to face the reality that it is often messy and painful and sad, not only for the person, but their families and friends too
