The point about any cover version is that the artist is repecting another artist's or composer's wotk enough to do another version. This is relevant to the 2000s the same way Terry Reid's original was to the 60s. I'm just glad I've been around for both.

@bruxelleslibre Comments like these always frustrate me. Artists like Jack White aren't trying to out-do the songs they cover, they're paying tribute to the artists whose songs they're playing. Terry Reid's song isn't destroyed. You can listen to it any time. The Raconteurs just wanted to honour an influence by keeping his song alive, introducing his lyrics to another generation.

This song was written an done to perfection by Terry Reid. Jacks' arrangement is good but he can't hold a candle to Reids' raw vocal emotion. Jimmy Page first approached Reid to sing in his new group Led Zeppelin. Reid turned him down.

The rest, as the say, is history.........
