Its funny watching people argue over something which they don't understand. This style of music is simply meant as tools for mixing with other tracks. Layer this track over something else and it will open the 3rd eye! its pure sonic gold. Techno is for layering with multiple tracks, techno artists don't just mix a track with the breakdown like a lot of other styles do. Its an artform all to itself. If you want harmony add it, this track has all the percussion to get the dancefloor going nuts.

I will never in my life forget dancing to this entire track, at Richie's infamous birthday party in the barn in Canada. The crowd was seriously going CRAZY as this track just built and built and built. The subtle addition of the kick drum around 6 minutes gives me the chills every time. :)

Oh...and for those who have no idea what dynamic phase music is...each single instument track constantly shifts in phase and tempo, sometimes strikingly, sometimes subtly, with all the other instument tracks so the entire piece is constantly evolving, never static or constantly repetitive. Time plays a huge part in the piece because it is to be seen as a constant evolution, almost organic. it may just sound like noise to the uninitiated...but it is very very hard to achieve harmony in the chaos.

Me personally...I would rate him as a minimalist producer along with the likes of Steve Reich....who pioneered dynamic phase shifting music and precussion structures in pieces like Electric Counterpoint and the simple but brilliant Clapping Music. If you do not get the almost trance inducing qulaities of dynamic phase music which Spastik is a definite form of....you dont get Hawtin...full stop!!! It is music for the mind...not the heart or subjective...therein lies the love it or hate it divide.

Spastik is on the whole a phasing masterpiece....Hawtin is a very talented producer and although he may not have any discernable musical talent...he will never get into Julliard or play Carnegie Hall but those are not his arenas and not where his talent lies....he is a sonic scientist and although that may sound systematic and overly formulaic it still requires talent and a strong understanding of a very difficult form of sonic balance and harmony to pull off.

Some people on here just have no idea why some people just have an affinity for stripped down minimalist techno. The dynamic phase shifting in Minimalist Techno and even mimimalist orchestral pieces is actually very hard to achieve because the differing dynamics of each instrument and each phasing in completely different time to one another is very hard to achieve a harmonious whole...if you screw one intrumental phase up the whole thing goes to pot.
