  • excellent music

  • Best game i've ever played!

  • best game ever! i love the art direction, the humour, and most of all GUYBRUSH!!!

  • WickedJ133 , have you tried downloading ScummVM and running the game on it?

  • @SpitamaFan Huh? Why didn't i think of that, i'm going to try it right now

  • Do you have a legit copy of the game? if so, you think you could help me with something? I bought an original copy just today because i happened to find one and im having troubles to run it. I installed it, tried to run it in DOSBox but i got a message: "Scriptline 130 not in room 108" on Lucasarts' site they had a fix for that but after installing the fix, nothing changed, still getting the message.

  • I miss monkey Island!

  • this game is also to fucking hard! i cant get past the bit with soiling largos clothes so im just gonna look for a walkthrough. also the statement 'i like this game' i was actually refering to MI 1 cause this one sucks

  • i like this game but i have to say broken sword was the best kind of point and click!

  • LOVE the music where they're sat round the fire at the start!

  • Star Wars (iv-vi), indy jones, ILM, THX, Pixar...all these things represent the greatness that once was George Lucas. Monkey Island 2 belongs on that list. (As for his post 1997 work, I am just baffled.)

  • even after all these years, this is STILL my favourite game ever, bar none

  • @Industrialfolk

Agreed! Best. Game. Ever! I was 11 when i bought this game secondhand, or rather my parents did as a christmas present. I hadn't played Monkey Island 1, but i had played through Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (another sublime Lucasarts classic), but this game just blew me away: so many frustrating, but pleasurable moments spent banging my head into the wall trying to solve the puzzles!

  • @SpitamaFan haha, we must be roughly the same age; I remember Fate of Atlantis too - can't agree with you more, oh, the early 90's - when Lucas Arts ruled the world, thanks for the post

  • even after all these years, this is STILL my favourite game ever, classic

  • Oh my God! I remember this game!! I get a weird feeling just thinking about the purple text :D

  • memories :)

  • Old games always have the best music. I feel sorry for today's kid who'll probably never get to know it.

  • Why'd you have to take Wally's eye piece? You asshole.

  • what differences have the pc version (despite the vga colors)?

  • It would be funny if the 2 pirates at the beginning said "you mean... one piece!"

  • Pelle d'oca...

  • love how they have the same song intro for all their games

  • really like the sound of that sound card

  • great music in this game, i still remember it vividly after 15 yrs :)

  • Poor graphics?!?!?!?!? , get an education in gaming. It's about GAMEPLAY not graphics, Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty could only hope to be as innovative as Monkey Island!

  • Indeed. I pity the younger generations in their attitude toward older games.

  • I am only 23 but Monkey Island was one of the first games I ever played, so many gamers now have not even heard of it

  • @lNVlCTUS

I agree that graphics don't matter, but those 3 games you noted are in a different genre.

  • @lNVlCTUS I agree with you 100%. But then again you've gotta see this in a different perspective. It's all about the gameplay and kids today and kids in future generations probably find point and clicking boring, they simply can't comprehend the true value of these games, just like we can't really comprehend the value of the very first pong game (assuming we didn't live in that time)

  • My opinion, CMI, MI2, MI and then the others just arent that great. The graphics of Tales and Escape just look bad and should have been done in the style of the MI special edition or CMI, this need for 3d is not good at all. Bring on LeChucks Revenge Special Edition.

  • I have seen that before and its very impressive. Funny that an amateur project looks about 100 times better than the last few monkey island games that have come out, not funny...shocking lol. I would love it if the games looked like that instead of the poor quality 3d they keep using now

  • Tales has WAY BETTER graphics than Escape...at least, more similar to the cartoony CMI

  • @lNVlCTUS So, how do you feel about the recent re-do of LeChuck's Revenge?

  • @Bloodlyshiva - I think its excellent. Could not have hoped for anything better, new graphics look excellent and not cheap like Monkey Island 4 onwards. I like being able to play classic mode with voices and also point and click options, its worth the purchase even though I already have MI2 on my comp :P

  • Fantastic game!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stop whining, we've been waiting for years for another monkey island game and all you can do is moan. Telltale did a good job, this was the first game I ever played

  • No, no they really didn't dave grossman, and ron gilbert both worked on it.

  • You're missing a few sound effects and stuff in this video. ;/

  • Such as?

  • For one thing, the spitting sounds in the bar. Only appears a few times.

  • the voices?

  • woot. version with music xD

  • They all had music. ;)

  • bests (i mean all MI) graphic adventures EVER!!!

  • I played MI 1 and 2 to death back on the 386! Does anyone know where I can find a PC download of both games?

  • You can get Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition on Steam

  • In all honestly. As with most adventure games, it plays best on PC (yes I've played both Amiga & PC versions). There's little to no difference (except for music maybe). Esp. later games such as Fate of Atlantis shine on PC. But in the end it doesn't really matter.

  • I think these kinds of discussions are usually based on what you played first. Graphics are almost exactly the same, and the only true difference is the music, which can be argued as simply being opinion. I could be wrong though, I never played the Amiga version :P

  • @Yodude1017 right basically...the PC version kickd the amiga versions ass cuz the pc version had WAY more music in it...enough said :)

  • I prefer some of the Amiga music, however the Amiga version has some of the PC music cut, and the 256 colour graphics were reduced to 32 for the Amiga's OCS hardware.

A stock Amiga 500 or 1200 also runs this game much slower than the PCs of the time did, and without a harddrive you are looking at 11 floppies to swap.

Luckily, ScummVM can run both versions with ease.

  • Mequa32. The game does not run any slower than this on A1200. And why are you comparing a PC with hard drive with an Amiga without harddrive? :) Can you even play it on a PC without a harddrive? PC version is much better with better midi soundfont for PC using ScummVM. Amiga version had better music. But it should have been much better.

  • The Amiga version was hard drive installable if you had an Amiga hard drive (I had and still have mine to this day).

The A1200's AGA chipset could have handled a 256 colour version, however this was never produced for the Amiga, and would have required even more floppies.

Since the stock A1200's 68EC020 CPU was clocked at 14MHz, it definitely ran slower than on a 386. Indy 4 was even slower.

The PC floppy version required a hard drive install, as hard drives were standard on PCs but not Amigas.

  • the fact is screen scrolling was even better than a 486 or a quad-core pentium on a 7mhz A500. Sometimes animation would become slow. But that was not the case on a 020 14mhz. They didn't produce AGA versions because people didn't upgrade to 1200's and harddrives and instead rapidly switch to much inferior PC's. As a result game companies turned their attention to PC's and people began upgrading PC's rapidly. You also could use many faster CPU's with Amiga.

  • @Maasaa2000 I think you're wrong.

Graphics have more colours on PC, and music is far better too (they're more of it).

More voices too (4 for the amiga, 11+1 on PC), better sounds, better arrangments.

Besides, the game was designed for PC.

But Amiga version is good, and it's a good conversion.

Music on amiga (for this game) cannot compare to the PC version.

  • The one time Elain comes off as dumb, she has time, but doesn't realize that Guybrush doesn't.

  • I don't think she comes off as dumb. She comes across in a manner that screams 'ex-girlfriend'; she doesn't mind him dangling there, telling the story to her, after three days of hanging by the rope.

  • But she doesn't seem to realize that the rope could brake at any time.

  • Looks to me as if she didn't care.

  • One of my favorote games of all time, both monkey island one and 2.

  • KULT!!!

  • man i loved this game so much back in the day thx for posting!

  • Were you running this with SCUMMVM? I've got the CD version and there's only one mode, but when I run it with SCUMMVM it gives me the option of lite or normal modes...

  • No, this was run in DOSBox. It's much easier to record that way.

  • is monkey island 3 the first with voice acting?

  • Yes

  • This isn't spam, its my own message.

  • plz plz do number 3 plz

  • Sure, I'm going to do it this weekend. Maybe president's day.

  • THANKS!!!!

  • Might take a little longer, probably by next week though.

  • is this the lite version or the regular mode

  • Since this is the "Monkey Madness" version, and not the disk version, this is the regular mode. I believe you know the finer points of each version, so I will not go into detail. Thanks for the comment!

  • Yeah! There it is. The Amiga Version of MI1 rocked more than the PC-Version. But in case of MI2 it is the other way round. The music on PC is much much more better. On Scabb Island, how it transits when changing locations is brilliant :)

  • I could do the first one if you wanted me to.

  • no need to. got scummVM now ;)

  • Great job!!
