  • damn, suv's suck, i have did the slalom and hit 52mph without a problem like coming close to flipping in my truck. stock height and no electronic assists except abs. and that doesn't help with steering while moving

  • Without stability control brought me here.

  • They should have put orange cones out there. A hypothetical object to avoid hitting, such as a stalled car, moose, cow, bear, or perhaps a REFRIGERATOR that I've seen in the middle of a country road near Santa Maria, CA. I was driving a 1986 Chevy Caprice Classic, so no traction or stability control there. Fortunately I was paying good attention to the road, as I usually am.

  • That's INCREDIBLE! And yes, it can't ALWAYS prevent a rollover, @mathyu0179123232 ....but there is CLEARLY an improvement in stability.

  • bullshit! Stability control will not keep you from rolling over.

  • Хуйня какая-то)))))

  • You guys are dummies. SC doesn't always activate itself when you try to make a turn. You have a choice of rolling your car into whatever you're trying to swerve around, or reducing your speed dramatically and standing a chance of avoiding the accident altogether.

How is it even a real decision?

  • understeer lol

  • Tahoe's rule

  • what you all forget is that ABS was designed for control not for stopping distance. ABS vs NON ABS stopping distance are almost the same ABS being better on paved roads be worse on gravel. ABS gives you the ability to steer around objects. if you dont have abs you could not pump the brakes fast enough to be able to steer the vehicle.

  • Well with stability control you get catastrophic understeer which could make you crash anyways sooo...

  • Whoa. Look at the turning radius with stability control. That's some terrible stability control! Unless the driver was completely panicked, you'd probably be safer WITHOUT it.

It appears the "stability control" simply caused a different type of loss of control: terminal understeer. So many of you might be wondering: do we want a head on collision, or a rollover? Well, the answer is improved driver training ;)

  • yeahh that's very safe when the wheels are turned but locked and sliding so you can't get back into your own lane

  • You could actually hear at 8 seconds where the ESC clamped a brake to stop the skid.

  • I think this is one of the Earlier versions of ESP in a Chevy because Stabilitrak does not cause understeer as bad as in this video

  • yes probs a early system obviously the car has a early abs system like most american cars of the time.

  • Seems like the Yukon w/ that air adjustable suspension is decent. Will GM still produce these for us? From their press release:

"...will likely cease production in 2009, while Moraine, Ohio, which builds the Chevy TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Saab 9-7x, will end production at the end of the 2010 model run, or sooner ... Janesville, Wisconsin, will cease production of medium-duty trucks by the end of 2009, and of the Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon in 2010, or sooner ...

  • Excellent Video

  • it really sucks in my truck, I have a 01' chevy silverado 1500, it seems like it takes a day in a half to stop with the abs

  • Chevy hasn't done much with their brakes. Their ABS uses pulse action braking which can actually increase breaking distances in slippery conditions. I love Fords system on the trucks. Their ABS system is integrated with AdvanceTrac Roll Stability Control and all 4 wheels have massive vented disc brakes and with the Sway Control and Stabilizer Bars the truck handles awesome in rough situations. Good Luck

  • honestly, all ive had is problems with the fords all my family has had, just the other day a ford focus's ATRSC reported that it had flipped when it was just driving along the freeway, the cpu of the car shut it off and slammed on the brakes while she was going 65 all I can say is POS

  • Yeah, and it also causes understeer, so he plowed into whatever he was swerving around in the first place. Get a sedan.

  • sedans can only hold up to six people, and where i live would last long and are propably more dangeruios

  • Sometimes a Sedan isn't worth it or even useful.

  • This feature actually saved my life back in March on some slick snowy roads. I love my Yukon Denali.

  • @oneaznriceboi or get a actual car and not a piece of shit american suv and you wont need stability control

  • @benchod94 Okay bring you pussy ass prius to North Dakota int he winter time and I'd like to see how you would do. Also please haul a load of cows with your prius and drive me out to the field in your prius and haul my boat to the lake in a prius. If you can do all that then hell I'll buy a prius :)

  • @Christiank222 my pussy prius ass drives a fwd honda in canada all year while your dumb yankee ass talks shit on youtube and brags about his pos gm tank when he really needs to learn how to fucking drive

  • @benchod94 So can you farm and ranch with your honda?

  • @oneaznriceboi

    Overpriced POS GM.

  • Stop dissing the Tahoe. My 2001 5.3l get 20 highway, and in the northeast its large size, towing, and 4x4 really help.

  • How fast do you go Highway? My 04" 5.3l gets only like 17-18 and 15 city, and even my V6 explorer gets only 19 highway.

  • it mostly depends on the way you drive, our ford expedition with the 5.4L engine averages 24mpg on the highway

  • Tahoes are awesome!

i have a 2005 with the 5.3 and i got 23 mpg going from the twin cities to duluth going about 70-75 mph

  • im sure you did... downhill for a minute maybe

  • in 2005 they switched from the fan clutch to electric fans, which save ALOT of fuel and don't drag down your engine

  • @Bacardiandcola68 Really? My S550 can only get roughly 12 on highway and 8 in city. lol

  • "he couldn't even get a wheel of the ground" lol the way he says that is so funny

  • If the ABS pulsed constantly it would take longer to stop then it would for the tires to skid a little bit. Also the ABS only activates if a wheel or wheels locks up otherwise it doesn't intervene. It just depends on the sensitivity of the system. The Tahoe is a lot heavier then the highlander so no duh it takes longer for the Tahoe to stop.

  • Friend at work had a Lexus SUV w/ ESC. Got tapped by a Sentra merging into their lane, and despite a gentle correction back, it still rolled. I guess SUV stands for "Suddenly Upsidedown Vehicle"

  • My Highlander stops in less than 130 FT 60-0, thats as good as a Toyota Camry or Ford Fusion, if you don't want long ass breaking distances and a high risk of rollover's don't get bohemeths like the Chevy Tahoe, get a smaller SUV.

  • Yeah, evaluated on a smooth road w/ constant friction. Try it head-to-head some day w/ the 2 cars you listed on real world pavement...you'll need to stiffen the suspension on the SUV to keep the ABS pulse repetition freq from getting into trouble with the way the axles will hop. It's unavoidable on small SUV's; just a fact of life. GM gets away w/ it on their big SUV's by using longer ABS pulses & release events...but get longer distances. Can't win for losing.

  • Tahoe takes forever to stop, but I am come to an emergency panic stop in my Highlander without 1 tire locking up.

  • Use a videocam with an appropriate frame speed. You'd be surprised how many times they lock up / freewheel (w/ some pressure) when the ABS processor takes over.

  • But they don't lock up as in like the tire just starts skidding, if they lockup they unlock really quickly, I can come to a panic stop without so much as a few chirps from the tires. But if I turned ABS off they would just lock up and start skidding. How do you disable ABS/Stability control in a car with complete By-Wiring, ABS thing I tried pulling the fuse but it disabled the car.Every time i take a turn on a gravel road the stupid things starts beeping and crap

  • Well, DUH, read what I said about the ABS rep freq. There's a dwell time involved on the Toyotas, and they DO stay locked for a short time per pulse, but usually (not always) faster than you can detect it. In some cases it has to be adjusted based on unsprung mass and the spring rates to prevent axle hop. That's why you'll hear distinct chirps on your light SUV. This is why changing tire size and wheel weight can screw up ABS effectiveness on light SUV's, as well.

  • And, oh YES, on GM products, they will skid more than couple feet per ABS pulse, all the way down to zero speed ... this has been accidentally documented on film during those television road test shows for both the Tahoe and the Yukon. GM had to choose tires that wouldn't make an audible noise during an ABS trigger event. Otherwise, people would return the cars for warranty work wondering why the ABS was so shitty on their GM products. It's not shitty...it's just not very good at all.

  • So let's all forget the gas guzzlers the Japs make like the QX56, Armada, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, etc., right?

  • My Highlander Hybrid and my Tahoe both have ESC. I have activated it on my Highlander and it saved me from fipping at 75 MPH when I was avoiding a fallen steel coil.

  • And he then went and killed the Tahoe.
