I'd take the White Album (as i think it's the Beatle's worst) out and stick Dark Side of the Moon in. Also London Calling isn't that great either. I'd switch Rubber Soul with Sgt Pepp's to make it better.
Zeppelin iv deserves a spot. I'm all for the Beatles my favorite band but I think pet sounds should be #1 it's a fucking masterpiece and the first time I listened through it it changed my life for the better!!!!
I always thought that Revolver was better than Sgt. Pepper's but oh well...
And Abbey Road and Dark Side Of The Moon and Led Zeppelin IV isn't even on here?! I know they couldn't put every album in the top ten here but come on!!
This list isn't really bullshit. These are all EXCELLENT albums. I'm surprised that with the amount of influential bands and albums out there that they could narrow it down to 50, let alone 10. And The Beatles definitely deserve to have 4 up there, especially Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, which is one of my favorite albums. I'm surprised that they had the guts to put Pet Sounds as #2 but I completely agree. The video has great song choice too!
Does anyone else find it ironic that The Beatles got almost half of this list and the magazine is named after The Anti-Beatles? (i.e. Rolling Stones if you didn't know...)
When I said Anti-Beatles i was talking about mainly what their songs talk about you know, the Beatles are more gentle in their lyrics and the rolling stones are more like... a "bad boy" sort of attitude..
This is straight from Rolling Stone...personally i think The Beatles deserve the positions they got, they are the most influential band of all time and if there were no Beatles there would be no Zeppelin, Mettalica, AC/DC ETC...
@puffleop I love Pink Floyd but to me their albums are very "moody". And let's face it, when most of the songs you write last 10 to 15 minutes you're in trouble!!
@wim133 I read the rolling stones magazine to see if this list was actually true... and IT WAS!! so dont go thinking this was posted by a Beatles fan. you need some that it was...idiot.
Rolling Stone rated a Britney Spears album with 4 out of 5 stars. That gets them to be about as much an authority on anything rock as an elderly Lithuanian nun, and this list shows that. Jan Wiener promotes anyone who pays well and has no taste for music nor a clue about anything rock.
AC/DC's Back In Black has sold over 45 million albums, Fleetwood Mac outsold the Beatles, they have sold the most albums ever that a band has managed to sell, Fleetwood should be on the list
@Dragonshouter If you consider an album to be significant because of how many copies it has sold than you are much more hopeless than this naive, nonsensical list.
i hate rolling stones bias against pink floyd. they refuse to acknowledge them for anything theyve done, in RS top 100 artist of all time PF didnt make it, in RS top 500 songs of all time the highest PF song is comfortably numb around #350.....does this really seem right? they refuse to acknowlegde some of PF's albums as some of the best in history when they clearly are (Dsotm, the wall).
Strange. Other RS compilations of greatest albums have always included Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. Four Beatles albums? Exile as the Stone's greatest?
@upurs543210 what a load of shit... fair enough with pink floyd but your saying Metallica had more of an impact on music than The Beatles which is complete shite
I agree with u those 2 albums are great but, Sgt. pepper still was the main influence for so many bands at the time.
And i agree with dynasta34, i think master of puppets or ride the lightning are better than the black album, as for Pink Floyd, their early records were most creative and interesting than Dark side of the moon...
Problems is they should put just one album for each band, there's too many beatles and bob dylans albums
@upurs543210 WHAT!!!?? Without The Beatles ... Floyd whould never had been and its foolish to say any album had bigger effect on people than Sgt. Pepper

1.Led Zepplin 4~Led Zepplin
Glam Metal should Be more apprieceated 80s are Probaby The best Musical peiriod Then 70s Now, I dont HATE the Beatles But They are On Of the most overrated bands
I don't think any albums are the "greatest" ever, but some of my favorites would be: The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails The Bends - Radiohead Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd No More Tears - Ozzy Osbourne Ready to Die - Notorious B.I.G. Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers Dirt - Alice in Chains The Eminem Show - Eminem Hypnotize - System of a Down Superunknown - Soundgarden In my opinion the '90s was the best decade for music though.
10. nevermind - nirvana 9.rage against the machine - rage against the machine 8.acthung baby - U2 7.who's next - the who 6.ten - pearl jam 5.the velvet underground & nico - the velvet underground 4.the doors - the doors 3.the wall - pink floyd 2.revolver - the beatles and at num.1! 1.OK computer - radiohead yay!
10. blow up your video - AC/DC 9. let there be rock - AC/DC 8. dirty deeds don dirt cheap - AC/DC 7. high voltage - AC/DC 6. for those about to rock we salute you - AC/DC 5. stiff upper lip - AC/DC 4. black ice - AC/DC 3. highway to hell - AC/DC 2. powerage - AC/DC 1. back in black - AC/DC
I love The Beatles but not enough to put three of their albums in the top 10. My top 10 is: 10. Nevermind - Nirvana 9. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd 8. Synchronicity - The Police 7. The Joshua Tree - U2 6. Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith 5. Hotel California - The Eagles 4. The Wall - Pink Floyd 3. Boston - Boston 2. Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin 1. Who's Next - The Who Number eleven for me is probably Achtung Baby by U2 because I like Nevermind just a little bit better!
@CMD9889 I love that you put The Wall ahead of Dark Side for Pink Floyd. The Wall's my all time favorite album, yet Dark Side gets all the love from people. I still like it, but I still think The Wall was much better.
@CMD9889 I love that you put The Wall ahead of Dark Side for Pink Floyd. The Wall's my all time favorite album, yet Dark Side gets all the love from people. I still like it, but I still think The Wall was much better.
@dynasta34 of course, this is all opinion :) but if we are talking pink floyd, the wall was a weak album as far as the sound of the true pink floyd. meddle, is a much better album if you want to credit collaboration. dsotm as a whole is what set pink floyd ahead and above, a true concept album. don’t get me wrong, I love the wall and it to has it’s own place, but it is over driven in message and limited emotion. compare to sound on saucerful of secrets. now that is pink floyd.
@dynasta34 No one ever considers "Atom Heart Mother" - the suite is virtually orchestral and the album, to me, includes some of their finest compositions.
@H4S707 your right the wall is weak compared to what came before by pink floyd even dark side of the moon isnt a saucer full of secrets even though its the biggest seller in history rolling stone is retarded pet sounds came before sargent peper mojo magazine picked pet zounds as number 1 .[rolling stone said phil ochs was a troubador? ]
@spacepatrolman trust me, I love the beatles, but I think they are placed to heavily in these lists (and let's be honest, these lists mean nothing) But there are hundreds of artists, they all have their place. Certain groups, certain albums really pushed the envelope and changed it all. How can you place a number on them? Some bands were influnced by some and not by others. And I don't think rolling stones knows what a troubador is.
@spacepatrolman day in the life is (in my opinion) one of their more forward thinking experiments, and how wonderful that turned out! I woulnd't call 5 minutes extra long, but for a beatles song, yeah, maybe.
@CPRCRRSC I've changed my list from when I made that comment 2 months ago. Now, I would add on The Doors, Help!, Superunknown, and others. I still don't completely get what you mean by "Not very versatile."
@GeorgeHarrison00 Yeah. I would actually agree with you. I made that comment 5 months ago, when I was a youngin. I have changed my mind, and now I say The Beatles ARE the best band ever. But I might change my mind again. Maybe sometime soon. You never know...
clearly the complete wrong list. this is the correct list. 1.Led Zeppelin 4 2.Led zeppelin physical graphiti 3.Led zeppelin 3 4.Led Zeppelin 2 5.Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy 6.Led Zeppelin 1 7.Led Zeppelin Presence 8.Led Zeppelin In through the out door 9.Led Zeppelin Coda 10.mmmmmmmmmmmmm........ irrelevant
@Stratocaster21st1994 Haha except for one problem. Rolling Stone absolutely hated Led Zeppelin. In fact, Cameron Crowe was the only writer for Rolling Stone during that era that said anything positive about them.
@dynasta34 Thats sad. Hating Led Zeppelin WOW Thats Probably Why They put Jimmy Page 9TH on Rolling Stone top 100 Guitarists of all time and by that list they probably LOVE The Beatles xD
@Swiftydrummer29 sure nirvana are the best band in the world ever, HOWEVER thats only cause i love every single nirvana song ever not because theyre singular albums were top 10 worthy. Pink floyd hahahha u must be kidding they are the worste band in the world ever. And dookie didnt have good enough lyrics at the end of the day nimrod was probably a better album and american idiot was certainly better. jesus of suburbia, the best song in like the last 10 years
@thelibertines91 wow... Nevermind is def. one of the best... It has over half the album as singles... and PINK FLOYD IS ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS EVER! and Dookie was like what GOT GREENDAY STARTED
@Swiftydrummer29 why you going on so much about singles, exile on main st only had 2 singles on a 18 song cd and its the best album ive ever heard. ive own every album u mentioned
@scillac whats your problem you stupid fuck, have an open mind. How about u go listen to it then say it doesnt brighten ur day to listen to. There is no better band for the summer and u can suck my sandals
about a week ago i was looking at the publishing stuff at the back of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. it says at the end of all the publishing stuff "a splendid time is guarunteed for all" i smiled and thought dam straight it does

@CMD9889 I love that you put The Wall ahead of Dark Side for Pink Floyd. The Wall's my all time favorite album, yet Dark Side gets all the love from people. I still like it, but I still think The Wall was much better.

dynasta34 1 year ago
@dynasta34 ya think that was the best pink floyd album
MrMotleycruefan2010 1 year ago
@dynasta34 of course, this is all opinion :) but if we are talking pink floyd, the wall was a weak album as far as the sound of the true pink floyd. meddle, is a much better album if you want to credit collaboration. dsotm as a whole is what set pink floyd ahead and above, a true concept album. don’t get me wrong, I love the wall and it to has it’s own place, but it is over driven in message and limited emotion. compare to sound on saucerful of secrets. now that is pink floyd.
H4S707 1 year ago
@H4S707 I believe the Wall is very emotional. I love the wall because it emotionally reached out to me more than any other Pink Floyd album
I understand where you're coming from though. I can see why DSOTM is seen as better. Its an album that was way ahead of its time.
dynasta34 1 year ago
@dynasta34 No one ever considers "Atom Heart Mother" - the suite is virtually orchestral and the album, to me, includes some of their finest compositions.
zegjdfghdlg 1 year ago
@H4S707 your right the wall is weak compared to what came before by pink floyd even dark side of the moon isnt a saucer full of secrets even though its the biggest seller in history rolling stone is retarded pet sounds came before sargent peper mojo magazine picked pet zounds as number 1 .[rolling stone said phil ochs was a troubador? ]
spacepatrolman 1 year ago
@spacepatrolman trust me, I love the beatles, but I think they are placed to heavily in these lists (and let's be honest, these lists mean nothing) But there are hundreds of artists, they all have their place. Certain groups, certain albums really pushed the envelope and changed it all. How can you place a number on them? Some bands were influnced by some and not by others. And I don't think rolling stones knows what a troubador is.
H4S707 1 year ago
@H4S707 i still like within you and without you and a day in the life was probably the first extra long experimental song
spacepatrolman 1 year ago
@spacepatrolman day in the life is (in my opinion) one of their more forward thinking experiments, and how wonderful that turned out! I woulnd't call 5 minutes extra long, but for a beatles song, yeah, maybe.

@CPRCRRSC I've changed my list from when I made that comment 2 months ago. Now, I would add on The Doors, Help!, Superunknown, and others. I still don't completely get what you mean by "Not very versatile."

@CMD9889 The Beatles are the best band of all time nothing can surpass their talent

@GeorgeHarrison00 Yeah. I would actually agree with you. I made that comment 5 months ago, when I was a youngin. I have changed my mind, and now I say The Beatles ARE the best band ever. But I might change my mind again. Maybe sometime soon. You never know...

@Stratocaster21st1994 Haha except for one problem. Rolling Stone absolutely hated Led Zeppelin. In fact, Cameron Crowe was the only writer for Rolling Stone during that era that said anything positive about them.
dynasta34 1 year ago
@dynasta34 Thats sad. Hating Led Zeppelin WOW Thats Probably Why They put Jimmy Page 9TH on Rolling Stone top 100 Guitarists of all time and by that list they probably LOVE The Beatles xD
