  • anyone thinks this sounds kinda similar to 'scentless apprentice' by Nirvana?

  • Three guys with a sound .... This Band influenced so many Bands...two records that all....today R.P Sheppard is SOPHIA.

    Jimmy Fernandez died too young...

  • @JahGandi its timeless

  • classic track

  • I've had the chance to listen to thousands of bands of all kinds of genres and languages wich I love. And this album. When it was released and today is on top with my favorites. That's ALL I gotta say!!

  • u guys SUCK no fucken lie to

  • Jericho Tavern, Oxford... early 90s - take me back!

  • Weve come a long way from this. its just so 90's.

  • I never had this album out of my car stereo....or the cassette player at work.....awesome album awesome band

  • @bingowingz70 hehe. tapes eh!

  • seen them at glastonbury 91,, 11.30am and brillant.....

  • Bought this when it came out in 93. I have listened to this album more than ANY other album in my life. Amazing band. One of the truly sad break ups ever. I miss them so much.

  • this album was fucking amazing, really some of the hardest shit ever in terms of the way its was done. bought this album when it came out but lost it over the years and just ran into it again. fucking amazing wish they had never broke up and put out more heavy as hell yet "mellow?" shit like this.

  • Great video from one of the most criminally underrated bands ever. Robin Proper Sheppard is right up there amongst the greatest ever songwriters. Scenes... was blowing you away literally. Finally the album is released again, hopefully this will lead to the well deserved recognition after all.

  • Saw them in Leeds. Awesome!!!

  • My friend who has just passed away, we used to sit and have a drink or two of cider listening to this and wondering why they wre not massieve. R.I.P Pal Mal Al.

  • anyone know who directed this video? it has similarities to faith no more's 'a small victory'.

  • reminds me of helmet. I like it!

  • My love for this band is endless. He's obviously not comfortable with pretend-singing in front of a camera crew.

    Wish they'd recorded more.

  • hell mothafukin yes i love the god machine

  • I knew them by reviews of "The Desert Song" EP; then I heard to some songs of the "Second Storey" album, and suddenly I buoght it. I bener ended to listen this music even because it gives you a sense of infinity. But Sophia make another music, theysometimes have some contact points, or seem to. The problem is that Universal DO NOT REISSUE BACK THE ALBUMS. I wrote them more and more times: they don't answer.

  • @hypnosphere I don't know if you found out but they did reissue these in Europe at least. You can buy them off of amazon.de ^^

  • Such a sad loss; Jimmy, you were a wonderful man. I'll never forget the accidental party in Cologne.

  • i stumbled across them by accident just before scenes was released. still untouchable

  • can someone please tell me what the intro music is to this song

  • the intro is bulgarian folk music from the bulgarian state radio choir - they recorded a few albums with a french producer back in the '80 and '90 called 'le mystère des voix bulgares'

lots of videos from them on youtube by the way (type : mystere des voix bulgares) ...

you're welcome (frederic - brussels, belgium)

  • chhers m8 Very very beautiful stuff

been trying to find it for so long

    :)

  • Scenes indeed!

  • Simply a brilliant band, way ahead of their time! Never had the honour to see them live though :-(

  • I only have 2 words for this band and this song

    FAKKIN A

Although..... A ....is not even a word ^_^

  • I saw these guys at a tiny club in Bath and at the Phoenix Festival in 93. Massive sound live at both venues!

  • Criminally under-rated at the time, but they're getting their dues now. It's sad that Jimmy could not be still with us to appreciate it though. Timeless music..... It sounds like it could have been released yesterday...it will still be amazing in 20 more years time....

  • band incredibilmente sottovalutata, una sorta di crossover-post punk a tratti davvero inarrivabile, addirittura superiore ai grandi jane's addiction,un peccato mortale non conoscerli.

  • such great pot smoking music

  • Great song, great album, great band

  • from one of the best albums of all time.

  • Not only opener of Living Colour... but also for Catherine Wheel, The Afghan Whigs and Cop Shoot Cop... I really do not know how many times I've listened to this album, to the second "One Last Laugh In A Place Of Dying..." and to all the Sophia works... I've all the singles too ("Ego", "Home", "The Desert Song"), it has been one of the biggest conceptual rock band of all times, and one of the most painful looses...

  • I recently found their first album at the bottom of a box, I thought i'd lost it. so i thought i'd check them out of youtube, thanks for posting.

  • my absolute favourite band of the 90´s.

I still love the music. I was lucky to see them at the danish Roskilde Festival in ; In think, 1993? Amazing concert. they played all the songs from scenes from the.... Mind blowing!

  • Mindblowing concert. Especially when they left all their instruments on stage, in full feedback, at the end of the last track. So infinitely better than their albums.

  • Unfortunately in Italy they had to play in Milano but the show was cancelled, then they made only one show in "Carpe Diem" festival in Roma, with Rosetta Stone, Love Loke Blood and New Model Army... I can't believe they were not headliners (they close with the version of "What Time Is Love" by KLF, and so enough I was not there... I only saw Proper-Sheppard solo with Sophia songs, wonderful songs but God Machine left an unfillable void)

  • I was lucky enough to see them five or six times in 1990-92: at a pub in Gray's Inn, at the New Cross Falcon, at Reading 1990 and elsewhere (memory of 90s not so good). Absolutely amazing live: incredibly loud, tight and full of passion.

This is a beast of a song: love the bassline, love the brutal drums, question Robin's choice of shirt. And, yes, I agree with the previous poster who requested Pictures of a Bleeding Boy as your next video, whereishunter.

  • not one of but the best band of 90's,

I saw them twice in 93: a tsunami of sound

  • Fantastic..one of the greatest bands of the 90's...and Scenes From The Second Storey is a stone cold classic. Really regret never saw them live. Cheers for posting this and all the other stuff, much appreciated!

  • Agree with you 100%!! Never got the chance to see them live either.

  • Best live act I ever been to...Saw them in Enschede The Netherlands...They opened up for Living Color...Man...Living color sucked ass..God Machine took everyone there to another dimension! F#¤%&%g awsome!

  • Scenes from the Second Storey is one of the finest albums. Seven is amazing.

  • Best and most underrated rock band of all time. So fucking relaxing.

  • Totally amazing band! Pity it's so hard to find their double album "Scenes from the Second Storey" around now. Advise everyone look for it though...

  • Amazing band

  • My best and most surprising live experience ever. What a #6%%% fantastic band.

  • awesome ....abs shame ..not fair etc ...life is rubbish and this song makes it a fraction better...which is more than you say about a lot of things..

  • wow, never realised any of this stuff was on youtube until now. One of my favourite bands of the time and one of the best I've ever seen live. Criminally unknown/underrated.

Scenes from the Second Storey is also right up there with my top all-time albums. Such a shame, tragic really.

  • thanks man fukkin underated band.

  • God machine, God machine, God machine!

    Once, Unique, Forever

  • Epic, majestic stuff. A complete monster live.

    tragic what happened to Jimmy.

Thank you for posting this and the other clips.

  • My favorite band of the 90's.

Saw them play live 4 times.

Amsterdam, Den Haag, Eindhoven en Pukkelpop

  • same here; same locations, 4 times.

Just like seeing Neurosis in a small venue; mindblowing and everlasting

  • great band i was lucky enough to see them live in a small club they were fantastic badly missed band

  • I once played this and their cover of "All My Colours" to Jeffrey Lee Pierce, he was really impressed by the bass playing. RIP Jimmy.

  • Glastonbury '93. Scenes from the Second Story is a great album. Pissed me off, as they barely got started.

  • Such power and such a groove. Brilliant.

  • One of my favorite Bands and favorite piece of Music EVER.

  • Big and underrated band.

  • I haven't heard this song for 9 years. Wow! Made me sit up and listen, just like the first time. I left this album behind when I shipped to Basic Training, and never picked it up again when I left home. I spent many a lonely night doing push-ups, sit-ups and lifting weights, getting inspiration for my dissertation listening to this masterpiece. It made me get through the times when I was sucking hard. Great lyrics, great song, great band. Thank God for The God Machine! Rest in peace Jimmy!

  • Holy Shit, thanks for posting. I saw these guys at The Metro in Chicago. Incredible show.

  • 'scenes..'is the best record EVER.

  • this band were so underated, excellent, or is it just me?

  • Great Great

  • Awesome song!
