The best JMJs record ever made. I don't even know what else I can say. I'm in love with it for few years and every day it's better. Absolutly perfect!
Well, I don't know what to do about it... Maybe, when he is playing to this public he is being colaborative to the system... Maybe, people in the audience who weren't applauding enough loud were having a bullet in the head after... I don't know... If I were a great musician, I would not go to this naszis'like country. How about a concert in Birmany ? How does it help the people who live there ? Just the regime...
Yes they do but as it is synth music they have soundeffects running and change/bend them in different ways. Jean Michel Jarre is the KING of synth music. Basically a synth muscian is a technician with good tone/music recognision ;)
I've listened this album again and again but there is no sign for me of getting bored of them. Conversely I find something different something deep in these pieces of music when I listen to them
They come up in this order: - 0:56 Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 (USA) - 1:14 (2:20) EMS Modular system (at least 6 of them!) (British) - 2:07 Simmons Drums (?) - 2:43 Moog Modular System (in background) (USA) - 2:55 Eminent 310 Organ (Netherlands) - 3:30 Fairlight Keyboard (Australia) + Fairlight computer screen + Fairlight Hard disk - 3:44 But what keyboard is he programming here? Oberheim? Does anyone know?
1981, vintage gear! JMJ is using the British EMS modular system (1:10+), then the Eminent 310 organ for lush string sounds (2:55); his band member (0:57) is using a SC Prophet 5. In(3:30) I can see a FAIRLIGHT computer screen (If I'm not mistaken!)
There is also a very big Moog Modular system(?)(2:43)and almost everything else you can imagine up to 1981. This would be worth a bit now. It was worth a lot then. The Australian Fairlight (2:59?) then cost the price of a house!
clued in to his music when he did the china concert. iirc this was the first western performance allowed in post mao china - they went nuts over it. multiple generations of musicians in his family. wiki has nice write up. great musician and def 20+ years ahead of his time.
I got this album when it 1st came out. I knew it was the future of music. This guy began the techno music age 20 years before it hit. Nowadays you can push a button and get this sound. back then it took a room full of equipment and many soundtracks. the laser harp is just for show though.
Exactly. I remember when I first listened to this in the late 1980's and it was amazing even as a child I knew that his work was much different then others and it did not sound technical/mechanical and had a natural feeling to it.
I discovered Jarre in 1986 and was completely blown away with the futuristic soundscapes of up to 10 year old albums compared with the "modern" standard 80's pop of the time.
Those of us that are too young to remember must only imagine how futuristic this music was back in the late 70's and early 80's. Not only for this Chinese audience, but for the entire world, living in the age of disco. The music must have been totally alien for its time.
Sorprendente!!! este debe de ser el concierto más sobrevalorado dado a la cantidad de putadas que tuvo que pasar Jarre y como consiguió dar los conciertos pese a esas putadas. un GRAN DIRECTO!!!!! :D
JMJarre and Vangelis must be 2 of the greatest synth players ever.... Everyone else follows. This was in 1981. Amazing. I love their music. Do you think they know each other? This is a question I have asked myself a few times...
Is there anyone else as good? With the "G-Force String Machine" and "Arturia products" (+ some others)... you can get a little closer. But they are incredible...
I love thoose AKS, I never got the same effect of the original equinoxe. Of course I have the vst, the instrument is unreachable for me. I bet no one could get the same effect, it's unique.
I saw this guy in 1988 at London Docklands. he was simply mesmerizing then, and he remains simply fantastic muscian........so ahead of his time in regards to the technology he used.........see other postings (largest ever audience for an outdooor event at his concerts in china in the earley 80's I think ... ...we fans think he is pure majic.

The original VHS transmission of the 1981 China tour was released by Polydor / Disques Dreyfus (I think) in about 1992 (?) and its probably deleted long ago now but I'm sure you can still get it on EBAY :) Hope this helps :)
(My personal favourite track from this film is Magnetic Fields 1 :) )
