i totally agree with cfynes. the rest of the guys wanted to sound like weezer, but omar and ced wanted to move on and evolve. at the drive-in was amazing for their time, but the mars volta is unique.

plus, at the drive-in's music was based on a lot of the things they went through as teenagers. it was time for them to grow up.

I disagree with you when you said there's never been anyone who's been able to cover their songs with a good result. There's a local band in my area called Silian Rail who covers TMV songs every now and then and they do an amazing job.

I REALLY love old Floyd, especially Animals(one of the top concept albums of all time), and I love new floyd as well(although the Final Cut was terrible)

Roger waters was the emotional, writing and spiritual power behind Floyd, so yes after he left, Floyd was missing those elements, but they were still great without waters and some of my favourite songs come right off Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason

And what do you have against the slap bass? Are you curcifying them for adding some variation to a Live show?

Besides, I've FORCED friends watch a few songs from Pulse, only to have them go out and buy the DVD even though they weren't floyd fans.

Floyd is Classic Prog Rock at its finest, yes you won't hear Dream Theater/Meshuggah/Mars Volta/Crimson King style Prog rock but they are in no way minimalistic

I don't mean to criticize The Mars Volta because they are currently on the top of my list(I take that back, Pink Floyd will always be number one so let's say they are 2nd on my list after Floyd), and they are incredible musicians.
