  • this is great! i'm glad i found your channel! thx...

  • @cobeany Im glad you found it too!! thanks for the support!

  • Many church musicians transpose, why????

  • I was interested on watching this video until I noticed the piano was tranposed, and I noticed the minute you sttarted to play. Shame some musicians have to cheat that way.. What key is that on?? +6 or -6 , haha

  • @MiShAcKSaX The piano was accidentally set on a different pitch. Its not that i cheat. Im not a cheater. If i was a cheater then I wouldnt post videos.

  • Good video!! Thanks for sharing

  • is your piano in transpose because thats deff in f# buddy

  • this is one tumbao normal.. easy

  • Good piece, but i dont think hes teaching how to play salsa in general, like the basics of salsa, he's just teaching how to play that salsa song in particular, although you could apply the same pattern and beats to a song to make it salsa.

  • nice piece but badly taught

  • Not good man... You explained everything well except for the hard part.. Incorporating the bass..

You didn't show step by step how to use it :(

  • THANK YOU! YOUR AWESOME.. :)

  • J.C. I Love your video Sir! your patience and the way you take the time to really show where each finger goes to make the chord complete is awsome. I want to learn to play SALSA ROMANTICA Like the music of Jerry Rivera and Marc Anthony. I am a begginer and need your help Sir. I am a Jehovahs Witness and my labor of love is produceing original music to my lyrics and follow my voice with the music. basically I am a salsero. Now I just need to learn how to play by ear.!!! do u hav a video I canbuy?

  • awesome job man, thanks so much. You are awesome. But why drop the thumb on your left hand when you play?

  • hey can u post up a vid to show salsa in dm and am? plz plz =)

  • @chaledos1 go to anointedmusicians(dot) org and request it there. i dont keep track of requests here im sorry..

  • esta fuera de ritmo, muy rapido

  • @Ooooooommmmpph Oh well...

  • i think that you should practice more details from salsa piano before to do a tutorial

  • @elpianista11 Maybe? !

  • This has a samba feel to it

  • @melbisima123 There you go!

  • Very good video

  • @cleopigtra Thanks : )

  • whats with the bass?

  • @Holycrap27 A E D C B F E B A

  • Key is transposed and right hand fingerings are improper.

  • @muziqman313 I know : (

  • Right hand execution not 100% consistent, but I get the idea...thanx.

  • @MikeNichols50 Who does 100%

  • What is the tone you have there? Have you got a guitar or harpsichord doubled on it? It's very bright and punchy.

  • @ireallydontlikeit I think it was just piano. The guitar affect was just the bad cam.

  • dfude, ur piano's not in tune, ur c's an f#

  • @frognyanya I know. Thats why i said its transposed...

  • DUDE! that's amazing!

I love it! Just wished it wasn't transposed hahaha but that's cool... appreciate the tutorial!

    thanks much

  • Yes, it is transposed...

A metronome may have been useful as well for this demo...

Good left - right hand independence though...playing the bass line in left hand

    is tricky for the beginner...

  • @k2kid36 I know me to : ( Im glad you liked it though

  • I give up. I can play a lot with 2 hands, but not this one..

  • Woah - why have you completely transposed the piano? How do you expect me to follow it?

  • @izzy1234able Do it on your piano.

  • @latinpianist - If you have perfect pitch it makes it very difficult to follow.

It's kind of like that game on the DS where you look at the word blue but the text is in red and you have to shout out 'red'. But it's much harder than that with music since it's happening quickly.

Trust me - next time, please don't transpose it!!

  • yeah you have latin spirit in your veins!!!!!!!

  • lol! I do! ! !

  • Yesssss this is the fiilling. thanks

  • thank YOU!

  • i use it now

  • Thank you very much, I really appreciate your help. It is not easy to find people who want to help as you do with this video. Please continue like this, for I want to learn to play salsa.

  • thanks for the encouragement... its hard to find people who appreciate it like you do

  • the keyboard sound is annoying

  • i upgraded already...

  • hey man, very good this leccion, can play the rhythm of merengue? take care

  • i can but maybe in another video...thanks for watching though

  • very good!!

  • thank you

  • a was up dude!

what's the brand of the keyboard ur playing?

  • its a roland xp60

  • :D!!

  • Your GOOd MAN thANK GOD (:

  • i need to clap the rhythm before I start to play these beat patterns, so many types !

  • ok ignore my last spot, i found my transpose key on my piano haha :D

  • i tried this technique but had some trouble.... i understand its transposed to F# but, wouldn't it be easier to do this tutorial in the actual key of C? I have yet to check out the rest of the tutorials, they are quite helpful, just confusing with the key transposed :)

  • latinpianist, thanks for the tutorial. it really helped me out.

you need to relax, though. start by keeping your leg still wile explaining, or maybe not taking negative comments so seriously as i see below.

    thanks again.

  • i haad just started lol. but really good advice thanks. its not that i take the negative comments seriously its that i dont want to permit people to be jerks sometimes. i understand edifying critism but not people who just want to be jerks i cant tolerate that....but thanks.....

  • hahha

I havent't started to learn the pisano but when I start I definitly will use this method..> I love salsa and wow this brother know how to play!!!! great

  • your welcome.

  • Nice catch of how the chord is goin to transpose a bit problem on tempo nice try !!!

ur forte is transpose jus becareful of ur Tempo mesmerised how the passionate of the salsha is

  • i know thanks though

  • not that good playing... your timing is very bad. To improve that, i would suggest practising with metronome.

  • i know. thanks.

  • thank you....!

  • I'm a beginner thanks for all the patience to explain the basic consepts of the beat, many know how to play good but don't have the patience to explain thanks a million!

  • I enjoy teaching and im happy you liked the video.

  • uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • uuuuuuuu

  • So cool

  • thanks

  • wow i never thought i could play salsa... How do you transpose the piano to F #?

  • what kind of piano do you have....look for a transpose button or utility button. then ill let you know more when you tell me what kind of piano you have

  • Dude, your C is actually an F. You should have reset your keyboard. It's could though I get the idea.

  • yeah cause i transposed it. accidentally of course. sorry

  • the salsa...is a little more..hem.. movida!

    xD

    but, grat video!

    mucho ritmo! :P

    saludos!

    xau xau

    Copy-mexico

  • Don't use transort any more you are killing your ears. You are talking about C Major but you are playing G Major.

  • it was a mistake. my piano's transpose feature saves even when you turn the piano off. its a roland thing.

  • gooooooood :)))))) <33 =O* :) verry good! :)

  • thank you so much

  • Great, i'm subscribing right now... looking forward for those spanish tutorials.

  • Just super friend !! Two questions for you.

1). Even if you are playing in a band, would you still have to do the base part? I'm thinking if there is already a base player why must the piano player do that part as well. I look at salsa pianists hands and it doe'nt appear as if they are doing the base part. Would you do the tumbao part with both hands then?

    2) Do you recomend any Method book with excercises to improve with the technical aspect of this music.

    Thank you.

  • If you have a bass player then no, why would you play bass having a bass player?

  • Yes, I figured you would'nt do the bass part.

What would you do with the left hand then. Same as right?

  • Yes, same as right, besides, you are a piano player, not a bass player lol. Both hands can play different montunos though at the same time, it doesnt have to be the exact same thing.

  • Ok. I understand. Not the exact same thing. Maybe combined both hands to form one montuno such as in "Castellanos Que Bueno Baila Usted".. It would be hard to get it to sound that way if you don't bang the tonic with your left hand in some areas and then that chord but inverted with the right hand....hard to explain here, sorry.

    Thanks though, appreciate the info.

  • When I mean different, I mean like what ever montuno you are playing on your right hand, you play the same with your left but you play inversions instead. Same chords, different inversions. Sounds fuller and nicer! =)

  • I understand. Same passage , but not the same notes. Yep, fuller.

  • Hola, I´m Ray. That´s my answer:

1.If you´re playing in a band, you´ll never treat to play the bass part except if the arrangement obligue you to do it. Both hands have to do the same in a distance of one or two octaves between them when you are playing piano tumbao. Sometimes you have to do comping as well.

2.Look forward: "Salsa guidebook for piano and ensemble", "101 montunos", "latin real book"; those 3 books written by Rebeca Mauleon, great pianist, leader and arranger.

  • Thank you, really appreciate it.

    Jose

  • además "analfabeto" no se usa... es analfabeta. No tiene género. Saludos.

  • hey can u use to pla coritos just asking

  • By using your complete hand it makes it easier to transition, as well as to use chromaticisms.

  • thanks for the advice

  • Comment removed

  • It helps to use your full right hand instead of 3 fingers. The basic repetition of salsa on piano is most commonly known as montuno

  • Please teach the F# transposition, otherwise nobody has any idea how it sounds.

  • thank's you for your learning

  • what is the chord sequence for this? please reply someone :)

  • you have sheet music?

  • Good.....but yor keyboard its tune in F#.....Why is that?

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for the help this is very informative.

  • thank you

  • man, i get this is for teaching purposes but can't you put up something a bit more impressive and intriguing like some timba maybe ? these cheesy salsa progressions make me sad.

  • I know what you are talking about. im getting better. im not as good as a good tropical piano player but im getting there. i wouldnt consider them cheesy but more like for beginners.

  • "no black keys!.... just WHITE keys"

    hahaha...... can u say racist??

    nahhh...jk

    great vid man

  • lol....for some reason black keys are scary but i like them when i play them all together just the black keys. they sound like chinese music. try it. LOL by the way.

  • haha. i would but my pc broke so i cant use my midi controller :(

  • thats a bummer. what kind of computer is it?

  • its a hp pavillion dv6000 laptop. its sucks cuz i make music on it and now i gotta put that on hold... but o well..

  • lol...oh yea try going back and forth on the black keys its even more chinese...lol

  • Haha why would black keys be scary? They are much easier in certain keys.

  • You are a very good teacher, I think. I liked your work very much, and I have learned a lot with this video. Thank you very much.

  • thank you. i like to make sure the people that im teaching are learning well. thanks for watching my videos. glory to God

  • awsome teacher nice job

  • thank you for watching

  • sry bro but its all wrong....i tried doing it but my fingers were in the exact position n the sound was different

  • you forgot to transpose your piano to F#. So C on my piano means F# on your piano. It was a mistake i made sorry

  • Great video! You are a good teacjer - Learned a lot - Thanks so much.

  • your words mean a lot

  • Thanks alot . You are really great .

  • thank you so much

  • I love the upbeat tempo of latin beats! So catchy!

Be sure to check out my blog to see how to play the piano yourself at

    learn-piano-today.blogspot(dot)com

  • cool. ill check it out. awesome. thanks

  • Latin music is very cool! Love it. I think I am going to go and practice those Latin beats, and see if this is possible on the Chordboard. It may be just a piano thing.

  • awesome. good luck

I hope you can understand that. Great job man!

  • gracias por defenderme

  • The tumbao is good but use Fingers 1-3-5 instead of 1-2-3 so you don't rock your wrists side ways!

  • thanks for the advice

  • Thanks for that! I really appreciate it. Do you have any book to suggest where you can learn salsa ? I know there are plenty, but do you know any which is good ? thanks!

  • Salsa Hanon is great. Google it.

  • thanks, I've been playing for about 2 years, so I picked this up really fast.
