Well I know you posted this like two years ago but if you didn't already hear NYS is officially the 6th state to legalize gay marriage that's right its true its a proud time to be a part of the lgbt community.
I think the main reason same-sex marriage is being rejected over and over is that people really think the issue boils down to public opinion. They think if they (or the majority) don't like it, then they can reject it. What they don't get with all their talk about the constitution is that it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL to allow the public to deny this basic civil right, because once you remove religion (and the constitution demands you do), that's what it is, a civil rights issue.
sometimes it makes me sad. I don't understand why we live in a world where gay people want the right to be married. Call it something else don't have a wedding. Im all for equal rights let them have them. But don't take the tradition of marraige from our culture. it's all we have left. why don't you people ever look at it from the majorities perspective?

Either only couples with kids get tax breaks, which means man-woman couples don't get any tax benefits before they have children and reduces marriages to a certificate of having children or all couples who commit to their relationship get the tax benefits, gay or straight.

In England, a straight couple is suing to get a civil union instead of a marriage in order to protest the inequality of civil unions. Why isn't that happening here in the civil union states? At first I was like "YA! why aren't they?" but then I remembered that I used a loophole to get married to my wife. Technically she and I had a straight marriage, which was my way of giving a big "fuck you" to the government, but was also the only what that she and I could get the rights we need to start a family... If I can't even do it then I have a hard time expecting other people to boycott marriage.

We have the same kind of marriage, bits missing and all! In the UK this means that if I ever go far enough to qualify for a "F" on my documentation I would have to pay a fortune for a divorce then apply for a civil partnership within an impossibly small time frame and this is all because the government did not think there would ever be more than a few of these cases! Now they know they will not rewrite the legislation to allow a conversion. As for allowing F2F marriage, pigs might fly!

New York is overrated as a liberal state.
The Illinois legislature abolished the state's sodomy laws in 1962. Connecticut was next to do so in 1971.
They were on the books in New York until 1980 when ruled unconstitutional in the case People v. Onofre .

I agree. Why aren't straight people boycotting weddings and marriages? In England, a straight couple is suing to get a civil union instead of a marriage in order to protest the inequality of civil unions. Why isn't that happening here in the civil union states? Why is no one doing that? Why aren't HUNDREDS of straight couples doing that?

At first I was like "YA! why aren't they?" but then I remembered that I used a loophole to get married to my wife. Technically she and I had a straight marriage, which was my way of giving a big "fuck you" to the government, but was also the only what that she and I could get the rights we need to start a family... If I can't even do it then I have a hard time expecting other people to boycott marriage.

I hear ya, and I guess I can't say with 100% certainty that if I were in your shoes I wouldn't do the same thing, especially if I could send a big F-U to the gov while doing it.
But in the end, I think it's wrong for str8s to take advantage of a right that's being denied to others. Not horribly wrong, not the gravest of sins, but the right thing to do is to boycott. I know not everyone can or would, but it would be so nice if a significant portion started to!!! That's all I'm sayin'. :)

We have the same kind of marriage, bits missing and all! In the UK this means that if I ever go far enough to qualify for a "F" on my documentation I would have to pay a fortune for a divorce then apply for a civil partnership within an impossibly small time frame and this is all because the government did not think there would ever be more than a few of these cases! Now they know they will not rewrite the legislation to allow a conversion. As for allowing F2F marriage, pigs might fly!

Because as much as you think NYC is a liberal city, it's really not. Rudy Giuliani was mayor of NYC for 8 years as a Republican, and Bloomberg, an independent, has been the mayor for 3 years, so far. Most of NY state is full of republicans, kinda like PA outside of Pittsburgh and Philly.
