@KurtCanWearADress ummm i just watched the original of this film and they both have nothing in common with eachother. They just have the same name. You say this movie is garbage but I can honestly say ur version is shit.
FUCK YES. Thank god for you Youtube... I just came home from having a shitty night, was in the mood for a good slacker era 90s golden age flick... Suburbia came to mind. Then I realized my VHS wasnt hooked up, hopped on here and BAM. Did they ever release this classic on DVD yet?!?!
@ZachArgo i cant relate to either band is why. Some people can some cant, im one who cant hence my dislike. Musically radiohead is bland but i like bland music sometimes but the "bland" music i like i relate too. Not a big deal just preference
This movie plays so differently in a post 9/11 America. The racism seems kind of restraint compared to how those same sentiments would be conveyed nowadays by certain bigoted Texan citizens.
@DickMohawk1 alot of the frustrations and ideology of early punk even 80's punk is reflected in the characters in this movie...conforming, town struggle, discrimination, racism, free thinking, trying to avoid the stereotype, though that isnt the MAIN focus of the movie but it is deff part of the makings of the movie. @DickMohawk1 ok ok, you have a problem here, there is also another movie called suburbia, that one its actually about punk rock ,that movie is fromm 84,and bands like TSOL, DI plays in it, and this one is from 96!
@OriginalMindTrick ya i agree, i always love the 7:05 mark when tims first appearance in the movie happens and NWO starts playing...dont get much cooler than a new age 90's james dean lookin guy drinkin a 40 at 11pm or so behind a gas station. Bunch of poseurs all on this abomination of a movie's nuts like it's really apart of the punk movement. Sorry! Your about 3 decade's late? This movie seriously, is a joke.
why do they always have to screw up a good movie by making a remake 10 years later ??
they did it with this then they did it with nightare on elm street and then with clashh of the titans ...
sure the originals are pretty bad acting and special effect wise BUT production (even in the 80's) was pretty bad its not until thw 2000s and onward that movies start to be and look very good
use to hang at the store in this movie it was filmed down the road from my house the store is gone now its kind ghetto around there now illegals from mexico mostly
@SinfulxVampire I live in Ireland, if that has anything to do with releases, or whatever - but try your local gamestop, or even give one a ring - their stock should be universal; it was definetely it, as I looked at the back of the DVD and chuckled as it brought me back in time to my youth.
I have this movie on video. It's my fav movie...It's funny because I got this video from a friend and it has a Blockbuster Video sticker on it...and its ironic because there a scene where Buff say "I got this video camera that ripped off at the mall..." I know that my friend din't buy the video from Blockbuster...he just never returned it...and now its mine. Even if I tried to return it to Blockbuster I'm sure they wouldn't care...with DVD's an all now.
Again, thanks for the upload. I'm here to watch it again. I feel like Ribisi's character so much. Questioning everything. Arguing for the sake of arguing. How he feels like he's been left behind and is being left behind by the people he grew up with, who've gone on to do something with their lives. And it's only because of that against-the-grain "punk" mindset which drives most of us to rebel against the typical "get a job" and "become a part of society" lifetime "trap".
Oh, I forgot. He doesn't actually express that he feels left behind, but you have to at least suspect it. His objection towards his girlfriend going to New York and his explosion on Pony for showing up the way he did.
watching this film always reminds me of the late 80's / early 90's punk scene that i was a part of ...with going to basement shows, writing zines, trading 7-inch records, listening to bands like jawbreaker, bikini kill, propagandi, descendents, crimpshrine, sonic youth, the replacements, the promise ring, texas is the reason, etc..
the film deals with something totally different but i still feel like it gives a nod to the indie & punk scene of that time and place.
thanks for the upload. I think my VHS copy was "accidentally" donated to goodwill following some Spring cleaning.
I sorely miss this movie, even though it has been awhile since I've seen it. I used to rent it over and over and over and over again from my local video store. I think I literally watched it 100's of times during high school. Was just a compulsion to watch it. Of course, I really identified w/ Jeff and Tim (to a lesser extent). The store manager = awesome too.
ive been trying to buy this movie all over the net and can find it nowhere...except on friggin vhs! thank you sooo much for posting on here....now at least I can watch it on youtube.
@ryansullivan626 I actually didn't notice it, the part where Bee Bee is in front otf the mirror looking at her face like she is stripping, that part was removed it looks like. It just wasn't in this film.
@JacHell666 well, regardless of what it seems like to you, it's a great film. It's based on a screenplay by a guy named Eric Bogosian... a really angsty screen play all about a bunch of 20-something's struggling with finding some meaning and direction in their lives (or avoiding it, in the case of Tim... and maybe Buff). What's more, this movie is directed by Richard Linklater, a film GOD if you didn't know. You know.. Waking Life? Dazed and Confused? Before Sunrise/Sunset? Yeah, *THAT* guy...
@fackinrankor -- yes, very beautiful. I can only watch those two gems once in awhile or I find myself feeling very melancholy/alone =P
Oh, and RE: your other comment on pt.13, I read the play back when this film was released, but can't remember how different it is. I think the play reads "funnier"/blacker while the movie leaves you with a lot more sympathy toward the characters.
I think the ending is the same though (could be wrong), with a thick sense of ambiguity hanging in the air. ;^^

I live in a metropolis while my family who ran out of here kicking and screaming moved to the suburbs. The opening sequence to this movie made me feel so bad for them.
I can't believe they did a remake of this movie. The original was a classic, and, how could you make a punk movie in the 90's anyway. There weren't any punks left in the 90's!
suburbia from the 80s and subUrbia from the 90s are 100% different films -- this one that has been uploaded was originally a play written by Eric Bogosian that then became a movie.
you can access wikipedia and imdb, like the rest of the free world, can't you?
Steve Zahn is awesome in this movie lol "yeah yeah I wanna see ya man alright ya, hey why don't you bring that pot you just bought what? Yeah Fuck you man" Does anyone know what the song is playing before suz enters the scene?
wow right on like 2000+ people watched this movie (well at least the opening) sorry if you were lookin for the 1984 movie or that green day song jesus of suburbia. Anyways ya like people all over the world have checked this movie out like bulgaria eygpt japan chile mexico canada usa. Glad people all over get a chance to check the movie out for the first time or get a chance to see it again. I know its one of those movies (like a song) you see it once in 10 years and cant find it again.

I live in a metropolis while my family who ran out of here kicking and screaming moved to the suburbs. The opening sequence to this movie made me feel so bad for them.

not even a punk movie although i liked they had N.W.O by MINISTRY
Oi325 2 years ago
I can't believe they did a remake of this movie. The original was a classic, and, how could you make a punk movie in the 90's anyway. There weren't any punks left in the 90's!

suburbia from the 80s and subUrbia from the 90s are 100% different films -- this one that has been uploaded was originally a play written by Eric Bogosian that then became a movie.
you can access wikipedia and imdb, like the rest of the free world, can't you?
