  • well wherever u are, tamil culture and music is great

  • This is what you call REAL neyyandi melam! :)

  • wat u mean by neyyandi melam?

  • Originally, it is not actually called "urumi melam", in Tamil Nadu, drumming consisting of thavil, pambai, urumi, and ekkalam is called "neyyandi melam". Actually urumi "melam" consists of about 5 urumis or more, usually used for certain pujas, funerals, celebrations, etc. If you watch Tamil movies like Virumandi (w/ kamal hassan), you can see towards the end in a village dance sequence (oyilattam), about 10 urumis or so.

  • well i know what you are talking about.Ive heard this before. But this is how its done in malaysia. Not excatly like this...itz a lil more better. This is a small group that jst came for a small temple puja.Normaly for thaipusam they would have a min of 5 urumi's.Well i guess itz done a lil differently in Malaysia.

  • Well either way, its all the same thing, same beats, same drums, etc.

When I was saying urumi melam, i was talking about urumis only, w/ out the other types of drums.

In Pazhani (Tamil Nadu) the main pilgrimage for Murugan, you can hear neyyandi melam all over.
