You can't be burning 87 octane gas with the timing set on 3.76 degrees, it won't allow the lifters time to set up with the power train. This is a direct result of bad engineering and not having the proper equipment in a small block, overhead cam, non-fuel injected, high intake manifold.

@iceman5X75 Why would a dry sump cause anything like this? If anything it'd be better since the oil is kept out of the motor so it wouldn't be as big of a fire. Not to mention the much much better oil control you get with a dry sump. Not really needed for tractor pulling, but dry sumps are better than wet sumps.

@NBSV1 one thing is theres alot of pressure going through those oil lines...one crack your fucked, id prefer a wet over a dry, just because they make things called engine containment devices, (engine diapers for short) its also a fact that you can gain alot more horsepower with a wet rather than a dry if you cut the gears in half for a wet sump...old super stock trick

righton BASSBONE , you can hear a sudden loss of drive, followed by the motors over-rev, unlucky! i bet the initial failure was fairly simple , shaft, spline etc.. but the result is a totally ruined drivetrain! oh well.... hope youre back pullin now....

I think maybe the drive shaft or transmission broke before the motor(s) went... if you watch carefully, its pulling the nose up until right before the motor(s) go. The nose drops then the motors over-rev (the driver has the thing at wide open throttle no doubt), so with no load, the motor(s)' speed shot up to the point of throwing themselves apart.

@bassbone1785 You're quite correct. What happened was that something in the driveline failed. The engines made too many revs and because of that, the left engines supercharger exploded. The supercharger wheel started sparking inside its housing and ignited the fuel mixture. The engine block itself stayed intact. Nowadays these engines run on full methanol which is injected above the cilinderheads so no fuel is injected in the supercharger and explosion like these don't happen anymore.

If you look at the video, you'll notice that the driveshaft or possibly gearbox breaks, and thus the engines over-rev and basically throw rods all over the place. A rev limiter would have saved it, no doubt.

There is no possible way you can see the driveshaft break. 100% of the driveshaft MUST be shielded. I dont think he broke the driveline. It looks like he unloaded the tires.. result was the same anyway. You lose power if you hit the rev limiter...most dont use them. The engines do not rev that much anyway in the vid. I'd say a worn out/ under built engine was as much to blame.

if you watch the video again, notice right before the explosion the front wheels are severely turned. And right when they dig in you can see the back wheels lift, and the motors rev. At full throttle the amount of fuel going through these motors is substantial, so when a motor that is built for low rpms suddenly hits 5500rpm at full throttle you get.........that.

The driver should have kept the front wheels straight and gradually turned

Certainly a product of overrev, but not necessarily of poor shifting. If you'll notice the tractor slammed down from the wheelie right before it blew up. The engine was forced to rotate after it seized for some reason and that's what caused the failure.

no it was something in the drivetrain. only reason why it looks like it bounced is theres so much weight on the back end and something in the trans wouldve gave out causing the tractor to over rev and make it bounce because it no longer has power to the back wheels. Clear as mud? lol

maybe so. the whole thing stopped pulling and the engine (at full throttle most likely) took off. could have been the clutch, transmission, differential if there is one. I think the motor blowing up was a secondary issue.
