I read,somewhere, that Dr's were reluctant to try to separate them because they had no means of telling if their organs,major blood vessels,etc were joined or separate--but after they died they found out that only a small vein was shared and they could have easily been separated probably right after birth! It makes you stop and realize the amount of knowledge gained, in medicine and surgery, only in about the last 80 years!!!

@drflyingscotsman I met one of the descendants, a young man, in Boone. A former boyfriend and I were there on vacation one summer and saw him in a local resturant. The old boyfriend lived in Greensboro NC and he and the descendant worked for RF Microdevices. I don't know if he is still there or not. I assume he lived nearby. Later on I met other family members at other events I attended with said ex boyfriend.

Omg how could they have had 2 wives for each twin? I bet those wives shared BOTH of them.
Well I'm pretty sure that if twins like them were alive today then they could easily be split.
