I watched a show were they examined a surfer get attacked and half a dozen dolphins help him they interview a dolphin expert & she said that she tested a dolphin & he could recognize himself in the mirror & that humans develop self recognition the same time they develop empathy .. @aubreyda I believe some of them must be preserved in captivity. It may sound bad, but it's very difficult to convince every single person on the planet to NOT kill wild Dolphins. Much too often, though, captive treatment is less than favorable.

I've also noticed, by the way people react to things such as this, that humans tend to only (or especially) care about an animal if it's "cute" or has some special ability that interests them.
