  • Wonderful recording and nice video.

  • Galveston!

  • Good video. Did you know Webb wrote that song with the Spanish-American War (1898) in mind? That was when Galveston was an up-and-coming major city before the Storm of 1900 hit.

  • auch in Deutschland ein großer HIT.

  • awesome...........................

  • What other song has an awesome bass solo!!!!

  • Only Glen Campbell could have sung this.

  • this is a great video effect firecircus!

i was gonna tell you it was a "turn of the centruy" effect but i take it you already knew that. LOL.

    great job on the video.

  • Great video for a great song.

  • Happy birthday Glen

  • I spent many Friday and Satiurday nightrs at the back of the Balinese. Gone forever!

    Long live Galveston!

  • Absolutely AWESOME song!! Great job by Glen!

  • Loved this. ***** Such memories! It was on the first album my young teen-age son ever bought. Then the rock-n-roll fever hit him and his next one was Led Zeplin..however you spell it.

    Naomi

  • He recorded many good songs!

  • Yes and this one is a classic!

  • good work here ....

  • made me nostalgic, nice video, seafood grill there is gone now, the balanese room gone, flagship unusuable, don't know if they have rebuilt murdocks or not. they had just remodeled a few years before ike. the statue to the thousands of dead form 1900 hurricane survived all these years, but was wiped out by IKE. Heck of a storm he was....

  • Murdoch's has been redeveloped - the building was completed October 2009 awaiting the Murdoch's Centennial in Spring 2010...

  • very nice job...

  • What a shame about the Balinese Room.

    I hope it comes back.

    The Flagship survived, didn't it?

  • A great song, nice vid, a beautiful place, beautiful memories, a happy time, I'd love to be back there now. Try: G C D7 G G7 C Am7 D7 G C Am7 D7 Em C G again then: Bb C Bb C Dm Bb Gm C7 F Am Dm Gm C D7 Thanks for posting this, Firecircus.
  • Timeless Jimmy Webb tune performed beautifully by Campbell. Video took a shot at creating nostalgia but current day autos and kid drinking from bottled water (unheard of in '69) were out of synch. Still, worth watching.

  • Let's see, first the hurricane that swept nearly 6000 souls out to sea in 1900, then across the intercoastal waterway in the 1950's at Texas City there was a gigantic oil refinery explosion and fire that killed hundred's followed by more hurricanes over the years---can you say "BAD KARMA".

  • I love this - loved watching the film clip - time does go by - so quickly too - but still a beautiful song.

  • that is a brilliant video, good job well done. reminded me of when my 16 year old was little.

  • Sadly, the Ocean Grill (later Hooters Galveston) was destroyed 9.13.08 along with the former Murdoch's and the Balinese)...

  • this is a cool song, but Galveston is the biggest shithole town i have ever been to.

  • glenn provided a bridge between my patriotism and youthful naivete with this tune.

  • that doesn't take much of a bridge

  • metaphorically, the bridge was the sympathy for the "universal soldier" the webb lyrics invoked in me.

  • Great song. Does anyone know the guitar chords for this song?

  • yes abc , dbc , double f , then a major f ...then abc then lower key ...nah sorry i dont have a clue lol

  • lol

  • I adore this. It is my favorite chilhood memories revisted. Thank You !

  • nice video... love the song and the town this kansas girl would move there tommorow if i could!

  • absolutely lovely!

  • Excellent a superb video! - Well Done.

  • A superb post!

  • Great song!! Brings back such wonderful memories of my childhood. When I'm having a rough day, When I play this song, I drift back to a time when I was happy and carefree.

  • my best memory of galveston is the very pretty latina working at whataburger

  • Eva Longoria Parker used to work at Whataburger in Corpus Christi,Tx before she was a famous actress.

  • My last trip to Galveston was Sept 06. Had no idea 2 yrs later it would be wiped out. I have always had a wonderful visit there.

  • That was also the first and last time my wife and I ever visited. We wanted to visit after Hurricane Rita nearly hit it. Like you, we had no idea what would happen but that town is always in the cross hairs.Stayed at LaQuinta on the west beach but it was not a pleasant hotel. Went up and down the beach and it was very muggy....condensation was everywhere.

  • Very touching film...very beautiful song.....

    God Bless You, Galveston....

  • Ive always loved this song its so moving make's me feel good inside.

Well done for putting the video on here!!

All the best from East Anglia England :)

  • The song truly is a wonderful sentimant to the city of Galvaston ... but listen a bit closer .. it's about a young man going off to war (VietNam most likley). His last vision besids teh city is the young woman he's in love with wondering about her while he's in the midst of battle fearing death and not ever seeing his beloved city or girl again

  • This literally brings tears to my eyes. I grew up 50 miles from Galveston and have so many memories of that great place including listening to this song. I have heard that Huricane Ike took the Balanese Room.

God bless you Galveston, Point Boliver, Chrystal Beach, Gilchrist and High Island

  • I live in Galveston now, I have 5 foot of water in my house every building that was over the water is GONE :(

  • I would have loved to grow up with good music like this everywhere on the radio....

  • Suggestion: Next time, try not to build your city on a barrier island.

  • God Bless the people of Galveston

  • Such a great place...it'll come back just like my hometown of New Orleans will. It's all about the spirit of the people.

  • To the people in Galveston-Hang in there.

  • Well done! Nice faux vintage production.

  • She is not waiting today...With the hurricane coming and all....

  • timeless classic - thanks for posting!

  • Wonderful vid! What did you film this with?

  • Thanks for saying that... to answer your question - the footage was recorded using an Archos AV380 using the camera attachment. This records straight to mp4. Editing was done using a program called 'muvee' which ages and synchs the film to music. All very basic but dead simple and produces good results (after a bit of trial and error). Have a look at some of the other vids I've put on You Tube... all done the same way.

    Cheers, Mark.
