Say the average fair was 10.25ish (between cash, ez pass peak and offpeak), and the average traffic was 120,000 cars. The city is taking in a little over 1.2 million a DAY. 450 million a year. Tunnel paid off in roughly 72 days. Amazing investment!

I was born and raised in New York and I'm pissed that the jerk bloomberg did this. What was it his business to close down streets and avenues in Times Square? He's just a bastard.

@2000newyorkcity I have to say, I was slightly pissed to find out that I couldn't continue driving down Broadway through Times Square like I used to be able to. That really messed up this video, since my original intention was to drive through the heart of TS to film. However, I can't speak for certain on this, but I think the closure of Broadway has greatly improved traffic flow through the area.

It has. The city's done multiple studies that have shown that traffic flow downtown on 7th Ave has been dramatically improved. West 42nd Street remains a disaster. I'm not sympathetic to those that complain about the closures there or in Herald Square and Union Square. This is not a car city, and never should be. More than three-quarters of New Yorkers don't even OWN cars.

@CosmoPhotography Yes, a tripod over the passenger seat is a good idea - only when you are driving with nobody on your side. Ever considered using a windshield or dashboard mount?

@fleXcope I don't think that's practical for me, because I use a Canon 7D DSLR camera to film that is quite heavy and bulky when a lens is attached.

@localdriver Thanks for your feedback. I'm always looking for ways to improve the viewing experience, so I'll definitely see what I can do about that. I believe having background music is an integral part of the video, so, in in my opinion, doing voice-overs would greatly detract from the viewing experience. Also, I don't think anyone would want to hear my voice anyway...LOL :-) Thanks again for your comment!

I'm going back this Christmas and plan on getting Fifth Ave, Lower Manhattan (WTC Site, Tribeca, Battery Park City), Little Italy/SoHo/Chinatown, and portions of Brooklyn and Queens on film. That was such an exhilarating ride through Times Square, and enjoyed it, as I visited NYC(finally) 2 years ago. My only small wish is that you could have filmed 44th St. and/or 45th St. where NYC's theater district is based on, but won't hold that against you, since you covered the rest of Times Square well.

It is still weird to think they closed off Broadway to traffic through Times Square, since that change was only implemented months before I visited NYC in summer 2009. Great vid!

There is no other city in world like NYC the five boroughs, Manhattan,Staten Island, The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn all make up NYC. in the air looks like a mega city bigger than LA downtown but i think not bigger in area as LA. I think Mexico City still the Largest city in Population in world
