As a graduate od wendelstedt Umpire School, it is clear that he went to some school. His feet placement are correct, his head is in the slot. I think he's calling the pitches a little too early, but otherwise looks good. Though in my organization here in southern Nevada, they don't want us syaing strike "Strike one, strike two" or "ball one, ball two", etc. Even though that's what we were taught at school. it's better to just say. "strike" or "ball". But "ring 'em up" on strike three.
It's easy to go to the negative side of things. I see good head height, good voice, and proper heal-toe positioning. Work on terminology. Foul, not foul ball.
Umpire school is not for shit ass ncaa its for professional baseball. Unless you went to the school then dont act like you know what you are talking about.
The criticisms of this ump are pathetic. He was doing a good job - nothing wrong with any of it. Only stupid umpires who have insecurities about power have a problem with it.

I know for a fact that umpire school does not teach saying "strike 2". They teach "strike". Until the ball comes to rest or touches an object in foul territory, it is not a foul ball. He called foul prematurely.
No way this is great plate work. He's too close to the catcher. a good ump is not calling strike one, strike two - it's strike and that's it. the foul ball everyone in the park knows its foul - why do you have to tell them. Typical old boy stuff - he's been doing it for years so he is great. too bad he's been doing it wrong for years
NCAA mechanics require numbering the strikes (and balls) on the call. I agree on the foul ball call - should be just "foul," and certainly no call on this one. Tough to tell if he is too close to the catcher, but the catcher is too far back from the plate fer sure. I'd move him up a bit.
I didn't make myself clear on that. Of course he can squat wherever he wants (within the box). I just move up a step or two after the pitch, and he usually will move up too. If he wants to move back, I'll move, but I might also tell him he's not helping his pitcher get the low strike calls being so far back.
I would recommend putting your left hand behind your left thigh so that it doesn't get hit by a foul ball. This is also very helpful in getting balanced. Good timing, and good call on that second pitch; it caught the knees when it was at the front of the plate.
umpiring school???? you gotta be kidding me, for a high school game? experience gives you everything you need to be a mid level umpire and from the looks of it you need to work on that low strike zone...both hands on your knees with a slight arch and TA-DA strike zone.....
Have you heard the term "old smitty"? That is a person with 20 years of umpiring and never having been trained properly - so that's 20 years of bad habits. Anyone that says experience is better than going to school doesn't have a clue what they're talking about (no offense). Nitzer69 covered it well in the first post - get rid of the "stadium" call (obvious foul) - stay away from looking at indicator as much as possible - learn to relax behind the plate - Good luck.
Everyone in the yard knew that was a foul ball. That happenings again (obvious foul ball) you get right in your ball bag and get that picther a new ball in his glove right away. Keep the flo of the game and keep him in his rymthe and will keep you in yours.
Critter2, Need a dictionary? Get one and use it! If you are going to call anyone stupid, you should spell the words correctly and use correct grammer. I believe I speak for Punchafive and Dmc411 as well when I say, "We are all pulling for to sound somewhat intelligent." Good Luck!
my mom says im a catch, who posts how good they are or how good they did unless, they are a RAT LOVER! look at me i need a star! keep that video in your home PLEASE!
More plate time before the school would have been a better investment. A high stance; yes. I agree about the obvious foul ball, and you could back off the catcher some. The catcher sold you on the low pitch. Hint: If the catcher moves the ball back into the strike zone, he didn't think it was a strike to begin with. Your head is drifting to the right on the first pitch. Your timing could also be slower. You should have got more plate time before burning your money.
AWESOME? Ummm no. Also, your head height is too high. And on the 2nd pitch you set too late, right as the pitch came in, and you called it a strike when it was down. The catcher got you on that one, bringing the pitch back up. So back off the "awesome". And Nitzer is right, dont call the obvious foul.
That seems fine.
Did you find those lights in the dugout distracting? Maybe they look worse on tape.

Never seen an umpire move a catcher up..not saying it hasnt been done but doesnt the catcher have the right to be as far back as he wants?

BTW NCAA does not require you to say Strike 1 or 2 after the Pitch.. Just Strike... read the CCA manual.

Tips:
-Don't call the number of the strike unless you are selling your third strike call (Strike, Strike, STRIKE 3!) etc.
-On a foul ball just say "FOUL" not "FOUL BALL"
